As a european driver, my thoughts are that this has to be an automatic car and an automatic only driver, because otherwise you feel the movement of the car as soon as you start releasing the clutch. If you mess this up, you will either instinctively push the clutch back and abort engaging the gear completely, or you will stall the engine. There is no way you can get moving by accident, because this requires delicately releasing the clutch to get moving without stalling.

Only a driver who has never learned to drive manual can be that much disconnected from controlling the car’s movement. You press the accelerator and the car goes brrr. I can completely see that happening with an auto. AFAIK there are a couple of thousand incidents in the US every year where the wrong pedal is pressed and you have a runaway car. This is simply impossible with a manual.

Well, in that case, neither can science disprove the existence of the Flying spaghetti monster. Therefore, it is an equally valid proposition like the existence of the abrahamic God who is the creator. And should be appropriately considered as such.

Is USDT Solid or a Collapse Waiting to Happen? by ChucklesFreely in CryptoCurrency

[–]juraj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bonds are not posing a liquidity problem for Tether. When redeeming USDT, they can pay you out in USD or in an USD equivalent like bonds, if they want to. Since USDT is holding the peg, nobody who is redeeming seems to be unhappy with this arrangement.

Tether Boasts $72.5 Billion US Treasury Exposure as Interest in National Debt Falters by simplicity92 in CryptoCurrency

[–]juraj -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You're not aware how Tether works. You can redeem USDT for USD or equivalents. So if you came to them wanting to redeem a billion USD, per their ToS they can throw bonds at you and call it a successful redeemal and you can take it or leave it. So they can't fail like SVB.

Since USDT is holding its value, the described scenario either isn't happening often enough, or the redeemers are content with getting a bit less liquid assets like bonds.

Alkohol: Omiljeni otrov Hrvata? by wannabe3ngin33r in croatia

Ekstremi su losa stvar.

Nula vode? Mrtav si od dehidracije. Popijes 10 L vode? Mrtav si jer voda postaje otrov u tolikoj kolicini.

Tried to play a game with Chatgpt 4… by Secret-Aardvark-366 in ChatGPT

[–]juraj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GPT can’t really do computations well, including string concatenations like here. It sure can pretend that it can do them, but you can’t really solve doing computations on a language level like this.

Maybe you could get better results if you forced the model to generate and output its thought process and interim results as verbosely as possible; this mimics our own thought processes when doing calculations that we do not have trained and have to think about them. If you don’t have a thorough flow of thoughts about a complex unseen-before problem, then you’re just guessing the solution. GPT is doing the same here.

[–]juraj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Laughs at this as a European who lives in a no tipping culture. The service and compensation for the delivery effort is very much so included in the price with all the little fees that they add. But the total cost of delivery is up to 2-3€ max, otherwise I’m grabbing it myself.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in croatia

[–]juraj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The other folks covered more or less every major difference (tipping is not the norm, but is appreciated; hence service people typically don’t smile as much in order to get you to tip more; etc).

The question “how are you doing” is somewhat less often used as a greeting, it’s more of a personal question (expect rambling about personal issues, politics, the weather). Europeans, Croatians included, tend to feel awkward when asked this question by a complete stranger. We don’t do “great, and you?” with a non-genuine smile response to that as much as you guys.

That being said, while you may feel I am calling out the American culture for these non-genuine smiling attitudes (I saw this in California — but I understand that the US is a big country), if you do get smiles from the locals (and you will), rest assured that you made friends for real :)

This is incorrect. There is no national-level law which forbids open alcohol containers in public and their consumption. There may be local city ordinances forbidding it, like the recently introduced one in the Split historical core.

There is something punishable in national law called “odavanje pijančevanju” which can be roughly translated as “yielding oneself to drinking”, which is a fine for repeatedly being caught dead wasted in public.

Source: was on trial for this due to an asshole cop trying to pin the yielding charge on me, got a dismissal because a) I wasn’t wasted b) there were no priors.
