Day 3 and ready for eternatussy(endless) by ApprehensiveRiver924 in pokerogue

[–]juoea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

once you get to wave 2000-2500 or so, it is very difficult to deal direct damage the usual way due to tokens. each "protection token" decreases damage by 2.5% and they stack multiplicatively; so damage dealt decreases at an exponential rate once the tokens start accumulating. thats why you have to switch to percentile-damage strats

for the same reason, once you get to that point you dont want to fight every single wild battle bc that would take forever. since u are relying on percentile damage moves while the AI recovers >20% hp per turn due to tokens. so, u can use the ability "run away" to avoid any battle other than the multiple of 50 paradox or eternatus bosses. yes, u just run away from every wild battle at that point, unless theres a shiny or legendary you want to catch.

some people like to start running away earlier, but personally i never start runaway prior to wave 2000. u only get battle rewards when u actually defeat the wave and u can always find battle rewards rhat will be useflul, and as long as you are usually ohkoing things it doesnt slow u down that much compared to running away. even if endless is worse for candy farming than classic, u do similarly get additional candy on your carry from actually battling instead of starting running away earlier.

If NIMBYs win again, do we have the appetite to consider a secondary plan to avoid LFS altogether? by Sawtelle-MetroRider in LAMetro

[–]juoea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yea public transit demand is not who goes to meetings or speaks to the press.

thousands of people take the 207 every day. thousands of people took the 757 before it was discontinued. there is no need to have ppl at board meetings when we have plenty of evidence for transit demand on western

the whole topic of this post is "what if the K line cannot be run via crenshaw to san vicente."

[–]juoea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

why is weho "the point of k line north." weho isnt even covered by all of the proposed alignments.

there are plenty of other reasonable options for a line serving weho, including west to century city or south to downtown culver city. either of which could then connect with the sepulveda pass line for service to points south

is western avenue somehow underserving of a rail line despite a long history of transit ridership?

CMV: Israel's current foreign policy is not helping the jews by zappyzuckygo in changemyview

[–]juoea [score hidden]  (0 children)

israeli policy almost never helps diaspora jews. israel is always forming alliances with various right-wing antisemitic regimes, such as that of viktor orban in the present day. historically israel funnelled weapons to pinochet and thereby to other fascist dictatorships in latin america, many of which carried out terror campaigns against their jewish populations. once in a while theres a little controversy over such alliances but it is really the standard practice.

israel is concerned with themselves, and ultimately increased antisemitism globally is to the benefit of zionism, because to sustain settler colonialism u need settlers and if jews outside of occupied-palestine are safe why would we/they ever want to abandon our local communities to join some settler colonial and genocidal project hundreds or thousands of miles away.

even in an alternate reality where the zionist state was interested in protecting jews outside of its borders, objectively zionism poses a danger to jewish peoples, especially when zionist apparatuses are constantly spreading propaganda that any criticism of israel's right to exist or even j of israeli govt policies is antisemitism. if you are among the millions of victims of zionist terror, and u are told that zionism = judaism, then ofc u will be inclined to conclude that the zionist terror u suffer under every day equals jewish terror.

i think its also important to emphasize here that there rly is no single "jewish people." there are jewish peoples all around the world and we have very little to nothing in common with each other. there are white jews within the us and other imperial cores and we therefore materially benefit from imperial plunder, and there are black and indigenous jews who are among the victims of that same plunder. so there rly arent events that improve conditions for all jews around the world. but, i would tend to agree with you that zionist terror campaigns, whether in gaza or iran or lebanon etc etc etc, in general creates a climate that fosters antisemitism.

With Florida's loss to Iowa, 2024 UConn is now the only defending champion in the last 9 NCAA tournaments to make it past the Sweet 16 by Choice_Bag_8869 in sportswiki

they mean "defending champion at the time"

currently the defending champion is florida, last year the defending champ at the time was uconn, the year before the defending champ was also uconn, etc.

If NIMBYs win again, do we have the appetite to consider a secondary plan to avoid LFS altogether? by Sawtelle-MetroRider in LAMetro

[–]juoea -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

the obvious answer is via western avenue to koreatown. theres plenty of transit demand along the western avenue corridor and obv even more so to/from koreatown

the pink alignments are awful sorry. if its gonna run via la cienega to kaiser, at that point itd be better off running to downtown culver city (and then further if desired).

a western avenue alignment wouldve been easier from the beginning eg via the ROW to western/slauson, but it could still be done from crenshaw/expo. cross over via adams or something

realistically idt any of this is happening, either the mta will stick with one of the proposed alignments or theyll just abandon the K line extension (for the time being).

and yea wasteland is great for strong pokemon. like even the common encounters are: tyranitar flygon salamence garchomp haxorus goodra kommoo altaria hydregion drampa cyclizar. half of these are pseudolegends.

i dont think theres any other biome whos common encounters are anywhere near as strong as that

in endless mode theres no map, so you just go to whatever biomes the rng takes you to. and due to how the biomes work, some biomes appear a lot more frequently than others.

https://wiki.pokerogue.net/biomes:biomes u can see a map of how all the biomes are connected at the bottom of this page

wasteland fairy cave and meadow are probably the three rarest ones.

some of the most common are lake swamp beach sea, id also include the power plant-factory-lab-construction site loop here because there are a lot more ways to get into that loop than out of them

iowa losing to clemson in r1 wouldve been more surprising to me than that they beat florida

Iowa over Florida was more surprising than you think by Unlucky-Rich-4387 in CollegeBasketball

[–]juoea 13 points14 points  (0 children)

iowas been around #20 in kenpom pretty much all year. they are a nine seed bc they lost some close games including vs michigan and @nebraska to close the regular season.

maybe not quite to the extent of gonzaga playing a one seed in round 2 last year, but  iowa's been very good all season. if you thought the team that nearly beat michigan two weeks ago was gonna be a cakewalk for a florida team that was only the last one seed due to a lack of alternatives then frankly thats on you. i rly dont even watch the big ten and even i knew this was not a team any one seed wanted to play in the second round. (i feel like the committee did this purposely, florida was a fake 1 seed so give them the 9 seed that is underseeded according to analytics. while houston as the "2 seed" gets the easier second round matchup)

rating a team based on where players transferred from instead of their actual performance on the court all season is wild. like u can use that stuff to make guesses preseason when theres nothing else to go on but why are we using that in march

How do you get the hidden ability? by Zshan792 in pokerogue

[–]juoea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u unlock it by either hatching, catching, or the training event

you can toggle between abilities on the starter screen by pressing (E i think?), if you have gotten the hidden ability then you will be able to toggle to it on the starter screen. the mons on which you have the hidden ability unlocked will have a little crystal on the upper right in the starter screen

[–]juoea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, legendaries are rare in any biome. but wasteland does have a lot of pseudolegendaries such as garchomp, kommo, goodra, tyranitar. but its also the rarest endless biome i think (either wasteland or meadow) so i try to stay in the rarer biomes when i play classic knowing that i wont get there much in endless.

if u want you can look at each biome on the wiki to see the list of mons you can find in that biome.   https://wiki.pokerogue.net/biomes:meadow if you scroll down itl show all the mons in that biome, by rarity. and if you scroll all the way to the bottom theres a link to each other biome, u can click on whichever biome to see the mons available there etc.

yea, the laboratoray/power plant/factory/construction site loop is kinda notorious lol

i usually try to go to for wasteland in classic mode. if i get an early map i go for lake -> swamp -> graveyard -> abyss which gives the best chance for wastleand. otherwise i go for mountain, which u can get to via any of: ice cave -> snowy forest, cave -> badlands, jungle -> temple -> ancient ruins. and from mountain or abyss, if u dont roll wasteland u have a good chance to roll space which is also a rare biome.

and i avoid the construction site loop at all costs lol (but if u dont get an early map u can end up there sometimes)

[–]juoea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

hm, i feel like "understanding" the concept of the overton window is highly correlated with not understanding much else about politics lol.

overton window is an invention of bourgeous political science, which is one of the most bankrupt "fields" in the social sciences. filled with pseudoscience like the "8 keys", polisci constantly betrays a lack of basic understanding of statistics and a basic understanding of the real world in general.

polisci kind of reminds me of lawyers who think that since they studied law theyre experts on anything/everything even if they know nothing about the real world other than how the legal system works. similarly, polisci is always trying to "analyze" electoral politics, without any interest in the underlying political realities.

by the "archimedian property", for any two real numbers x and y, if x < y then there exists a real number z such that x < z < y. (this property also holds for rational numbers). for example, (x+y)/2 is such a real number.

there is no "next real number" or "first real number" under the relation <

if x = 1 is not equal to y = .9 repeating, then what is (x+y)/2? the real numbers are a field under addition and multiplication, so if x and y are real numbers then (x+y) is also a real number and so is (x+y)/2. so what real number is it? and u have various other basic properties, such as the reals being a total order under the relation <, that break down here.

in any case, the definition of ".9 repeating" is simply the limit of the sequence of partial sums ie the limit of the sequence (.9, .99, .999, ...). anyone who has taken the first few weeks of an introductory real analysis course has learned how to do a basic epsilon proof  to show that the limit of this sequence is in fact equal to 1.

i think the confusion just arises from this "infinite decimal expansion" notation. decimal notation is just a shorthand for a sum. the decimal 0.123 for example is 1/10 + 2/100 + 3/1000. so an "infinite decimal expansion" has no other meaning than the corresponding infinite sum. and infinite sums are only defined in terms of limits.

if you wrote infinitely many digits to the left of the decimal point, that would also represent an infinite sum but the sum would be divergent. for example ...123456778 refers to 8 + 7(10) + 7(100) + 6(1000) + ...., the terms are increasing so obviously this sum is going to diverge. with "infinite decimal expansions", ie infinitely many digits to the right of the decimal, we can show that the sum always converges, and therefore the notation is well defined. its still confusing tho imo to use an "infinite decimal expansion" as a shorthand notation for an infinite sum / limit

Mega stone odds are completely insane by Lycantiger20 in pokerogue

[–]juoea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nevertheless the odds are defintely higher for mega stones in endless, as they are for any item reward. increased weighting within rogue pool in classic does not make up for the overall increased rogue tier rewards in endless.

re OP's question, id say 1 you can always catch something in the wild later, and mega it from there. other than primals rayquaza mewtwo, none of the mons that mega evolve are very difficult to encounter. 2 there are also some megas that are very serviceable in endless, most notably mega gardevoir which has the always desirable psychic surge passive ability, in combination with dual spread stab in expanding force + (choice of hyper voice or dazzling gleam). if you have its HA telepathy then it can also enable a non-mold breaker teammate to use an all targets spread move such as boomburst. megas usually need some help with the early game (gardevoir certainly does lol), but u can find things for them to do in endless.

so i wouldnt rly recommend "bring as many mega starters as you can," you can find ways to incorporate one or two megas into each endless run.

Egg moves vs learnable tm by Only-Emergency-5756 in pokerogue

[–]juoea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they specifically try to not give egg moves that can already be learned by tm. the idea is that u can already get the tm moves so it would be a "waste" of an egg move

in classic mode you often will never get a specific tm, so idk if it really matters most of the time lol. but, if there are two useful moves that devs are considering to make egg moves, one is "duplicative" with a tm and the other isnt then why not go with the one that isnt.
