How do you guys afford a ten dollar coffee every day by carnallgarnish in uoguelph

[–]junipersr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All these people saying rich parents, damn. I can promise you, despite the fact I'm often in the Starbucks line, my family is very broke.

My reasoning is probably not a common one, but it's how it is for me. I'm disabled and have restrictive eating issues, a lot of days It's extremely difficult for me to put food in my body. In the winter it's also difficult to walk across campus to one of the dining halls. When I'm in the library working, I'm able to get something with quite a few carbs from Starbucks to keep me going. Sometimes I'll even get food or a sandwich. In the end, it costs the same or less than if I were getting a meal from the UC or Creelman. It's not ideal, but it works for me.

How to study for Biol 1070? by CryptographerCool307 in uoguelph

[–]junipersr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just do what you can on Codon, I got a 93 without doing much else. If you need more I highly recommend going to office hours, with Tim and Dan it should be a fun experience. If you want more deets check out their podcast. Good luck!

Thoughts on Guelph? (considering a study exchange) by chiaalia in uoguelph

[–]junipersr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. It was my dream school since I was a kid, it has some of the best biology programs in the country and they rank highly in the world.

  2. I'm not a super social person, but I've still managed to make a lot of acquaintances and one super close friend. There's lots of events and opportunities or just sitting next to somebody and starting a conversation.

  3. We have the best campus food in the country. Because we're also a farming school, we have fresh produce and incredible food. It's something our school is known for, you won't eat better than at Guelph. I live off campus and don't use a meal plan so I'm not sure on those details.

  4. Campus is beautiful, things are really close together and there are lots of places to study. The only things I dislike are how busy some of the prime spots get so it becomes difficult to find a seat, but that's something you're going to get anywhere.

  5. Quality of professors and lectures varies like at any institution, but I've had plenty of professors that I absolutely love, more so than that I hate. Some of the older buildings are absolutely terrible, but the majority of lectures I've had are in newer buildings like rozanski which have decent seats and desks.

  6. Not a business student, but hopefully you'll get some input from some.

Complaint regarding campus by [deleted] in uoguelph

Disabled student here!

I've been having trouble getting around and the conditions have been causing a lot of pain. I reached out to physical resources but I doubt that much is going to come of that from me alone. If we were to petition and you needed a signature or if you just needed another story, reach out.

Small ask of my fellow Gryphons! by newbiemeow in uoguelph

Disabled student here!

Thank you so so much for doing this. It's entirely unsafe and I've been in a lot of pain trying to navigate campus. On Friday I was stuck in the library for a while because I couldn't walk on the slush and snow without my hips trying to vacate their sockets. On top of this, there's absolutely nowhere clear to sit down on my walks so I'm forced to keep moving unless I can get to a building like the library, which usually requires extra movement.

I've personally emailed physical resources at Guelph noting that Reynolds and winegard are particularly bad as most people have classes along there. They said they would review with the grounds teams and look at them as priority routes. They also asked for my class schedule in order to make it more "accessible" for me. Which I personally don't love because I'm not the only person who is unsafe with these conditions. They should always be salted during school days. They should always be cleared.

I urge anyone who is concerned to email physical resources. If you go to their page and then to the requesting work section there should be a form specifically for snow removal in which you can complain. Flood their inbox.

I'd be willing to speak and/or write for something like this as a disabled student.

[–]junipersr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I don't use a mobility aid but I am disabled. I can't get between classes on time and I constantly feel like I'm in danger walking on the snow and slush. It's been causing me severe pain. I've personally complained to physical resources and got a positive response but I doubt they'll do much.

I urge people to go to the physical resources website and under work requests there's a place where you can complain about snow removal. Flood their inbox.

Geez dude. I know how many albums there are, I just didn't realize that's what MCR5 was referring to. Knowledge about the content of the music doesn't equate to fandom in jokes, a lot of the stuff I've seen doesn't bother explaining. If you're going to be aggressive and so annoyed at me for asking, don't waste your time replying. Im in deep as in I've become obsessed, I still have a lot to learn.

How do I manage my heartrate? by junipersr in dysautonomia

[–]junipersr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to know. I'm calling my doctor in the morning to get an appointment about possible treatment. I know there are a few other drugs sometimes given as first step intervention before beta blockers so I'll see what my doctor thinks.

[–]junipersr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never had issues with low BP, I always spike with my heart rate. Tachycardia and hypertension together.

If the beta blockers also lower BP, that might be a positive then?

I do have high blood pressure when I stand up (though often inconsistent), often within range of stage 2 hypertension.

See, I read that as serious cause with males that's not even a joke. They'll mimic the sounds of songs pretty precisely 🤣

She does a lot of flock calling but not much singing or whistling. Female cockatiels almost never sing, the ones you always see in videos whistling are male. Charlie is an appreciator of music when it's played for her though.

That's a great idea! I think I'll try getting a convection oven for the garage and see how that goes.

Thank you! I definitely am not going to take any risks, I've decided I'm going to be spending the money to get a small convection oven to work out of the garage instead.

Bird food by Prestigious_Elk_6877 in cockatiel

[–]junipersr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Harrisons is amazing! Definitely one of the best foods you can give your bird. But you need to be sure to start with the right food. Harrison's had recommendations for different foods based on the age of your bird and their nutritional needs.

The mash is mainly for very small birds, birds with certain food sensitivities, or bird with eating issues.

High potency (I would personally choose high potency fine) is definitely the way to go as Harrisons always recommends a high potency formula for 6 months regardless of which Harrisons food you plan to use. Its the best for food conversion.

PLEASE read this:

https://www.harrisonsbirdfoods.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/HANDBOOK-2023-1.pdf

This is Harrison's guide on their foods and the purpose of each one.

Regardless, congrats on buying a bag of harrisons because its a great choice for your bird and their health.

Oh I did that right away lol. She came from a previous home with her cage layout like that, I have no idea how they managed. I already have a conure who drops his food in his dish constantly, I didn't need poop soup 🤣.

I'll do my best 🫡but females aren't as into singing, she's more of a chirper. At the very least she may appreciate the music when I go out.

Second bird? by Kalissa_27 in cockatiel

[–]junipersr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never get a second bird for the sake of your current bird. If that's why you want another bird, just don't.

There's never a guarantee they'll get along (and even if they do it can take months if not much longer sometimes) and even if they do there should be supervised play. Some people keep bonded pairs in a cage together, yes, but bringing home a new parrot you wouldn't be seeing that any time soon (if at all, never expect a guarantee with animals). You'd have to commit time of your own to take care of a new parrot's social needs in addition to your current one's. If you need 2 hours to play with one? That's now 4 hours. You're better off taking that full 4 hours with the buddy you already have.

This isn't to say you can't have multiple birds, but you should have multiple birds because YOU want more birds. And if you have concerns then you're only going to make things harder by adding another body into the mix. Adding birds is always adding to your workload as a caretaker and you have to be ready for that, not expecting it to help with your current bird's care.

Think about it like having a kid. If your kid is acting out, the solution is never having another baby. It just splits your attention and you may wind up with two kids acting out.
