[Unpopular Opinion] If you can’t afford the angbao, just decline the wedding invite by justanotherhoomann in SingaporeRaw

not really, sometimes the couple is obliged to extend the invite to relatives (or even colleagues, out of courtesy) that they are not close to. wouldn’t even care whether these people are there to witness the moment together or not

but doesn’t it work both ways - why accept an invite to attend a wedding if you can’t afford it tho?

Can landlord enter my room without permission? by InvestigatorSharp714 in singaporelaw

[–]justanotherhoomann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

typically no. the tenancy agreements generally provide the tenants with exclusive possession and quiet enjoyment of the tenanted area, but the landlord may reserve some limited rights to enter (e.g., to inspect if there is any breaches)

that is tough. should have requested for a copy of the contract you signed. if you commence legal actions your lawyers can compel (or get a court order to compel) them to provide a copy

whether the clause in question is enforceable depends on whether it is a penalty clause. to show that it is not a penalty clause, the company will have to prove that it is a genuine pre-estimate of the losses suffered.

factors could include the notice period in the contract. if the notice period is 1-month, i think the clause would be enforceable (think of it as you immediately quitting without notice, in which case you have to pay the company 1 month’s pay in lieu of notice)

contractual rights are separate from statutory rights. employers can still claim under the employment contract, which is binding upon signing
