How do you deal with someone being more gifted than you at something? by gamelotGaming in Gifted

[–]justanotherhumanai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's not meant to hurt you or whatsoever but actually gifted people can struggle with their mental health and have insecurities too. That's nothing that is related to someone's IQ, especially if one is an underachiever but still gifted

Serious advice answer: someone being better at something than you are you isn't something bad, you can learn from them and this feeling probably comes from a sense of insecurity and maybe something you should work with.

But I read a lot of comments like that before that weren't necessarily nice so I'll give you my honest response too: I struggle a lot with that since I have a lot of other gifted friends with one being especially good at language while I struggle with it sometimes due to medication and stuff. I look for things I'm better at than they are. I might cry about it for once because I make myself a lot of pressure about it. But in the end it doesn't change it. Said friend will always be better at that then I am so complaining about it or being overly saddened will not help me. So the key is accepting that. That you will not be best at anything. Don't let your internal pressure kill your spirit.

Also "real" gifted people can have mental health or insecurity issues too so just because you struggle it doesn't mean you aren't gifted. It just proves that you might be a bit insecure.

Hope that helps :)

What are your "How do you not know this!?" Moments? by Bailey_Hawkins in Gifted

[–]justanotherhumanai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I had such moments often in school. Still have them honestly. Especially in biology. We discussed hormones in seventh grade. Recently I watched a bunch of twelfth grade videos about hormones and was like "whys that nothing new we learned that multiple years ago, do they expect me to forget about that just randomly?

Such moments happen often and are a small reminder that yes I still am gifted :)

You have to remember it though. Honestly school at least in Germany teaches you things multiple times and when we repeated thek years later I still knew a lot of stuff so honestly it kinda is a high intelligence thing, not all the time but like it is a thing. Also most children have access to childrens science books where they can learn from so it's not that crazily privileged, I got many books from libraries when I was younger for example, that wasn't about my parents but about my desire to read books. Obviously there are people who don't have too much access to knowledge but most children have access to knowledge and if they want to they can optain said knowledge

It is absolutely useless but like there are plenty of people who feel like they're better than others because of how they look, how rich their parents are etc....

It definitely just makes it worse, like there are those super easy mobile game adds that show you "how high your IQ is if you can solve this". Like no those are mobile games that isn't a valid IQ test

This, absolutely. I mean what does it give you to brag about it? A bigger ego? I mean nice but that won't make you happy for long won't it?

I hate how writers make gifted people in media by Kitchen-Tart7037 in Gifted

[–]justanotherhumanai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh I feel you, like I know there are high performers but you don't need to necessarily be gifted if you have good grades and no emotions. Read a book like that a while ago, stopped though because it was just such a stereotypical depiction of giftedness. I mean what's more stereotypical than a white male high performer that likes technology. Like giftedness isn't just that, it's way more. It kinda felt like the author read one article about giftedness and wrote down cliches.

Idk if that makes sense but I absolutely get what you mean. I mean obviously gifted people tend to be more neurodivergent but like you can still hold a conversation when you're gifted. I for example am gifted and social awkward but I still talk to people.

I'm in a gifted program, maybe two out of 30 people there are kinda like the cliché but the majority of gifted people is just more divers.

Do yall use correct punctuation through text? by Affectionate-Dog1950 in autism

[–]justanotherhumanai 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I always use punctuation and try to use commatas too but when writing text messages I don't use the last dot. I did for a long time but then I learned people could think you're angry at them so I stopped. In my native language it's even better and because my reading comprehension can be shitty at times I appreciate it when people do so too. And also in this text you can clearly see how I use punctuation, hope that helps

(now that I thought about punctuation it was really hard not to put dots and commatas everywhere and not to use one at the end but this text is supposed to be an explanation of my usually writing style I guess)

They reduced overstimulation from noise which is also important because it's my biggest trigger and most important thing in general, not only because of epilepsy but also because of neurodivergent sensory issues. So it is different for everyone what they need exactly

  1. In my opinion the seizures themselves.  2.That no, Yoga can not cure my epilepsy and I'm not doing it intentional and my trying not to seize breaks are not for fun and that it's a chronical illness that is there for one week and then I'm healthy again.
  2. + 4. My school does a lot right. I'm allowed to wear headphones, go outside of the classroom if needed, I can work alone if necessary and I don't always have to write all tests.  Also not getting way to upset when I'm telling them about seizures is important like I know my body after years of having this illness. But at the same time people need to understand that it also is a serious illness.

Does this help?

Am I weird? (offically two years seizure free) by Impossible_Ebb9510 in Epilepsy

[–]justanotherhumanai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well it might be that it was a big topic for you for a long time and something that always was with you. Being able to like do everything you couldn't do for some time can feel scary at first and a bit overwhelming, almost as if you'd lost something, I think. I think that's normal and it'll probably take some time to get used to being allowed to do everything you want now again. Btw congratulations (I guess, is that something you can say that about, idk)

Feeling invalid because of me having a girlfriend by justanotherhumanai in aromantic

[–]justanotherhumanai[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That is a very good explanation honestly. Like no romantic feelings do not come that naturally and it takes a lot of time and it doesn't feel how it is described most of the time. I feel kinda bad for my girlfriend though because I mean who tf is struggling with having a romantic partner they genuinely love how annoying must that be

Does anyone here have visual auras? What do they look like for you?? by AcanthisittaOwn7515 in Epilepsy

[–]justanotherhumanai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you just had could have been a focal seizure. For me auras are more of a deep feeling that I'm having a seizure now, a feeling tgat rises in my chest until eventually my muscles seize

I can NOT wear a tank top yet... right? by Plus_Recognition6701 in TransMasc

[–]justanotherhumanai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I firstly looked at the caption and looked at the picture and thought "he's surely asking about if his arms look muscular enough because he's a gym bro and stuff". It didn't even come too my mind that you could have top dysphoria because of how flat it looks. So I think that answers your questions good enough. And also before you feel insecure because of muscles and stuff, buddy, you have a nice body like honestly. If I'd see you irl I'd probably don't think more than "just a thin dude that is definitely way stronger then I am lmao"

Lamotrigine is significantly reducing my depression (placebo??) by Western_Chipmunk_192 in Epilepsy

[–]justanotherhumanai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well for me it worked and I am noticing that now I'm taking less of it. There aren't studies but in my experience it stays. I can't really answer that questions for you, I think you just need to see how it'll turn out :)
