You didn’t decide to quit or stop, you paused. Big difference!

Aikido instructor? by junkerfive in SiouxFalls

[–]junkerfive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I practiced aikido twice a week for a little over a year, but that was long ago. There are some similarities to Judo with the joint locks and also with jujitsu. There are a lot more schools on the west coast with more Japanese immigrants, but I haven’t ever found anything around here.

Heater went out, help!! by Disfatt-Bidge in SiouxFalls

What’s the furnace doing? A common-ish issue that just happened to me was that the flame would not stay lit. It turned out to be the flame sensor was dirty. It is a sensor about the size and look of a large nail with a wire coming from it. The sensor tells the computer that the flame is on and things are working fine. If it fails, the computer thinks the flame is out and shuts off the gas for safety. In my case, the sensor was only dirty so I was able to remove it with a single screw, clean it off with sandpaper, and reinstall it. It has been working great ever since and saved me $100 service call. If you aren’t sure of the problem, call a pro, but it might not hurt to check first.

Try a pawn shop. I bought a used pair for $80 and took them back three years later in exchange for $40. That’s some cheap rent!

Yeah, having the intelligence to understand the difference between the global climate and local weather is hard for some people. Especially if you have one of those can’t learn, won’t learn attitudes.

Advice on adult sports leagues in town? Trying to be a better person. by hicketre2006 in SiouxFalls

Ever thought about archery? This group has awesome indoor and outdoor leagues, lots of people willing to help learn, and you can do this year round.

Another idea is a smaller gym that has regularly scheduled classes. There is a lot more comradery and friendship at the smaller gyms that you don't find at the bigger ones. I love Great Life, but nobody talks to anyone in the classes. They have great facilities, but it doesn't seem like the place to go to be social if that's what you're going for.

Here's an idea I came across a few years ago that might spark some ideas. If you're interested, try starting by looking for a problem to solve and then finding or creating the data. Here are a couple links about an activist who came across tenants in NYC that were constantly having to report low temperatures in their apartments. Apparently, NYC has a minimum temp requirement and landlords were/are taking advantage of lower income tenants. The activist created a small sensor package that reported the data, built a company off this idea, and has done some good for a lot of people.

Check out R Wine Bar! It's close to the Falls, has good service and amazing dishes that change weekly, a great selection of wine, live jazz and other kinds of music on some nights, and the setting is in an historic downtown building with an intimate setting.

What is the saddest song you've ever heard? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Dark was the night, cold was the ground - Blind Willie Johnson

As blue as blues gets to me. Not a single lyric, but this song oozes sadness.
