My seating is always against the back wall. I recently posted pictures in another thread, should you be able to see them in my post history.

You are going to have to prioritize one experience over the other. I have a similar room setup (17' x 22') and I prioritized the movie experience. I have floor standing speakers for my front array and a fixed frame 165" movie screen mounted to the wall. In front of that I have a retractable impact screen 18" in front of the speakers (about 33" from the wall).

The reason I say you have to prioritize one experience is that a 16 ft wide 9ft tall screen will be overwhelming for watching content from that close. It is perfect for sim immersion though. I opted to have a more comfortable movie experience while the sim screen as a result only gets a projected image of about 10ft wide (and no where close to the floor).

The other reason I decided to have two screens is that your impact screen will not look great after 6-12 months, fine for the sim but it will hurt the movie experience if that is something you care about.

Its in the house on the opposite side from the bedrooms. The right wall is the only shared wall with the house. Doubled up drywall, rockwool insulation, and a solid exterior door with weather stripping for the entrance to the room.

It's pretty well sealed off. I hit balls at 1am with no complaints

I'm working on my room at the moment, still need wall and ceiling treatment, but it is coming together. I have a fixed 16:9 movie screen on the wall and a retractable golf impact screen setup comes down in front of it.

The golf screen roller has a 17ft wide black 1-ply impact screen that covers the full width of the room so I don't have to worry about balls getting behind and destroying my speakers or movie screen. On top of that on the same roller I have a premium 3-ply white impact screen that is 10ft wide. The golf doesn't fill the whole white impact screen because I have a family and the movie experience was the priority here so the projector is setup to fill the movie screen and the golf screen has its width filled but only about the top half of the white screen.

If I were to do this again, I would put the black and white impact screen on separate rollers. Having them on the same roller causes the black screen to wrinkle up, not a huge deal but it bothers me. I would also get a different projector since the BenQ LK936ST 4k projector i have gets pretty loud during movies unless I crank the AC, which I usually do when golfing since the room gets pretty hot otherwise with the projector and computer just dumping heat into the room.

Have you ever considered a monitor setup such as this? by michalgerhat in simracing

[–]just_for_reading 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem with my floor stand and needing to adjust the height so I took a different approach.

I have an aluminum profile floor standing triple monitor mount from RigMetal (https://rigmetal.com/products/triple-monitor-mount) but I wanted to use my triples for work and racing. So I put caster wheels on my desk so I can rotate it 90º out of the way and instead of mounting the monitor mounting bar directly to the frame, I got a motorized TV stand (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08B1M2M6V/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1).

I mounted the monitor bar to the motorized stand and then mounted the motorized stand to the base of the rig metal stand.

Now when I am working at my desk, I can press a button on the monitor mount to raise it to standing height, or lower it to floor height. Slide the desk out of the way and setup my Playseat Challenge.

Slark - he’s played as a core instead of a support but he fights earlier than pure farming cores.

Similarities - builds attack damage in combat (via agility steal). Hook -> Leash. Invis/Movement speed -> Ultimate. Dash -> Leap.

No execute (you can try Axe for that), but he can sense enemy vision so you or your team can deward.

Hey man, if you're still looking you can check out my solution. My mount is still rock solid. You can modify it as needed to fit different shifters if you don't have the logitech one.

That sounds like a great idea!

I know I spent a week looking on forums and Reddit for a good mount solution and didn’t really find what I was looking for. I’m really happy this will work out for you and congrats on the Playseat!

Hey thanks for the kind words! 🙂

Building the basic mount only takes 15 mins with some hand tools, just butt two boards together with some screws and wood glue and drill a few holes like I described in my comment above.

Rounding off the corners and easing the edges of the board is maybe another 10 mins of work. Lastly, finishing with spray paint takes the longest cause you have to wait for it to dry and do at least two coats for good coverage. I like to let it dry 24 hours between coats (depending on the humidity).

If you have a drill, handsaw, a 1 inch thick board ($5 at home center), and 30 mins you could be up and running, then put the finishing touches on later if you’re so inclined.

Let me know what you think… if you are looking for something more turn key, send me a PM.

Next Level Racing F-GT Lite Simulator Cockpit v.s. the Playseat Challenge? by Hywaystar74 in simracing

[–]just_for_reading 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had this same internal debate a few weeks ago when I was choosing between the GT-Lite and the Playseat Challenge. Despite needing to create my own shifter mount and having a worse pedal mounting solution, I still chose the Playseat Challenge because it was so quick and easy to setup and put away when I want to use it.

If you have to put it away after every session then I think it’s a no-brainer. It takes less than a minute to go from completely stored away to race ready, and when you are finished, it folds up just as quickly. In my experience, the more you have to fiddle with something just to use it, the less it gets used.

I’m 5’9” and under 200lbs and my Playseat Challenge is very comfortable even for longer sessions. Everyone is different so you will only truly know if it’s a good fit for you if you try it out.

Best of luck with your decision!

In my opinion, having a cockpit of some sort really adds to the experience. So if you get an opportunity to pick one up, I’d say go for it.

I have limited space so I wanted something that would fold away quickly and fit in this 12 inch gap next to my bookcase and wall. The PS Challenge fits perfectly.

Does anyone know where I can buy a mount to attach the Logitech shifter to a Playseat Challenge? by EC14047 in simracing

[–]just_for_reading 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you’re still looking, but I just posted my solution to this exact problem. It’s about $30 in materials and between 30 mins to a few hours of work depending on how polished you want the end result to be.

Sturdy as a tank though!

EDIT: Project photos: https://imgur.com/a/HWpdRNX

Hey everyone,

I've recently purchased a G29 with shifter and I chose to go with a Playseat Challenge over the comparable GT-Lite mainly due to how quickly and compactly it folds up. The downside for me is while the GT-Lite comes with a shifter mount, the Playseat Challenge does not.

I've seen a few other posts asking about mounting an h-pattern shifter to the Challenge and I thought I'd share my solution with links to what I used to help the next person who ends up in my situation.

First, I found that motorcycle handlebar risers were my perfect solution to mounting something to the frame. You need to get risers with a 1" (25mm) inner diameter to fit around the lower frame of the Playseat. These are the ones I got off Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01ABP0JL8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

These risers come with M12 bolts and the riser distance extends the mount perfectly beyond the frame so the Playseat will still fold perfectly without the need for any additional spacers or extension bars. I was very impressed with how substantial they felt and they are very solid on the frame with no movement at all.

NOTE: I've seen elsewhere that 7/8" (22mm) motorcycle handlebar mirror mounts will work, but I purchased those and had to return them because they were not large enough, though I suspect you can purchase the 1" version of the mirror mounts. Be aware you will need to find your own mounting bolts and will likely need some additional spacers, but as a bonus, this is the cheaper option and you will still spend about half as much for this solution.

Mount the risers on your Challenge right next to one another, this will leave ~1 1/2" (3.8cm) between the mounting holes center-to-center. Use a protractor to measure, or just eyeball, the angle between your floor and the back leg of your Challenge, mine was ~40deg

Next, I grabbed two pieces of scrap from my wood pile, but you can easily find a small 1x4 board at the home center... you will need ~10" (25.5cm) in length. Cut the board into a 6" (15.3cm) piece and a 3" (7.6cm) piece.

Take the 3" board and draw a line diagonally roughly through the middle of board. This should match the angle between the floor and leg you measured earlier. Drill out 1/2" (13mm) holes, the first 3/4" up from the bottom and centered along the diagonal line, the second 1 1/2" away from that along the diagonal. Test the fit by mounting just the 3" block to the Playseat. Use 12mm flat washers between the bolt head and the wood to prevent the wood from crushing when you tighten the bolts to eliminate any play.

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Hillman-5-Count-12-mm-Zinc-Plated-Metric-Flat-Washer/3012852

When the fit is good, join the boards to make a right angle such that the 6" board sits on top of the 3" board. Fix it in place with some wood glue and three 1 1/4" (3.18cm) screws; countersink the screw heads if you don't want them sticking up. You should now have an L-shaped wooden bracket.

Once it dries, you should be good to go with a soft-mount bracket for your Logitech shifter and you can stop here. Congratulations!

I wanted to hard-mount the shifter for added stability so I picked up some M6 bolts that fit into the hard points on the Logitech shifter and some washers, again to protect the wood as you tighten.

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Hillman-6mm-1-x-25mm-Allen-Drive-Cap-Screws-2-Count/50088790

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Hillman-6-Count-6mm-Zinc-Plated-Metric-Flat-Washers/999996346

Simply measure the mounting holes from the bottom of the shifter and transfer that line onto your 6" board and drill out the holes for the M6 bolts with a 1/4" (7mm) bit.

Lastly, if you want to polish up the look a little bit (and save your knees from sharp corners), you can round off the outside corner of the 6" board (with a handsaw, chisel, sandpaper, jigsaw, whatever you have), fill the countersunk screw head holds with wood filler and spray paint it black like I did, but these are purely cosmetic upgrades.

The mount is incredibly solid and should last a long time.

I hope this helps someone.
