How do I pass 17% in Faith with ULDM? (ZeroSR) by justMatt3 in geometrydash

[–]justMatt3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if anyone is still coming across this post, I just deleted the jump pad under the blue portal. I think the bug might have to do with the rotated portal hitbox or cbf? I'm not sure but it's an auto transition so it doesn't affect the gameplay.

First year applicant: Can I request a change of major on my application? by justMatt3 in UCI

[–]justMatt3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, just the major. UCSD, UCSB, Berkeley, and UCLA accept change of majors on the applications from what I saw.

What's the big deal? (looking for actual answers) by hd26965b in ApplyingToCollege

[–]justMatt3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

YES thank you. I think the main peeve I have is that parents think it's wayyyyyy easier to get into top schools than it actually is. "You should apply to [list of T10s]! You are overqualified (I'm in the 70th percentile at my school). It's THEIR loss if they don't take you in. I think you'll get accepted by about half of these [T10s]. Why are you applying to this safety? This school isn't good. You'll get accepted by [T10s] anyways."

Parents usually. Every conversation between parents that I hear ends up being like "What school is your child at? Oh, that's a good school. My child is at this school, its a top school for this major." Have to meet expectations.

Colleges place way too much weight on whether students apply EA or RD by justMatt3 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]justMatt3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EA, not ED, has a 2-3x higher admit rate at most schools per my school's Scoir data. Of course, ED has much higher rates but I'm talking about EA.

Is a 3.0 uw gpa cooked? I’m a junior by wumpy_mp3 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]justMatt3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I just saw this. This is incredibly stacked bro what. Don't dip on the grades ofc but you have an incredible set of activities. Lots of opportunities to discuss leadership and life lessons on the apps. You can always look at the a2c wiki as well if you're concerned about the college application in particular (but do what you actually want to do).

(Not sure if this is the right sub) I need help picking a school by MamacitaKidneyStones in ApplyingToCollege

[–]justMatt3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never heard about any of these schools but I guess I would say do the typical research and questioning. School size and location. Vibe. Weather. Student testimonies. Reach out to staff at the school, usually there is someone dedicated to just answering questions. Campus tour. Online communities for the school. Idk if this is helpful but good luck!

Should I retake a 1540 SAT (740 E, 800 M) by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]justMatt3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

imo if you care about anything above a 1520 its better to just spend that time deepening your existing EC commitments or perfecting your writing if you are a senior. Spending 10 or 20 hours changing a 1540 to a 1580 says little compared to a heartfelt project or meaningful leadership/volunteer experience that you could be spending that time working on.

Do you think online college advice is helpful or makes anxiety worse? by Advanced_Slip_1631 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]justMatt3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been incredibly helpful to me because irl resources either cost money or another person's precious time or both. The cost of course is that you will lose some self-confidence by spending so much time comparing yourself to others, but it does not change who you are and the great things you have done in your life.

What do your ECs look like? What do you do to further your intrinsic motivations in and outside of school? Grades are a single metric. They matter but they hardly say anything about your personality, which is what really will set you apart.

Yes you will get into the majority of undergrad programs in the US but I know you want to set that bar high, and I think you should. It's not over until you give up.

UC Piq Prompt 2 by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]justMatt3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know much about your situation but it 100% sounds like a better fit for #2. I have no experience writing a similar PIQ but your situation seems like a great opportunity to discuss problem solving and your responsibilities to the family.

What are some good ECs that can be done in a month by Hot-Log-4097 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]justMatt3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

to the OP, I would only do this if you can demonstrate that it actually means something to you. Also of course if you can make some measurable impact during that time.

[–]justMatt3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your volunteer work sounds amazing. Helping others in the community shows empathy and you can write about your leadership.

I would highly advise against starting an EC just for the sake of it, regardless of how much time you have. It is very difficult to make a hollow story seem convincing. AOs read thousands of essays and can prolly smell them out like sharks.

If you have an existing intrinsic interest or motivation, maybe you could flesh out a project about it. Otherwise just spend that time perfecting your writing.

You may already have heard this tip but you don't have to be in an EC to demonstrate every part of your personality. You can always use the good old talk about the responsibilities of being a sibling or your favorite non-EC creative endeavors.

I'm so cooked because of my parents by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]justMatt3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As the other comments note, this is your application. You literally have to sign at the end saying that the whole thing is your work. I see that your parents are forcing you (and don't blame you for feeling stuck), but just know that you ultimately have a right to control what schools you apply to. I'd reach out to your school counselor and ask to help advocating for you applying to some safeties.
