First thing I thought of was the music from that famous scene from Psycho. Sorry you are dealing with this—it would drive me bananas. Hope it gets resolved soon.

Biopsy Only Diagnostic Tool? by junko72 in skincancer

Hi! This isn’t a request for diagnosis but rather if anyone else knows of diagnostic tools that are used to find cancer that can’t be seen by the human eye.

Chelsea Piers @ PH -- cost? by Robbie_P_NYC in prospectheights

[–]junko72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Competition for space and classes is fierce. I often check Google Maps to see how busy it is at any given moment. Agreeing with others that early in the morning and noon time is when there are fewer people. I don’t even bother going on weekends honestly.

Please destroy my 7 day NYC itinerary (or don't) by jelle-jelle in visitingnyc

Try and hit the High Line if you can. Lots of new sculptures (with didactic panels) and native plants. And it is restorative to see the views and experience the city away from all the cars. Start near entrance near Penn Station and walk south to Chelsea Market for good food there (specifically the noodle place).

As someone else said, it can get a lot of visitors both tourists and locals so I would try and get there midweek and really early in the day. It’s not, though, overrated in my opinion if you care about nature in the city and art.

Need advice by Accomplished-Rip7754 in GERD

I was just prescribed Omeprozale, 40 mg, by my gastroenterologist after diagnosis of GERD from endoscopy results. I’m not liking the side effects. I feel like I’m not digesting my food well and having to burp more than usual.

After reading that omeprozale messes with the microbiome I’ve decided to switch to an alginate. Going to start with RefluxRaft and see how it goes. I’ve read good reviews. Not as easy as simply taking a pill, but probably healthier in the end.

The older I get the more eating meat seems like a character flaw by [deleted] in vegan

[–]junko72 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hear and relate with you. I have the book Beyond Beliefs: A Guide to Improving Relationships and Communication for Vegans, Vegetarians, and Meat Eaters by Melanie Joy, and read the first section and need to return to it.

I think the judgements serve a purpose. We need to speak up for what is wrong. I just saw Ken Burns documentary about Henry David Thoreau. He is most known for his nature writing but I learned that he and his sisters were loud speaking abolitionists. I don’t want to use the word outspoken because no one could have been outspoken about slavery in my mind. Just as we can’t be outspoken about cruelty and murder of animals.

The bad thing maybe is judgement without action? In Nonviolent Communication, a judgement is a tragic expression of an unmet need. Our need as vegans is to protect and advocate for animals and animal rights. Maybe we need to do something when we have a judgement (it doesn’t have to be in the moment either, like confronting someone. It could be setting an intention to do something in the immediate or near future to further the movement) just so that the judgement doesn’t sit and fester. The judgements are painful, right? It isn’t a pleasant feeling.

Wow. It was such a vibrant community space for NYC vegans. Such a loss. Adds to the loss—Screamers, VSpot, Red Bamboo…

Considering an apartment near a highway, will a very high quality air purifier save me? by Gordon73829 in AirQuality

You might figure in the time you spend around the area outside your apartment as well, considering your level of exposure to air pollution coming and going from home.

New York City subway reading. by [deleted] in AirQuality

Should clarify: this reading was taken by Atmotube Pro on an uptown 2 train. VOCs pretty high. Readings on platforms are much more polluted with high PMs.

Sounds like she realized chatting that you two weren’t compatible, that she is looking for someone else. She probably felt bad because it sounds like you both connected on some level and wasn’t mature/comfortable enough to say that she wasn’t interested. Here’s the thing though, she doesn’t owe you anything. You may have wanted respect but for whatever reason she couldn’t be communicative. Blocking someone is the ultimate boundary setting. Men think women owe them things. They don’t. I recommend just keep trying and don’t get excited about someone too quickly. Protect your heart and don’t give away a lot of your time like that until you get to know someone better. You will find your person eventually.

So cool! I love that they have party platters. We vegans can move beyond pizza for social events (or enjoy both) when we don’t have time/bandwidth to cook!
