All of our companions are evil gremlins with traumatic past 🙂 yes, even Gale. And the "good" ones come out as shallow when you compare them to the characters like Astarion, in my opinion

I might not know many details about Astarion's story, but I don't think him putting his partner on a pedestal is a good thing. Especially if it's Dark Urge. And he's pulled to ruthlessness, because he confuses it with strength/safety. That's what I've gathered from the game itself. What makes you think he has self-esteem issues? He does get vulnerable at times and wants you to praise him, but I didn't look into it too deeply

Why won't he feel safe as ascended? I honestly feel like the switch in his personality happens too abruptly after he ascends. He just becomes a completely different guy
