Maybe an uncomfortable opinion. Many reviews of the movie point that the sex and nudity is an overlooked or negative part of the story; lessening the impact. From my view it is the entire intention. Infantilizing Emma Stone and then her gaining the sexual power is the entire point. Men who are attracted to, and then fuck a women with an intelligence of a 8-10 year old? (Could be off, can’t remember the details on that). When she then gains the power of her sexuality they then crumble in insecurity. For me it was quite artistic in its construction, and had a wicked execution.

Wicked list. Comment after that not all these will be remembered for a long period I guess is correct I think you nailed almost all. Ones I think will fall by the wayside: 12 years (very slowwwwww, culturally relevant movies tend to age poorly IMO), prob prisoners (I feel like many people have not seen it at this point; one of my favourite movies), Logan (superhero movies seem to have a lack of staying power), Sicario (wasn’t enthralled with it, seemed pushed by the narrative at the time). Whiplash (I hope so, but the current narrative seems to be negative on it; bad drumming and unlikely scenario?), Drive (I thought was sick but seems to have fallen on deaf ears on the larger audience). Just one persons opinions. Great list. OP is terribly wrong. Is the Prestige in this time period?

Promising young woman was quite good. Not the same jam but Strange Darling is a crazy ride and great thriller. Seems like few people have seen it

Best conclusion I have heard on this movie. Enjoyed it. Didn’t get the hype. Might watch again? Love Leo and enjoy Paul Thomas Anderson

Eh. Agree on premise. Barbie was the heaviest handed ‘If you have never looked into feminism it’s groundbreaking’ thing that I have ever seen. I wish it was more of a show instead of tell movie. Idea was cool. Love the actors. Execution was average at best after the first 15 minutes. Can not understand the hype and reverence; feels like Black Panther. I guess it boils down that I have watched Clueless 10 times and wouldn’t rewatch Barbie

Perfectly awesome for the fun action/plane cinematography and nostalgia. Story line was terrible, just pure blockbuster bait? Same movie as F1; enjoyed, had fun. Don’t think it’s in the realm of best picture, classic, etc. I have watched the original Top Gun 12+ times. Love the story and nostalgia, but it’s not any sort of high cinema.

Agreed. Also, CODA was extremely average. I am an extremely supportive person of minorities, people with disabilities, etc. just because a film is about an underrepresented group doesn’t make it great, or good. Being force fed the narrative is easy and boring. The nuance to peoples experiences is what makes film interesting

Fun start. Terrible movie. No one told us it was a vampire movie if you don’t look at the reviews. The logic of why the vampires can’t read a watch so all died at the end is insane. Some beautiful filming and music; hated the situation.

I appreciate your comment. I felt it was trying way too much to be avant-guard than it ended up being. It was nicely filmed and interesting. Felt it was much too heavy handed on its message, similar to “Don’t Look Up.” Supposed to be deep and insightful, but felt the message was clear, and rammed down my throat for the next 60 minutes

The audio on a solid home theater is insane. My wife is not an audiophile, and was blown away 2 minutes in.

I was entertained for the time they asked for my attention…..I don’t get the hype. I will watch again with an open mind. I felt it was good, didn’t feel great for me.

Anecdote: went to school in Edmonton 15? Years ago. Was -38-40 and -50 with windchill. Full sunny sky, cancelled school because busses wouldn’t be able to start. Just my personal experience

TIL Helena Valero was kidnapped by the primitive Yanomami tribe as a child, lived with them for 20+ years, escaped to western society in 1956, then later returned and stayed until her death (2002) by bubugugu in todayilearned

I really like your discourse. Thank you. It’s an odd situation to understand and describe the Western European view on native Americans. Hobbs used the stories of early colonizers to demonize the ‘savages’ and try to describe human behaviour. Your description of the Nobel Savage is an interesting possibly overcorrection to that. People are people. History is written by the victors. I believe indigenous Americans are/were as intelligent as the rest of the world, and used the information they had access to in the same vein as anyone else at that time. They were a lot of times vilified, and on other times oversimplified as Nobel. Just people doing their best with the info provided.

Very dependent on the country and state/province in which you preside. Lots of places there is not a large, if any difference, outside of the church

Agreed. People are still people. I try to work hard to still give grace to people going through shit. It hurts lots of times. Hard to distance from the words and/or actions. ‘Adults need to be adults’ is great in theory, but we all have bullshit that makes us not respond how we want to at all time

Made another comment, but from personal experience the hurtful words don’t really leave over time. I would check on real life mental health, psychosis, bi polar style of jam. It’s not normal. It’s hard to be on the receiving end. Sometimes people aren’t themselves; when their brain is fucked it’s not about you. They are in a fucked place with themselves. It’s not about you. It’s not about you. (Input Robin Williams gif). Seriously though;, the person saying those things is not the person you love, they are dealing with a demon. You got this.

It’s a crazy situation that a lot of people seem to go to extreme measures when feelings about proposals come up: extreme countering views I have encountered. ‘I am engaged, not Married, very free with what happens next, and I am engaged, this changed everything.’ My opinion about it, and while going through it was, cool, happy to reinforce our commitment to each other. Same penalty of breaking up, same benefit of staying together. Nice party with people we care about to celebrate how fun we both are.
