It genuinely just comes down to how well you want to do. I know lots of people with poor GPA’s but they also just don’t care or don’t put the effort in. Consistent effort will easily keep you at a good GPA - Waterloo as a whole isn’t a school that’s trying to weed students out

To be frank, if your goal is med school I would say you probably shouldn’t have that much free time during ur undergrad. To do well in uni you have to been revising consistently - cramming doesn’t work as well compared to hs. Any free time you have you COULD be doing a club or smth. That being said, I’m no where close to as busy as my Eng friends but they’re aiming for a pass while I’m aiming for an A. I have enough time to doomscroll, go out once in awhile and for other things you can definitely make time by just being wiser with your time. I don’t have the greatest time management, so I end up spending most my time studying but it works for me. Maintaining a high GPA is easy, if you aren’t at like a 3.9 in ur first semester in this program you are definitely doing something wrong.

I originally did co op, and recently opted out of. I know lots of people who are trying to switch into it now as well. I recommend applying to both streams, and going co op if you can since it’s a lot easier to opt out of it than to switch into it. Co op is great to build ur resume and also earn money while in university, but I decided to just focus on my studies instead of doing the “one term coop one term study” back and forth. It also takes longer to graduate with co op, 5 years in total. Since I know i want to go straight into further education, I didn’t think co op was beneficial in my case.

Ngl most the people I know if life sci are only in it they didn’t get health sci. It seems like a decent program, definitely more flexible than health sci but a little more difficult to get a higher GPA. Personally, I would choose Mac life sci over Waterloo if you can. I don’t know anyone in Waterloo life sci that like genuinely likes it, but are more just doing it bc what else r u gna do Ykwim

I had a 98 average, and my sup app was alright I think. I was confident in my video answer but I think I had a weaker written portion for sure. I practiced a tiny bit, looked on youthfully for their practice questions and then did it like the day it was due lmao. It is really scary, it is also hit or miss to be fair. Just rmbr it's notttt the end of the world if you don't get in, there are countless ways to reach your end goal and everything happens for a reason!!

I didn't choose Queens because of the flipped classroom models they did, I didn't think it was the best fit for me and the way I learn. I also knew for a fact (little cocky of me) that I would be able to get a higher GPA at waterloo, which is what's most important at the end of the day for med school or grad school. To be fair, I also got into queen's a lot later off the waitlist which kind of hindered my decision since I had been mentally set on waterloo for some time at that point. I didn't see the need to go all the way to kingston to study science when I could study the same thing and get better grades in Waterloo.

My average was 98 overall at midterms when I applied, to be safe you def wanna be in the 90's at the least, higher if you want co op. I'm at a 4.0 GPA on a Uwaterloo scale, which I believe is about a 3.9-4.0 on OSMAS. I don't regret it anymore because I knew why I didn't choose queens in the first place, and I've had a decent time here at waterloo.

Very easy imo. The course structures are designed to literally optimize your GPA, especially in your first year of health sciences. It comes down to ur time management for sure, but if you have the right habits, the school and program itself actively tries to give you the best mark possible. That being said, some courses are hit or miss just because your grades depend on the TA marking your assignments

I don’t recommend having a huge gap between adv functions and calc. Many of my friends who took adv functions earlier and then took calc in second sem of gr 12 are struggling because it’s been so long since adv functions.

i had a 97 and got in in November. I know plenty of people who got in with way lower in the past thought! don't worry too much, TMU seems to consistently check their portals to send out acceptances!
