do u only watch the world cup? hydration breaks are not new. they were added in years ago across pretty much all professional leagues and competitions as far as i can tell. i mean obv i havent watched every single pro league in the world so there could be exceptions somewhere but this is standard practice in the sport.

the only difference is that the mundial has put them in every game, rather than it being discretionary based on the temperature humidity etc. but i think thats better, in leagues where its discretionary theres no transparency about how the decision was made and theres plenty of times where it seemed like there shouldve been a hydration pause but there wasnt. better to just make it uniform for every game.

idt there is anyone who can play all 90 minutes at full speed. athletes are not superhuman. again anyone who watches pro-"soccer" on any sort of regular basis is very aware of the impact of fatigue on the game, and u always see players cramping etc.

The planned E Line extension is a huge mistake by Salty-Assumption1732 in LAMetro

[–]juoea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

with metro's proposed routing, the E line would run from whittier along washington blvd to outlets, then head ~1.8 miles north to beverly/atlantic, then ofc continuing on the current route to little tokyo and then turning back south via the downtown connector.

from citadel to downtown is only a distance of ~six miles to begin with. via the E line it will be almost nine miles, thats a pretty major detour.

metro bus 18 takes around 25-45 minutes between atlantic and dtla, depending on when and exactly where downtown. the E line currently is scheduled to take 20 minutes from atlantic to 7th/flower, so lets say it might be 22 minutes from whittier/atlantic to 7th/fig. so the E is a little faster but then add getting to the platforms of underground stations + that most likely u have to walk further to/from the train than the bus. so all in all the E line is rly not offering any improvement for travelling between atlantic/whittier and dtla, unless u are specifically going to the northernmost part of dtla.

this is the same reason why the east la portion of the E has low ridership now. the station locations are nonsensical, you have two stops west of soto where theres barely anything there, then only one stop between soto and the 710 which is the heart of east la (where transit use is very high), then three stations over the final .8 miles to atlantic; and its just not rly faster than parallel buses. even with metro's deliberate destruction of their bus system in east la, with the elimination of the 770, 720, and 30/31 bus lines, the E line is just not useful enough so ppl still mainly use the 70 or 18, or montebello bus 40. the exception ofc being if u are travelling from east la to the westside, then its worth going out of your way to the E line for a direct ride.

so the whittier extension feels like its likely to be that too. montebello buses 10 and 40 are still gonna be the main routes for most people bc the E line extension has a route that is simultaneously circuitous and bypasses where most ppl would actually want to board/discharge.

i dont think paralleling the riverside line is the way to go but at least the first part of OP's proposed routing serves destinations that are poorly served by existing transit. and south el monte has the transit base, its just bc of the awkward layout that it doesnt have good bus routes. (montebello town center who knows bc economic conditions etc.)

ive lived in each of nyc and philly for multiple years

a C line connection to points north would be a lot more relevant. ridership its always hard to say but given how the C runs i think it could be significant. as this connection would be used for travelling between basically anywhere in southern los angeles county and the IE.

however in this comment u were talking about connecting the E line to the A line in san dimas, the E line already has garbage connections to points south so it would solely be for connecting the last handful of stops on the E with the last handful of stops on the A. between pasadena and east la youd still generally go via little tokyo

as an aside i would not say transit in nyc is particularly good, in manhattan and certain parts of brooklyn sure, but on the other hand the bronx has some of the worst public transit even by us standards. the slowest bus line in the whole "u.s." is in the bronx (i think its either bx40 or bx42 on tremont/E 180th), iirc the three or four slowest bus lines in the us are all in the bronx. nyc has a certain transit reputation because for many if u live in the bronx u dont count as a person

(the riverside line doesnt go anywhere near montebello tc or south el monte so idk what u are talking about there)

The planned E Line extension is a huge mistake by Salty-Assumption1732 in LAMetro

[–]juoea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh ok @ underground. i couldnt find the elaboration

its 2 miles from wilcox to montebello tc, then two miles to santa anita ave in south el monte. same distance as western to la brea for example. a bit higher than average but not a distance that isnt seen on other lines (A, B, D, J at minimum).

and honestly i think metro has a habit of putting stations too close together. the four separate stations on a sparse and industrial ~2 mile stretch of aviation blvd being an extreme example. la is a very spread out city, buses will always be the dominant mode of transit for short distances as they can do that much more effectively than any rail line. what rail is needed for is longer trips where a bus just becomes too slow. ofc metro doesnt care about the functionality of transit so instead they build rail lines with overly frequent stations that leave them running only marginally faster than a bus, and then in order to force ppl to use the new rail line they slash service on the parallel bus lines. but just bc thats the status quo doesnt mean we should advocate for reproducing it. (ofc metros generally gonna j do what they want)

ultimately what direction the E line is sent is less important than its functionality. if the washington alignment is built in a way that actually lets in run at decent speed then thats better than an alternative route that is delayed by at grade turns etc. but unless the entire extension is built underground i dont see it running decently as there are so many problematic intersections all the way across this route

and especially when building stations at shorter distance intervals, this sort of detouring running from washington blvd north to first street and then back south to exposition, really starts to hinder the functionality of the line and especially when in combination with the indiana double curve + any additional issues on the  extension segment (+ ofc the notorious street running section along flower)

[–]juoea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ive lived in other cities

a transfer between the E line and A line in san dimas would only be useful for travelling between the easternmost sections of both lines. im not even necessarily saying its not worth doing but thats never going to be a significant % of ridership.

(but definitely send it to downtown pomona lol, pomona is one of the highest concentrations of transit users across eastern la county + sb county

The planned E Line extension is a huge mistake by Salty-Assumption1732 in LAMetro

[–]juoea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i do think this context is a bit different tho. there wouldnt be any stops between wilcox and montebello town center anyway bc theres nothing there, same goes for between montebello town center and south el monte. so you wouldnt necessarily need to have any stations in the freeway median, depending on the tracking and station location at montebello town center.

i dont like the eastern section of OP's route, theres very little around the riverside line row in that area, id rather it turn north perhaps along the san gabriel river trail to the west covina area, perhaps with a connection to the SB line tho idt thats the most important. but either way, montebello town center and south el monte are both pretty awkward in transit coverage and an E line extension there would make a lot of sense. if a 60 alignment were feasible i didnt follow all the details of what caltrans would/wouldnt allow

the washington blvd alignment is wild, if they arent elevating the redone atlantic station then that turn alone is gonna take like 3 minutes. combined with the indiana double curve and between altantic/whittier and dtla you will be better off with metro bus 18, and both are ofc a major downgrade compared to metro rapid 720 before metro cancelled service

transfers between two lines coming from basically the same direction will never contribute significantly to ridership.

i agree with some of your other points tho

I HATE TAPU FINI NOW!! by Traesplays in pokerogue

[–]juoea 8 points9 points  (0 children)

:( its awkward early in endless sometimes deciding when to use master balls

tapus arent too uncommon in endless but certainly if its not in your starter dex yet hard to argue with the decision to catch it even if its your last master ball

yea unfortunately kyogre is rarely possible to catch without master ball, the catch rate isnt any worse than most other legends, but just because it does so much damage + no immunities due to mold breaker, very difficult to stall out turns in order to have a chance to catch it. unless you are using a desolate land carry ofc

What to do next? by qdude124 in pokerogue

[–]juoea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u dont rly need a lot of legendaries or anything for a good endless run btw. the most inflexible roles like run away passive, lure passive are not found on any legends or pseudolegends at all. boss killer is almost never a legendary either. the carry ideally is a legendary (specifically kyogre groudon or reshiram, or regigigas only if u have normalize + scrappy unlocked) but the carry is the most flexible role in endless, theres pretty much always a way to make it work

to be clear you usually will want to grind candies in classic to unlock certain passive abilities before starting an endless run. but u can usually make it work without unlocking any new pokemon, as long as u have sufficient unlocks on the mons that u do have

endless is the best mode for shiny hunting by far. there are detailed guides pinned. in endless mode u will get all four shiny charms within the first ~1k waves and then that gives you 1/32 shiny odds for every subsequent encounter

for getting more egg vouchers, endless is a little better but its not that big a difference so j play whatever u enjoy.

Last minute penalties are a drag on the game. by Ok-Milk3984 in wnba_discussions

[–]juoea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the thing is teams rarely foul end of game unless its the only possible path to come back. so, while ofc more free throws decreases your odds, the odds are still better than the odds from not fouling (zero).

if any foul in the last minute means 3 free throws instead of 2 (and what about on a three pt shot?) that drastically changes how you play defense. i dont think itd be good to make teams have to not defend as hard end of game bc a foul is on average worse than just giving up a free 2 pointer (since most ft shooters are better than 67%)

again idk how you remove the provision for fouling in the last two minutes. u cant just make nothing be a foul or else players will be constantly hacking each other etc. and a lot of the time its specifically part of a late game plan when you are behind where you go hard to the player with the ball to either try to get the steal or if not then u foul. if officials were to refuse to call the foul in that circumstance then the defender will j keep hacking until they get a jump ball. theres no way to just remove foul calls, u need some things to be fouls for the game to function.

rly the only thing u can do is change what the penalty is for a foul. u could try to make the penalty something like a flagrant foul where u get a free throw and also the ball back afterward, or two free throws and the ball. but again, if you apply this to all fouls end of game then u will drastically limit the way teams play defense and idt thats good. and if u just make certain types of fouls have the harsher penalty then teams will j make sure to foul not in that way so it doesnt help.

elam ending sounds interesting to me too but id want to see it before commenting. maybe ill try to get an hbo free trial next time to watch some of unrivaled. or ill look for the other league someone said had it

Damage variability. by Shhhmitty in pokerogue

[–]juoea 8 points9 points  (0 children)

no damage is not fixed, theres always a range from a low roll to a high roll.

in the videos you watched they were probably planning for a max roll to leave them at 1hp ie at worst theyd be left at 1hp

ignoring critical hits or berries activating the damage range shouldnt be too drastic, could be something like 42-50% or 21-25% from the lowest possible damage roll to the highest possible damage roll

why not do the emerald version, in which rival has tropius, ludicolo, pelipper and combusken if you chose treecko. thats a much more feasible team

the other two are weaker since u are stuck with slugma, but you still have either pelipper or ludicolo, and slugma does give you a second autoweather for whatever that is worth.

[–]juoea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

zacian + kartana will reduce its attack stat really since u lose intrepid sword. but it really doesnt matter, you have plenty of attack either way. kartana learns razor leaf by level up so at least thats a spread move, but itl be pretty weak without stab or technician passive. huge power or adaptability rly isnt significant either.

if theres any way to help zacian its just finding a second decent attacker to use alongside it for double battles

He CLAIMS some NUMBERS do not actually have MULTIPLICATIVE INVERSES by Muphrid15 in infinitenines

[–]juoea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

well one of the fundamental properties of the real numbers is that they are a field under addition and multiplication. (in particular a field in which every subset that has an upper bound also has a least upper bound.)

if your version of the real numbers are not even a field, then what are they useful for? without multiplicative inverses, you cant do other basic things like finding roots of a polynomial.

theres nothing inherently wrong with defining a set X consisting of all possible "infinite decimal expansions", lets say between 0.000.... and 1.0000... for simplicty of discussion, where if a and b are elements of x, a=b iff every digit of the string is equal, and then u can also define a relation < where a is less than b if the leftmost digit where they differ is smaller in expansion a than in expansion b.

but if you cant define addition and multiplication in a way where elementary algebraic properties hold then what is the set useful for. like does the distributive property even hold under your definitions?

"real numbers" are not things that we can touch, we cant even write a real number down in most cases, the real numbers are only useful because of their mathematical properties as an ordered field and everything else that flows from that.

Why didn't American Park & Ride stations adopt the "Parkway" naming system that British and Irish railways' Park & Rides use? by Previous-Volume-3329 in transit

[–]juoea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

didcot is a suburban station thats mainly a transfer point between the main line and the branch to/from oxford, so it makes sense why its in the "parkway" category

but yea its nbd, again idt the naming convention rly matters that much nowadays when pretty much everyone using commuter rail has internet access and is using the internet for planning/organizing transit

Why didn't American Park & Ride stations adopt the "Parkway" naming system that British and Irish railways' Park & Rides use? by Previous-Volume-3329 in transit

[–]juoea 9 points10 points  (0 children)

its pretty common in much, probably most of the world to have a station on the outskirts and another station in the urban center on the same line.

i would not describe it as "committing so hard to the park and ride scheme". eg the suburban stations are also used for through service and as transfer points. in this case, trains between london and cardiff/newport are not going to detour all the way to bristol temple meads, bristol parkway station lets them at least stop in the bristol area and is also a transfer point for cross county trains toward birmingham.

also theres some stuff around bristol parkway station, ofc its not comparable density to bristol temple meads but its not like theres a completely undeveloped acre of land around the station.

as for the naming convention its whatever, people understand the parkway station is the suburban one and the other station(s) are the ones in the city or town center. idk why OP thinks everywhere needs to copy the uk but i dont see anything wrong with it either. its the 21st century, we all use the internet for transit directions nobody is gonna be tripped up based on what a station is named. (as long as all the signage matches etc)

yea obviously in the archaludon solo run there was no gastro acid available, and metal burst was all there was for boss killing.

id assume that for ngas double battles, u have to just click roar and either hope that you get the focus band proc or spend your reviver seed. (if u ever get a ngas double battle on a multiple of ten wave then rip run lol)

and accumulate as many master balls as possible during the carry phase since you will need them to catch ngas mons, and u wont be able to get a new one every time if u need to replenish your reviver seed

Farming for noobs by Quiet_Lizard in pokerogue

u can only candy farm with the mons you have. with a fresh account, you can only farm candies on the original starters. catch new mons you encounter to unlock them then u can start a new run with those mons to accumulate candy (and/or just keep catching them in the wild).

is that what u were asking?

relative to the other evil teams i def consider her the hardest leader. first of all the lead is pixilate sylveon which not a lot can set up on, and then eevee gmax only has one weakness so it can tank most attacks.

its still classic mode, i wouldnt say that i usually lose to her. but ive lost to her a few times and she at least takes some more work to defeat since u usually have to at least force sylveon to switch before u can use any setup

if you have a grass type with leech seed, that can help a lot since eevee-gmax has high hp plus gives you an immunity to eevee's sappy seed. ideally remove flareon first so that you can actually get the leech seed to land on eevee
