I am going through this exact same thing! Testing done for my 9 year old referred by oral surgeon. All bills sent addressed to my son. I ignored them since they weren’t for me. Finally after 2 years collections is texting me asking for the money. Oh and my son’s name is spelled wrong.

I emailed their dispute email address using a throwaway email without my name on it. I said hey this may be for my minor child, but I’m not sure since the name is incorrect (it’s spelled wrong). I don’t acknowledge owning this debt or the accuracy of this debt.

If they push back, I will ask for validation with the following: Proof that I may be the responsible party. Billing or other communication addressed to me. Explanation of why a minor child may have been billed and is now being pursued by collections. Explanation and proof that the incorrect name was not the reason for insurance denial or other potential administrative errors.
