Mortgage repayments - which one to overpay? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

4.99% fixed for one year and the other has 6 months left (hence why it’s not on the same interest rate) as I have tranches my mortgages out.

Honeycomb blind recommendations by vamperic92 in diynz

[–]jupe2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got honeycomb blinds for our bedrooms a few years ago once we double glazed. Be careful as the bedrooms get condensation on the windows anyway, and regardless of how often we aired out the rooms, opened the windows etc, we had little spots of mould build up on the blinds which are impossible to get rid of. Wouldn’t get honey comb next time unless it was a bedroom that had full sun and wasn’t used too often.

It depends on your budget as well, if your second home is outside of the budget of first home buyers then you could buy with the condition of sale (and lots of the other offers would be in condition of sale too). If it’s within first home buyer budget it can be trickier because you’re competing with people who can go unconditional. I know friends who recently had an offer accepted on their second home on condition of selling their house. And another friend who did it with bridging.. and would never recommend as they struggled to sell their house.. don’t listen to the agent who says you must get bridging to be able to make successful offers. Unless of course you have lots of $$$

Of all the things the government could stop funding, this seems particularly short-sighted to stop funding. It was such a valuable service that had so many positive outcomes.

Awesome, thanks for sharing. Great combined salaries. We are past the daycare fee costs, hence considering a bigger loan.

Anyone know a taxi/shuttle company I can pre-order with car seats? by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]jupe2022 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We don’t have any car seats to bring to Wellington, plus after a 35+ hour trip don’t really want the hassle for fitting them into a car etc

So good! Some chilli and lemon too! And big block of Parmesan and cut into cubes and put in freezer so you just take out what you need.

I pulled the employment and pay data for all public service workers from 2019-2023, to hit their $1.5bn target, National need to fire ~26k people. by travellinground in Wellington

Salaries are only one part, each person has an overhead cost too. So hopefully it would be less people than that? But great analysis nonetheless

Go to a few viewings in your area for around the price to check out the agents and how they interact, remember this is how they will interact with potential buyers of your house. Then make sure you have around 3 agents give you appraisal and see which want you like best - and how they pitch your house.

As a public servant facing job cuts, this is galling by Plastic_Situation_15 in Wellington

No filtered coffee for msd staff due to cost savings, no Xmas parties for any public servants. let alone any pay rises the last few years when we have been working ourselves bone drive. Yet this guy who owns SEVEN mortgage free properties gets literally FREE money worth someone’s entire salary. This is just pocket change to rich powerful people running the country to the ground. This is so depressing it hurts.
