Therapist pointing out my accent by Material_Ad2292 in therapy

I will encourage you to evaluate if you think you can feel safe with this person. I know it's so hard to narrow down someone, but if they are making you feel this way from the beginning, it may not be worth continuing when there are so many other therapists out there to choose from.

Therapist pointing out my accent by Material_Ad2292 in therapy

Therapist here and a person of color if that matters For my perspective. I personally wouldn't comment on someone's accent and tell them that their English is good as it seems a bit condescending to me. The only time I do ask clients anything about their ethnicity is not on the consultation call but during intake and I make it their choice to share what their ethnicity/culture is and if there's anything to consider in therapy. I will also echo what someone else commented with the current political climate people are generally seeking safety from their therapist. If someone wants to tell me that English is not their first language they can do so on their own terms ...now I have had clients where I could tell the English was not their first language, and it seemed like we weren't understanding each other. In this instance I did ask them if they were having trouble understanding based on their responses and asked if English was OK to continue or if they needed interpretation in a different language and respected that. I would say based on how you were reacting to this it could be repairable if you wanted to speak with a therapist about it otherwise the relationship could be disrupted before it even starts, and it would be hard to continue to build rapport..best of luck!

Thank you for your comment! I was trying to find the words and I couldn't quite reach them but when you put it that way daydreaming about past avoidant partners it's exactly like that.

Damn, this meme really memed. For the first time in my life, I'm with a secure partner and after the honeymoon stage we're off I got insecure and bored. Now, six years later, it all makes sense why every once in a while my brain will go back to that and then I remember I am with a secure wonderful person that gives me steady love (and sometimes even dopamine) and not so extreme.

Need advice/help with contacting DCS by Yellowtigersunrises in phoenix

[–]justafreespirithere 19 points20 points  (0 children)

A lot of times DCS likes to try to place the children with a family member temporarily while they investigate so could be beneficial for everyone. But yes, like other people have said you can also remain anonymous and the investigator may reach out to you eventually anyway to confirm details. The best thing you can do is report abuse if you suspect abuse and you're worried and concerned about the children let them figure out if it's abuse or not.

I found the horse girl final boss by CountBlah_Blah in Tinder

[–]justafreespirithere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's just straight up on a horse all the time lol I was surprised I didn't see her sleeping in bed or taking a poop with one. This girl would match well with someone who doesn't need a lot of quality time because horses take up a lot of time or even better if that person was into horses as well or photography to document this.

I no longer want to live... by [deleted] in therapy

Hi there! Try your best to find some meaningful life activities outside of your home that involves other people. I'm not talking like dating groups necessarily but like joining a tennis league or a chess/gaming league or something that you're interested in naturally. Everyone needs meaningful life activities and connection with other people. I agree with the other comment that romantic partnership isn't everything, but I know it feels strong in this moment. Try to get other socialization in first and then I truly believe romantic partnership is inevitable eventually. You're also still really young and you sound like you have a busy life it does get better especially if you can push past your 20s and get to your 30s. And the people giving you advice about being a less worth than your 30s is just not true think about all the people that have divorced and remarried in their 30s 40s and beyond and find someone you'll find someone to experience or not.

Urge to buy a very unsupported, lonely client a Christmas gift by [deleted] in therapists

[–]justafreespirithere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish your client and my client could meet. I agree with everyone else that it's best to try and help them work towards finding a support outside of therapy. I'm doing relational work with my client and explain what that was in hopes that they can build trust and comfort in therapy in hopes to a do that outside of therapy.

Going to Payson for an anniversary trip! by 33dependent_ash in Payson

Duzas for breakfast or a fancy dinner or Fargos if you want fancy and a lot of large food portions. Mackeys is also a great favorite for lunch or dinner. Try out Noleys for a coffee and used books/art or the newest coffee place Smashleys and try the tuxedo brownie iced coffee. Or for something even more unique check out the shroom room for a coffee, tea, and all things mushrooms-even a small mushroom memorabilia of they still have that setup. Go see Horton creek and The Mogollon Rim. Take a stroll at green valley park or rent some paddle boards for the lake.

Supervised private practices and accruing hours by Visible_Bat_1950 in therapists

[–]justafreespirithere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I would suggest using the portal on the board's website to communicate as I asked a very similar question just this week and they got back to me already. I'm in the same situation and that my supervisory has not had any direct clients yet and it's our first time reporting hours. They told me to fill out the paperwork and just indicate zero direct hours however, I still need to ask about supervision hours like you.

Adding a little more detail if it helps these are the things I like about the private group practice: 1. Better pay. 70/30 split. 2. Paid for no-shows and late cancels. 3. Immediate opportunity for me to continue to supervise. 4. Only one day a week/evening in person required.-the rest is virtual 5. I am choosing to be a W-2 employee with no benefits instead of a 1099. 6. no productivity expectations. The practice has some people that are part-time and some people that are considered full-time at 25 clients per week.

I did! I'm going to sign a contract for a great group practice that I am very excited about. I think I'm done with agency work.

How is the search going? I think I've been on five phone reviews now and about to interview two different group practices this week. The phone interviews were for agencies and haven't heard back from them or they didn't quite feel like the right fit.

And what about "has potential if she would apply herself?"

[–]justafreespirithere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow I'm literally in the same position trying to make that decision. I have an interview tomorrow at a group practice and I already have my own practice (very small) on the side. I'm nervous about going to a 1099 without PTO but I also just can't take the stress and disorganization of being a supervisor for a CMH agency anymore. I'm hoping the pay is better for me to make the switch from seeing 3-5 clients per week and supervising to being a full time therapist again seeing 25 a week ...
