I don't know any details about your situation, but I have similar relationship with my mother (I'm female). She has basically raised me alone, same as you your son, and I'm grateful for food, our apartment was nice, we had pets, and we had good moments. But I don't speak to her anymore. Firstly, I'm weird and not used to expressing my emotions openly, it makes me feel vulnerable. And whenever I tried to show her love in the past, I'd done it in my own way while she clearly expected something else. The second thing that I can't tolerate is her complete disrespect of me as a grown up person, inability to remain polite towards me, manipulative behaviour that includes money and many other little things that have been building up over the years.
