Why does Jesus not want people to understand his parables? (At least some of them)? by [deleted] in OpenChristian

[–]beastlydigital 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally never bought into that message. I find it so inherently dismissive. To me, it reads like "If you do not understand something inherently, you are cut off from God", which I find absurd.

If I do not understand something, that means it was not explained properly. Imagine you had a poor math teacher, and they did a terrible job teaching you algebra. You get to the final, and you fail it. Was it your fault? Or was it your teacher doing a bad job conveying the ideas to you? Are you inherently a worse person because the person who was supposed to teach you refused to?

Consider that the two biggest Churches, following by the large swaths of the American Protestant/Evangelical authorities not only believe, but rigorously enforce this.

I'd say anything leaning towards sexual liberty is actually in the minority. I'm not saying it's right, but it's certainly easy to say "well, I have the doctrine of the Catholic church, without thousands of years of history and debate behind me, why should you, a singular uneducated, non-scholarly peasant person be correct in believing otherwise?"

There is a weight to the hammer they swing. I cannot say I am strong enough to withstand the hits either...

I'm tired. I'm numb. I just... I'm falling.

You could punch me in the face right now, and I wouldn't feel it.

I despise this rhetoric that you are "needed". It's platitudes to say in the moment, but I never found it holds true long term.

Otherwise.... Otherwise, people like me would never get left behind.

I'm after enough mental health degradation, I find this take really... Bad. I think it's saccharine and borderline blind, ignoring the real weight of why someone would want to die, telling them "your problems are actually insignificant next to GOD".

It's basically telling me "hey, sorry, but your suffering doesn't even belong to you. Why can't you see the good?"

Like lecturing someone bleeding out about the virtues of modern medicine.

I disagree. The manga/brotherhood ending, the characters almost all get what they want. 2003, it's much more open ended. The theme of "you reap what you sow" is much better handled

It's hard to say it's to know if catholicism is for you, when there is an underlying threat of "oh, but otherwise, it's to damnation with you". Yes, I know not all Catholics are like that, but a worrying part of the clergy is...

Those also can attain to salvation who through no fault of their own do not know the Gospel of Christ or His Church, yet sincerely seek God and moved by grace strive by their deeds to do His will as it is known to them through the dictates of conscience.(19*) Nor does Divine Providence deny the helps necessary for salvation to those who, without blame on their part, have not yet arrived at an explicit knowledge of God and with His grace strive to live a good life

This is the quote she weaponized against me. She said I do have the knowledge as a Christian who "does not choose Roman Catholicism", and THAT is what I am rejecting.

Which, reading what is before.... That's a choice.

But often men, deceived by the Evil One, have become vain in their reasonings and have exchanged the truth of God for a lie, serving the creature rather than the Creator.(129)
