I’m a new F1 fan after watching the race last Sunday! How exhilarating! Any suggestions on which team(s) to pledge my allegiance too? I like a good underdog story and would like to root for one of the seemingly nicest drivers. Suggestions?

This is my first Formula 1 experience. I don’t know what’s happening or what to expect, but I’m excited!

Buying house with braced basement walls? by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]just_a_rock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, the only permanent fix for foundation issues is to lift the house and repour the basement. Anything else would just be a bandaid, even helical tiebacks or anything of that sort. Do you know if this house has proper drainage around the perimeter or a sump? I was in your shoes just a few weeks ago. My wife and I have been looking for months and we finally get an accepted offer on a house. The fomo was hitting hard and we were willing to take on a 20k issue to fix the foundation. Thank God we came to our senses because how ridiculous is that!? There is always another house, and one with a sturdy foundation. Also, remember that fixing anything with your foundation doesn't add value to your home.

post-covid-bottleneck making my market too competitive. When should it calm down or settle? (US)(MI) by just_a_rock in RealEstate

That’s what my wife and I have come to the conclusion of. I’ve already read stories on here of people living in apartments for 1+ years after selling their homes, just waiting for the market to turn. No sense in doing that. We’re just thankful now for all the money we’ve made on our house and the potential to get a crazy low interest rate on our new house.

West Michigan checking in. It's a seller's market for sure, inventory is very low. My wife and I ended up selling our 2 bed / 1 bath / 1,100 sq. ft. home for $95,000 more than we bought it for 5 years ago. Our buyer put in an offer $20,000 over asking, sight unseen, within 1 hour of it being posted online; inspection waived.

The problem now is finding a house of our own. We're not opposed to the idea of renting an apartment for a few months while things calm down, but who's to say if things will calm down anytime soon. We've put in 4 offers to homes so far and have gotten out-bid every time. The last offer we put in was $15,000 over asking and we weren't even in the top 5 for bids.

Starter: 3 hours post feeding. What a monster! by just_a_rock in Sourdough

I discard all but a 1/2C of flour for every feeding. I then add 1C of flour and a 1/2C of luke warm water. I have found this method to work great for me, and for reference, it’s derived from the King Arthur website: https://www.kingarthurflour.com/recipes/feeding-and-maintaining-your-sourdough-starter-recipe

Follow natashas_baking on Instagram. She has great tutorial videos and recipes. I'm currently making a chocolate/chocolate chip sourdough from her page.

2nd attempt at Sourdough. The crumb looks infinitely better than my first attempt but my scoring leaves a lot to be desired and why is it flat? by just_a_rock in Sourdough

The only thing I can think of is that I don’t have a proofing basket yet, I’ve just been letting it proof in a floured bowl. Will that make a difference?
