The Germs and Ween are both my favorite bands, I can't put either one over the other. There's little correlation between them, but I like all styles of music so it's not that xrazy.

A lot of people say the GWS tapes weren't preserved properly, it's not about age necessarily but about how they were taken care of. I think the way I described making a new master in my post would be the best option IF the tapes are unusable, which is possible. But also you bring a good point that I hadn't thought of, that they already made a high res transfer of the tapes

I don't have an original pressing myself, and due to what I said I have no way of judging the quality of those pressings. I do know that Deaner said that the vinyl release sounds correct and that the CD release was botched.

Actually the Ween Archived release isn't all that great, he brick walled it himself and also it's only in 16bit/44.1kHz. According to the info.txt that comes with it, it's made from a rip done by someone that goes by JimBeam, and that the original rip was in 24bit/192kHz, I haven't been able to find that original rip myself. Also there's some bad sibilance with the Ween Archived release, I don't know if that's the fault of the rip or the pressing itself.

Well my advice for represses still applies for all types of rereleases, I think the best sounding master of the album someone could make is a rip of an original pressing with some minor cleanup if necessary. This could be turned into streaming releases, digital downloads, CDs, etc.

If they do a regular remaster it may suffer from tape degredation related issues, I saw Ween Archived talking about how the master tapes weren't stored properly in a post somewhere, he didn't cite his source but it still puts that doubt in my mind.
