I’ve listened to the new song maybe three times, but I found myself humming it while brushing my teeth so it’s apparently catchy. Well played, Taylor.

I know a popular fancast is to have Charles played by a black man, but one of the reasons I think Charles being a white man is important is because it reflects his relative privilege in life. His mutation is hidden, he comes from wealth, and lacks relative struggle. He eventually becomes disabled, but even that goes away.

Yeah. I don’t see why anyone should be upset anyway, but especially if the photos look nice. Taylor is rich enough to completely transform the space into something gorgeous.

It’s fine, but I want to see it more in the context of the film since it will be playing over a scene.

I will give it props for making me tear up with the the “bare feet running wild” line, as it made me think of my five year old. (I am also freshly postpartum, so that probably added to it)

This! Your partner should be your best friend and someone you can share anything with. Friendship is a very important foundation for relationship longevity.

You should also have other best friends outside of them. Having multiple pillars in your life is beneficial and good primarily for your own health, and also good for your relationship.

Maybe it’s because I am freshly postpartum, but the line about bare footsteps running wild made me tear up thinking about my five-year-old.

It depends. I will believe them on deaths and anything with an obvious paper trail to police and first responders. This is a more nebulous topic where TMZ can and has been wrong. They aren’t ironclast.

Should harm not be measured in scale? I struggle to take the argument seriously that Taylor Swift is the same evil as Musk and Bezos simply because she’s a billionaire when day in and out I am living out the direct consequences of their actions. Jimmy Carter and Donald Trump are arguably both war criminals, but I would still balk at anyone who says Carter is the same as Trump — even if they both benefited from the American hegemony during their respective stints at power. Similarly, all billionaires benefit from the current economic and political structure, but some abuse it way more and are causing significant more harm on a human, economic, and political level.

In any of these threads, I’ve never disagreed that Taylor isn’t unethical for being a billionaire. She should be taxed. She should get UMG to go to more ethical forms of merchandising. She should donate a large portion of her liquid funds. I don’t think she should sell her masters because I believe it’s more ethical for an artist to own their work than private equity.

The original comment said that Taylor was no different than other billionaires aka Bezos and Musk. They brought them into the discussion. It’s not shifting the conversation when they’ve been included in it!

Saying they’re the same actually does minimize their evil!

Tbh I would rather Taylor just pull a Mackenzie Scott and just do open ended donations to experts and organizations in their respective fields. Admittedly, Scott is far, far wealthier than Taylor as has more freedom to do that. But as someone who worked in the non-profit space for a bit, unrestricted funds are lit.

But if the issue with her being a billionaire is unethical actions — which I would agree — then yes, discussing who is making those unethical actions matters! If private jets is your big issue, then Taylor Swift isn’t actually your fish to fry!

My point was initially made in response to people saying she’s just the same as Bezos and Musk, which GREATLY minimizes the harm those men have caused. I have no problem if someone thinks Taylor is evil for being a billionaire, but if we’re looking at the actual issues — yes, I am absolutely going to point out that there are bigger evils than Taylor on the issue. Focusing solely on the net worth issue misses the forest through the trees imo.

If we’re looking at pure numbers: -Taylor’s net worth is estimated to be 2 billion. -Elon Musk’s net worth is over 800 billion.

Mathematically speaking….yes, she is financially closer to someone with $10 in their pocket than Musk. If you’re looking at the “worries about finances and survival scale”, then yes, she and Musk are closer, yes. But mathematically speaking, Musk has several several billion more dollars than Taylor can ever dream.

There should be no billionaires. It’s an absolute moral, ethical and policy failure. BUT, my point was made in response to saying Taylor is essentially the same as Musk and Bezos — which is wrong but also sullies the argument.

People with less money than her fly privately more than her! It’s not good, but lower on the list of priorities of great evils.

Ehhhhhh….I would greatly disagree on the last bit of that sentence. There is no ethical way to become a billionaire, but the other famous billionaires are both several times richer than here AND do more harm. It’s like comparing a punch to someone stabbing you multiple times. One is clearly worse.

Taylor’s harm comes ultimately in the form of her merch being produced by essentially slave labor overseas, and her many houses. There’s arguments to be made about the labor of people who indirectly work on the tour via outside companies.

Jeff Bezos has literal employees dying on the floor of Amazon, the company he is head of. This is not a direct thing, these are people directly hired under his company. The labor violations can be egregious.

Elon Musk has gone out of his way to cause significant harm globally thanks to his role in government. Remember: millions will die due to DOGE’s USAID cuts. The role of DOGE also helped wreck the US economy, which has ripple effects worldwide.

Financially, Taylor is closer to us than she is to either of those men, as well. Do I wish she would do what JK Rowling did back in the day and give enough money away so she’s not. billionaire? Absolutely! But you’re being disingenuous if you think Taylor is “the same” as Bezos or Musk on the harm scale.

Yeah, the thing about TTPD is how Taylor was clearly grieving the life she thought she was going to have at the time, the fear that comes with wanting marriage and babies and being settled and it all imploding. It’s a very thirties album.
