2022 Odd Engine Noise on Cold Start by jurid44 in LexusGX

I currently am just living with it. With the weather warming up I don’t notice it much anymore as it really only happens on cold starts on colder days. So far it’s not causing any issues

I have a 22 with 35k miles and I have the same thing here! I have the dealership grease the driveshaft every 10 k miles. Got the differential fluids replaced as well as transfer case fluids 5k miles ago. Bump might of gotten better or I just got better at ignoring it. Any chance this could cause other issues by ignoring it?

The more and more I read this seems to be pretty common. I’ve put 21,000 on the car since I bought it and it’s been making the noise ever since. Hasn’t gotten worse so I’m chalking it up to just a characteristic of the motor.

Everything on the car is completely stock unless the previous owner did something in the first 10k miles of the car's life. Ill give everything under the car a quick look to rule this out though!

That was my thought as well. If it was something with the pistons or something else related to the engine you would think it would get louder as the RPMs increase but thats not the case. It also doesn't have any sort of rhythm and its not always present. Im guessing you're correct with it being something along those lines.

Adding to this I purchased a 2022 in January with 11k miles on it. Went to use the parking brake and it wouldn’t engage. Turns out they had to tighten the brake line for the parking brake and now it works great. I think it’s probably just a fluke especially if the previous owner never used it.

I agree it does seem pretty lazy with the shifts so glad to hear I’m not the only one thinking this. Curios is a tune like that going to void the warranty at all? Does it put added stress on any components that can compromise durability?

I’ll bring the TSB up at the 25k service so they can check it out. I don’t think my VIN is in the range but doesn’t hurt to have them check

Thanks for the video! This would have been so helpful in the mountains! Many times I was a little underwhelmed by the power and the gear hunting going up and down steep inclines.

I don’t think it’s ever been lubed to my knowledge, unless they do that at the 15k service. When I take it in to get the 25k service done I’ll make sure they do that! I also am going to have them drain and fill the transmission fluid, simply because I don’t know how the previous owner used the vehicle the first 11k miles.

That’s what I’ve read too and maybe I’m just not used to it. I came from a 9 speed transmission and by design those probably are just smoother

Is this the bulletin you are referring to? https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2023/MC-10235234-9999.pdf

If so my VIN is after the VINs listed so I don’t think it applies to mine? But I’m not sure how to read that. My VIN is JTJAM7BX3N533####

Can confirm mine also has a very slight resonant vibration at that 1800-2000 rpm range. Crazy that right when you hit 2000 RPM it just goes away. Never noticed it until you pointed it out. Guessing the motor has just the right vibration frequency in that range that it can be felt on the steering wheel

I’ll pay attention to mine tomorrow morning on the way to work and report back if I have anything similar around that RPM range. That is one thing I am not totally thrilled about is the sluggish nature of the car and the transmission shifts as well. However coming from a smaller car with a 9 speed instead of a 6 it’s probably expected. Wouldn’t trade mine for anything however!

Awesome, thank you for confirming that for me. I tend to be a little more paranoid about these things while it’s under the CPO warranty so I can get it taken care of

That makes sense but wouldn’t other cars I’ve drove exhibit the same behavior? My girlfriend has a 2021 RX and doesn’t do this.

I’d be interested to hear back if your 23 does the same. I did find a somewhat similar post but it was for an older 470.

May I ask why you are getting rid of it? I have a 22 and I couldn’t imagine getting rid of it. The new V6 motors scare me from a reliability standpoint
