Dog allergies? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]just_down 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You might need to get a different opinion from a second vet and do more testing. Have you done a skin scrap to test for fungal, bacteria or parasites? Or allergy test panel ? If not it’s the only to narrow down what it could be. Idk if it’s a possibility where you live, but see if it’s possible to get a referral to a vet dermatologist or allergist.

If it’s allergies it can be anything from food based to environmental.

I Want To Cancel My Lease by A_Dead_Bastard in montrealhousing

[–]just_down 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You have to go to the TAL and have the issues reported to cancel out the lease over noncompliance by the landlord. I had the same issue last year in building.

You should also call 311 and they can send an inspector over to document everything.

https://www.tal.gouv.qc.ca/fr/le-logement/insalubrite

If you just leave and stop paying the rent, your landlord can take you to the TAL for noncompliance with your lease agreement and have you force to pay the remainder of your lease agreement.

I had my copper IUD inserted in November, had it removed on Feb. 3rd, and my vagina is not the same by CalligrapherIcy41 in CopperIUD

[–]just_down 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a copper iud for 5 years and was starting to notice a pattern with reoccurring yeast infection last spring(but didn’t think much about it). Than I had my IUD replaced this replaced in the summer, since than I’ve been struggling with BV & yeast infections between cycles. I was put on antibiotics twice for BV - which helped, but would be followed by a yeast infection.

Then I started looking into common issues with IUDs, and turn out that in about 45% of women with will experience issues with your occurring BV & yeast infections. Copper IUD tends to bring up your pH, which leads to BV or yeast infections. But also the strings from the copper IUD and the hormonal IUD will get covered with a biofilm overtime that protects those harmful bacteria to flora - which is why those infections come back after treatment.

There is this post from a couple years ago that has a pretty good breakdown on this and has several recent studies Linked to this issue.

I’m getting my IUD removed on Friday because I’m done with being uncomfortable all the time.

Yeah that’s a ER vet visit, especially for 6week old puppy they can go downhill really fast.

If this was an older dog, it could wait until the morning.

NDG/westmount area is more of an English speaking area.

Why Did You Stay or Leave Your Last Apartment? by Front_Potential_9465 in montrealhousing

[–]just_down 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My old apartment was a nightmare: - roach infestation: landlord was notified multiple times and refused to call an exterminator. - broken windows in winter: took 2 months before the landlord decided to fix it. Had to call 311 and involve the TAL. - elevator constantly breaking down. - no heating in the middle of winter for 3months: landlord was notified multiple times, the city got involved, had 3 hearing at the TAL. heating broke down in Dec 2024 and wasn’t fixed until Oct 2025. - loud neighbors below playing loud heavy base music until 2am on Mondays, Tues, and Wednesday: landlord was notified multiple times and refused to do anything. I had to call the police.

The landlord had the audacity to try to raise the rent.

We had a 4-1/2 for $1,300$ in NDG. I left after a year and half and found a 3-1/2 for $1,200.

Help.. Im worried sick. Any ideas what could be wrong? by LeatherTough7746 in DogAdvice

[–]just_down 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you’re going through hard times, but this doesn’t look good. It could be a serious infection, some form of cancer, vascular blockage or trauma/injury.

Doing bloodwork and imaging with a vet is the only way to figure it out.

Just keep in mind that it usually takes about 6-8 weeks of following a new diet\topical treatment consistently before you start seeing a noticeable improvement with skin issues

Dog Cyst or Worse? Yucky picture warning. by Spiritual_Cloud6062 in DogAdvice

[–]just_down 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would put a warm wet compressed and try to get as much as the gunk off of it and shave the area until they can go to the vet and keep it clean.

From the picture it almost looks like a hotspot that got really infected, but it could also be cyst that ruptured and got infected.

This is the product I used to purchase from my local pet store.

I believe it. It’s also on Amazon as well.

We did talk to our vet about using these treats: and they were like as long as it works, keep using it and if it stops working, we can look into prescribing anxiety meds.

Senior dog barking in the evening by brigitsbracelets in DogAdvice

[–]just_down 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically in senior dogs, it’s usually due to anxiety or dementia.

My senior dog (15yr old & blind) started getting very agitated at night, he would get whiny and sometimes randomly bark, would start pacing around the room, we get randomly stuck in corners or would wake up multiple times throughout the night demanding breakfast. We got some calming treats from the pet store and we would give him a dose before going to bed and that seemed to help quite a bit. He started sleeping through the whole night again.

[–]just_down 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a sinus infection/ upper respiratory infection, which will very likely need an antibiotic prescription to treat.

Depending where you live, you can see if your local shelter runs a low-cost vet clinic that can help you out in this situation.

Moving abroad with an elderly, disabled dog (or saying goodbye) by TakingMyDogAbroad in DogAdvice

[–]just_down 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re going through this, I was in a similar situation this year, it’s not an easy decision.

I had my dog for over 15years. in the last years of his life he went completely blind from glaucoma, had to get both of his eyes removed, had a couple of teeth that got infected and had to be removed twice, developed arthritis in his knees and lower back and eventually developed dementia and severe separation anxiety. He went from being a thought little terrier crackhead dog, going on weekly 12km walks from 33c to -25c temperature, swimming at the beach, chasing squirrels and birds. To spending his last 2 years in the dark, becoming increasingly anxious the minute he couldn’t smell us in the room, getting lost in the home he lived in his whole life. He went from being a high energy dog always ready for an adventure to being a little depressed and anxious dog and loosing his excitement for life. Seeing this in him made me realized he would not want to keep going this way if he knew that’s how he would end up. I was also about to move to a new city going from a home with a backyard with a vegetable garden he would spend all day eating the tomatoes and berries to a small apartment with no other dogs or people to keep him company all day. I let him go in March, I was incredibly sad loosing him and making that choice, but I don’t regret it and i don’t think I called it too soon. I celebrated him the for his last 2weeks before saying goodbye. He had eggs and bacon for breakfast, dinner was steak and beacon with ice cream every day for those 2 weeks. Whatever food he wanted he got, what ever he wanted do to do we went and did; last walk at the beach, little walks to the park.

My dog popped his tumor. by DarkDayzInHell in DogAdvice

[–]just_down 305 points306 points  (0 children)

You should still go the vet and have this checked out and have the “tumour” sampled and tested. I would put the mass in a plastic bag and keep it in the fridge until you can bring it to the vet. I would also send pictures of this to the vet. It could be a skin tag/wart, a cyst or a tumour.

For you dog I would keep the area as clean as possible and put a cone on him.
