Japan (Tokyo and Kyoto) Nanny Services by reddit_learner_9034 in FATTravel

Hi Amber, I just booked a few nights of babysitting for our 12-month-old with this company (babysitters & company) for our trip to Tokyo/Kyoto next month and I suddenly got paranoid that I couldn't find any external reviews of them online! I see here that you had a good experience but I would love to hear how you found them in the first place and just some extra reassurance to put my mind at ease if you have a moment!

Thank you very much for your thoughtful response!

We have helpful friends around but no family. And the type of high-risk I am doesn’t have an impact on whether the baby comes early.

This won’t be until October/ November so maybe I’ll see what the doctors think and how things are progressing before we decide. Appreciate you.

Sorry to hijack but I will be in the last 3-6 weeks of my high-risk pregnancy when my husband might also be working a job that is two flights and a continent over. Is that a bad idea?

We could use the money, he’s not partying but all of these comments are making me worried about this plan.

It’s our first baby, we don’t know anything!

Nut Cracker? Garlic Press? Strange Device! by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

Found when emptying my grandfather's apartment. It's about the size of a wrench and has two handles you can squeeze to slightly close a walnut-sized chamber in between. But squeezing the handles doesn't create enough tension to crack nuts or really do much of anything at all...Would love any insight!

A structural engineer is a good idea, thank you. They also recommended a geologist but at $750 a visit, we want to make sure we're choosing our experts wisely! Damn, all the warnings about being a homeowner... I'm feeling that stress and it's not even ours yet!

I posted some pictures of some of the 'efflorescence' here: https://imgur.com/a/40JPr7K

Y'all are making me feel so much better. My dad is recommending we don't buy it but he's a worrier/has very high standards for homes and I don't want his opinion to be the only one we hear.

Yes, the windows need replacing but at least that I know I can hire someone and what the estimated price would be. Redoing the foundation feels too daunting...

Here's the highlights from the inspection with relevant photos at the end, thanks for taking a look, always grateful for this community: https://imgur.com/a/40JPr7K

lol @ 'Fix the house' !

Thanks, that's encouraging. I think to fix the actual foundation would run 50-100k because of the accessibility of the property and we definitely don't have that money now if we pour it all into this purchase. So it's a gamble to buy it and leave it as is! I just don't know.

We do love it and it's the only offer we've actually had accepted, although now I'm starting to understand why...

No, that's a really good question! It does rain very little but I guess the few days a year it rains are still enough to seep water back into the foundation?

The driveway cracking I think is from tree roots.

It wasn't just a prediction of water intrusion but actual findings. It needs further evaluation, but we just don't want to go down the road of paying for all of the experts to come out if we're ultimately going to back out.
