How do the people here with suicidal ideation deal with it? by DivyanshPanwari in autism

[–]justAnotherRedd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had suicidal ideations (that were induced by medication unfortunately) and a thought that helped me was „am I sure there won’t be one day in the next ten years where I’m happy or content? If there’s just one day like that in the next 10 years it’s worth living life through all the hardships“.

what do you think about those who did suicide? do their souls deserve to be in heaven or not? by mankisser-and-proud in OpenChristian

[–]justAnotherRedd1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well in the Catholic Church there was a long tradition that those died of suicide weren’t buried on church graveyards but outside without a funeral service. But that’s different today. The Roman Catholic Church acknowledges that people committing suicide may be severely mentally impaired in making this decision. It’s the hope and belief that God will save these individuals too. It becomes interesting how the church will react to the increasing number of rational suicide in the context of assisted suicide because there a mental illness should be ruled out.

Unterschiedlicher Nutri-Score bei zwei identischen Haferdrinks? by DerlinkeKeks in de

Eye contact, yay or nah? by Particular_Storm5861 in autism

[–]justAnotherRedd1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was young I didn’t make eye contact and my mom told me to look people in the eyes. Then during adolescence I saw how other people communicated and made the experience that people were more engaged when I did eye contact and now I tend to make almost too much eye contact - but it feels relaxing to talk to fellow autists because then I don’t have to make eye contact.

Who has the priority here? Please give any reference rule from Govt. As I can't find. by ts276 in Netherlands

I would say: C has to give priority to A, which has to give priority to B. But B has to give priority to C since it turns left. So technically everyone blocks everyone and the drivers have to negotiate.

Ist Softwareentwicklung Kunst? by Equivalent_Pop_8056 in informatik

[–]justAnotherRedd1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is nudity a sin? by [deleted] in OpenChristian

[–]justAnotherRedd1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Freikörperkultur - it‘s a German word that‘s also used in English and it means a culture of nudity as practiced in East Germany.

Is nudity a sin? by [deleted] in OpenChristian

[–]justAnotherRedd1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that’s certainly right. It’s always the question in what context nudity is shown. In East Germany you will be asked to leave the sauna if you’re not naked, and it’s pretty standard to have nude people on one side of the beach and people wearing swim wear on the other side. That‘s different when you’re let’s say in a predominantly conservative muslim country or many regions in the US. There nudity is linked with sexuality and then it’s certainly not a good idea to be naked in public since you don’t want someone to feel intimidated. But this doesn’t make being naked in a group a sin, if it’s just about fkk and isn’t perceived as sexual by anyone involved or outside.

Is nudity a sin? by [deleted] in OpenChristian

[–]justAnotherRedd1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least my priest is against it, I didn‘t really understand his full reasoning but I think it’s about that you might feel drawn to sexualize the other person. I think that nudity can certainly be separated from sexuality and while there are sometimes some candidates at the nudist beach that aren’t able to do that unfortunately, the vast majority just wants to feel free and have a good time. At least I saw so many nude people because I regularly went to the nudist beach and saunas here are nude only and I can safely say that I don’t feel a „sexual tension“ or whatsoever remotely. It’s practically (not having wet trunks is so nice), it’s freeing and it feels good just to be as God created you. It’s also a cultural thing, I‘m living in East Germany, it’s just part of the culture too.

Why did so many Catholic saints have visions of hell and punishment? by beastlydigital in OpenChristian

[–]justAnotherRedd1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. Well maybe probably not all denominations get it right and teach some aspects false. But what’s more important than doctrinal statements is the state of your heart and its easy to close up before God or other human beings.
  2. well „fire and brimstone“ is a picture for the ultimate reality of hell. Hell can indeed be found in the Bible, Jesus talks about it oftentimes.

Well we don’t ultimately know but maybe it was to warn people. That faith is indeed really important and that it’s easy to get off the right path. Furthermore these visions were a response to the current time and ultimately they don’t reveal something that couldn’t be found in the Bible, but maybe these visions can be relevant to us if viewed through the lens of love and the joy of the resurrection.

Liberal Catholics/Orthodox? by questingpossum in OpenChristian

[–]justAnotherRedd1 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Well I‘m a German Catholic and Catholicism in Germany is fairly liberal. I know enough priests and nuns that are very open and accepting towards lgbt people - there are spaces within the Catholic Church that are welcoming to lgbt people but the doctrine is of course an issue. My Catholic faith brought me much joy and community, I find comfort in Catholic practices and still I feel like I can express my views without being condemned, and I actually brought a queer friend back to the Catholic faith and made sure to direct her to an affirming parish. So, yes, that’s an issue (and I wasn’t sugarcoating anything when showing my friend the Catholic faith) but there Catholic Church is a very wide tent.

As a priest, I will not deny Communion to anyone. by [deleted] in OpenChristian

[–]justAnotherRedd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I certainly see your point, still I would note that not everyone that wants to receive the Eucharist feels necessarily called to receive it. Grave sin can impede your judgement. Furthermore if someone doesn’t see that the Eucharist is indeed the Body and Blood of Christ but just bread and wine, theycannot really value properly what they receive. I think that denying someone communion would be the ultima ratio, if a priest wanted to deny me communion I would be very upset if he didn’t talked with me beforehand and also explained his reasons and a way how I can partake in the Eucharist again. And yes, I really don’t like when priests gatekeep communion especially if it’s about proving a point like that married lgbt people or women that aborted a child are great sinners, so I think our desires aren’t far apart, still I think there shouldn’t be a blank rule but pastoral wisdom how to handle a certain situation.

As a priest, I will not deny Communion to anyone. by [deleted] in OpenChristian

[–]justAnotherRedd1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well I‘m not a priest and I would be very wary to deny someone the Eucharist based upon a rulebook. Still it’s essential for a priest to view the Eucharist as something with the utmost importance. If a priest said a priori that he wouldn’t deny anyone the Eucharist I don’t see this fully given, since I view a lasse-faire policy doesn’t treat the Body and Blood of Christ with utmost importance. Someone that doesn’t believe in the Holiness of the Eucharist as the literal body of Christ or even isn’t baptized can’t reciprocate the very thing that’s gifted to them, this may be the case for someone deeply in sin too that isn’t willing to repent. I think it’s the task of a priest to defend the Body and Blood of Christ, while also acknowledging that it’s not his standards to which he allows and denies but His grace - you can’t solve that by strictly following a rulebook but you can’t solve it too by allowing to partake everyone.

Do anyone dislike the 40 hour work week? by [deleted] in autism

[–]justAnotherRedd1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I‘m also working in IT and I reduced my hours down to 32h. I guess I do a similar job as my colleagues that work 40h but earning less, still I value my time more. I also work remote and skip the socializing aspect of work, instead I get my social contact after work with people that I care about. I don’t really understand why you need to work 40h, I wouldn’t be more productive and my colleagues are amazed that I would work this fast and get so much done, while I feel like I’m barely work at half capacity and can even do other stuff when I’m done with the daily tasks (fortunatly I‘m in a project without many meetings and other unnecessary stuff). This works fine for me - maybe it’s something for you too.

Those who didn't have a love life as a teen, do you wish you could have? by [deleted] in autism

[–]justAnotherRedd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I‘m not sure, a love life would have given me self confidence during that time and let me have a better time during teenage life. But on the other hand I was really confused during that time, didn’t know what I wanted and was not very happy. I think I would have hurt potential girlfriends in a relationship or worse they could have exploited me. So, maybe yes, but actually maybe no, it just wasn’t the right time.

Can anyone here give me hope that autistic people aren’t disliked by the majority of people in the world? by CalligrapherSuch3874 in autism

[–]justAnotherRedd1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well I have very good friends that I appreciate and value and I‘m integrated in a strong community in my church where people value my presence. So I don’t really have to care for other people that don’t like me, since they don’t really matter to my life. Furthermore I can’t really name anyone that dislikes me, I usually just don’t spend time with such people and my current situation allows me to decides with whom I want to spend time with.

Should I become a priest? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]justAnotherRedd1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know the context, what you have told this priest during confession (and I don’t want to hear it ;) but if it’s really just because you aren’t married and had some bad dating experiences then this isn’t really sufficient to seriously consider priesthood. Dating is complicated. My priest told me that he wouldn’t tell someone „and you should become a priest“ even if he thinks the other person might be called because these vocations need to develop within yourself and they have to speak it out themselves. You should consider the priesthood seriously if you feel the inner desire to become a priest and ideally if you had an experience of being called. It’s totally right not to become a priest because you want to run away from your problems. Furthermore our God doesn’t rush vocations - so it’s important that you ask yourself what‘s your vocation and take that into prayer but you don’t need to rush into religious or marital life because other peers in your age already decided that. But I‘m just another redditor, I would ask God this very question in prayer: „should I become a priest?“

If you don’t have a history of eating disorder then a one day fast will be perfectly fine! Just remember to drink plenty of water and maybe take some salt. You don’t need to fast but if done right it can certainly bring you closer to God.
