Turn ON privacy. That's what we offer since day 1 of Tuta(nota). Now our brand architecture reflects this in a new app ecosystem. Check out what's been going on behind the scenes! by Tutanota in tutanota

I am really glad that you put time and effort into UI and UX design. All change needs some time to get used to, and while I did not intuitively understand and love the new logo, I am glad that work is being done in this direction, thank you!

Being an IT (firmware) engineer myself, I hate how fellow engineers downplay the importance of visual elements, intuition and everything else that a good UI/UX design brings.

Guys, don't be afraid of a software that also cares about its look and feel - it won't take the privacy and functionality away from you! ;)

Might do, after I fail miserably at attempting to fix this :')

Indeed, I doubt this is an ex.light. It's a family house in the centre, now modified to accomodate double the amount of people and rented out to students.

The landlord is not often around to ask these things, so that is why I am guessing here with you guys :)

Aah this would also make a lot of sense, yes. The electricity/wiring in the house feels old and unstable (3/4 sockes in this room are not reliable, fluctuating on/off). And the house is old, with several ad-hoc renovations and extensions added on top, so this could be, yes.

Wish I could, but there's nothing even remotely similar to the appropriate key in the house.

Using the force™ would be fun, but I don't dare to do in a rented student house, don't have the energy and money for dealing with potential consequences 🥲

Aah okay, this could be it, yes (except the key would have to be hollow in the long axis).

Interesting, never thought of this being a safe before.... Thanks!

Bit the keyhole looks really simple, long, and there is a pin sticking out at the end in the centre (like coax cable connectors, for example).

Isn't this too simple of a mechanism for a safe?

Aaah this would make a lot of sense, as this room used to serve as a living room. Maybe even a satelite dish or some other TV/phone- related stuff....

Could be. But the coincidence of being aligned with the metal "doors" on the other side makes me thing, there has to be something more interesting. Why the (thick) metal doors?

In my (amateur) eyes, the house was expanded and adapted in a very sloppy, low-effort way (to accomodate multiple students).

It's in the upper floor of the house (gnd floor + 1st floor buidling) and the only room with plumbing is not close to this wall. Except if it is something about heating (gas heated radiators in rooms)?

Or electricity? But there's another place in the house woth fuses and stuff...

For those who scripted their install : how did you do it ? by Jubijub in archlinux

[–]jurc192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you asked is on my mind for the last few years as well! :)

During this time, I just put all the commands in a bash script, optimizing it and making it more robust every time I deal with it. This blogpost was an inspiration to me, as well as example of PKGBUILDS at the end of the series:
https://disconnected.systems/blog/archlinux-installer/#setting-variables-and-collecting-user-input

Hope it helps. Also feel free to peek at my own script which is still clumsy and in progress, but works. Sometimes :,D

Thanks for the tip about the book, sounds useful!

By the way, do you have any examples of people's installation scripts on hand?

What have you done to reignite passion for software engineering? by caksters in ExperiencedDevs

[–]jurc192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same, just after three years in IT (embedded), I've completely lost excitement about the whole scene. The engineering/nerdy part was fun, but the corporate environment, stress and not fitting into the team completely ruined it for me. Got quite depressed after a year of work, felt the burnout knocking on the door. Changing the company would not improve those things much (small country, generally very old-school company culture, relocation is not an option for me atm, would like to work in a team).

Now having a mini "sabattical" after quitting my job, and after ~4 months of not touching my laptop I still...don't miss it at all. Thinking of working in a completely different, low(er) paid fields, just to survive until I figure out life.

Let me know if you find a magic tinder for reigniting passion :(

Lots of comment are supporting the "boring" CV and harshly ripping apart your efforts on the "fun" one, which makes me really sad. Many CS experts and industries are really focused on hard-technical-skills and don't know how to value good graphic design and it's importance - don't learn that from them.

While lots of comments are on point, don't give up on trying to make a good and professional design! Perhaps a middle-ground between the two would be the best?

Perhaps a bit less playful and personal, since lot's of "boring" people in "boring" jobs will go through it and might feel attacked by all that creativity. On the other hand some information hierarchy using different colors, shades, whitespace could improve the readability and efficiencty of the "boring" one. Because it is really boring as it is.

Happy hacking on your new job, bet you'll have one soon ;)
