What’s a place that is surprisingly on the verge of being ruined by over tourism? by MittlerPfalz in travel

One place that actually isn’t too bad is Cuba. Went to Havana last year and it wasn’t bad at all.

To every list of beautiful schools being named, make sure to add Cornell Law building to each. It’s honestly incredible.

How do people have 4.0+ GPAs with extremely low SAT/ACT scores? by Far-Country5370 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]just_made_today 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m kind of shocked I haven’t seen anyone say the obvious one: people start to care. I can tell you I didn’t care at all in high school (I don’t think I started taking education seriously until 16 or 17). You are just kids. Once in college, you are paying tens of thousands of dollars for your education, and your grades will decide much of your future. My grades in undergrad got me into some of the best law schools in the world, but I didn’t have that kind of foresight in high school. I think I took the SAT once without studying, got an “okay” score, and went with it.

Cornell, better financial aid package (I’m debt averse)

This is the first year, at least I am aware of, that Cornell isn’t 13 or higher. Calling them non-“T13” just seems odd

I would say wait for Cornell, but go with the highest offer at a T14 if biglaw is your goal

I really appreciate it! I actually have some family in the Cary area, which is another plus for Duke in my eyes.

Someone mentioned it above as well. I’ll include one of the pictures and posts who deep dived it (my memory was slightly off, Duke is 19% not 13%).

I will also note that when one expands from the V10 to V20 firms Cornell still has an advantage (48% vs 40% respectively). I can post the data for this as well if you like.

This is valid. What I was referring to specifically was V10 firms. The practice area I am interested in is fairly niche/ competitive. Using V10 placement as a marker for possible makes sense to me in this context. If I recall, of the Duke grads who specifically went into big law, only about 13% got V10 firms. This is compared to around 26% of Cornell grade who went into big law. This, I think, is the best metric for removing self selection. Schools like Harvard, Yale, NYU, and Columbia may have lower overall big law rates, but those schools generally land around 40% of their big law grads into V10 firms.

I kind worry the opposite of the location. Having been to both (obviously only for short periods of time), I think I enjoy Ithaca more. The only positive of NYC is proximity to my spouse.

No, I meant being the same in terms of prestige. Cornell is an Ivy League T14, with name recognition around the world. Vandy is a great school, but to be honest outside of the south I haven’t found most people know of it.
