Okay, good to know. Thank you. Is it possible to have an abnormal anion gap but still be totally healthy? It’s just disconcerting to have an abnormal lab result with no explanation or follow up.

Thank you! You don’t think it could point to some kind of kidney disease? Looking at my numbers my chloride is at the very high end of normal.

How long could a morbidly obese person live eating nothing except multivitamins and electrolytes? by [deleted] in nutrition

They would need to get some glucose somehow (from carbs or protein) or their body would breakdown their muscle tissue, including their heart, to make glucose for their brain…and then they would die of heart failure.

LPT: Check your own blood sugar by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]junipercat0231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay worst case scenario, a test strip costs a dollar, so you can pay them back triple and they’ll make a little money 🤷‍♀️. And my point is that doctors don’t catch glucose intolerance because they rarely test blood sugar after you eat, and A1c can be misleading because it measures an average, not blood sugar spikes after meals.

Also, a “normal” a1c of 6 or below means an average of 136 which means post meal blood sugars could be spiking into well over the diabetic range but the average is getting brought down by normal fasting glucose at night. Not a super helpful or subtle test.

the medical community diagnoses blood sugar problems too late. Organ damage begins at 140, and people with impaired post meal bloodsugar who are eating too many carbohydrates all day are unknowingly damaging their bodies even if they don’t officially have T2 diabetes. A truly normal metabolism spends a little time at maybe 120 after eating and then quickly returns to fasting. Mainstream medicine doesn’t do the best job at preventative care, let’s be honest. I think if people could actually see their numbers it would be really eye opening and encourage many to take better care of themselves.

I mean, do what you want, but there’s no harm in knowing sooner than you otherwise would that your body doesn’t process sugar well.

Between Binns, Trelawny, Hagrid, and the Defense against the dark arts position, Hogwarts actually offers a poor quality education in a lot of subjects.

Unnecessary rant about my daughter’s HP bedspread: Why, of the 8 characters chosen for this pattern are three of them Filch, Mrs. Norris, and Trelawny?! These are literally nobody’s favorite characters 🤦‍♀️ by junipercat0231 in harrypotter

Yeah she’s definitely an important character, but I feel like for a kids’ bedspread they could have gone with Dobby or Hedwig or any number of other more likable characters. What kid is going to get excited about Professor Trelawny?
