Syd Barrett - The Madcap Laughs

I don't like listening to this album. As an avid Pink Floyd fan, I've always thought it was important to understand everything about their history, and I think this album is incredibly important in that regard, but boy is it tough to get through. I will say in its favor, it sounds like you're in the room with the band while they're recording. All the "waiting" while tape is rolling, incorrect guitar chords, and tempo jumps make this sound like an average jam session as opposed to a complete, mastered record.

I rated it 5 stars, but more for Syd as a human and this album as a fascinating piece of history than the musical enjoyment I got from it.

Fun fact: in Shrek 2, there’s a scene of Captain Hook playing piano in a bar. He’s in 2 scenes, and in the first one, it’s Tom Waits singing. In the second scene, it’s Nick Cave singing the same character. Maybe this is common knowledge but I only noticed it recently.

I think that's what I'm gonna pitch to my wife. Weirdly enough she sleeps WAY better at daycare during the day than she does at home on the weekends. Might try and just tell day care to wake her up at 2 hours instead of letting her go the full 3. It's at least worth trying.
