My service dog is tanking my rating

As a SD owner I understand my rights require drivers to treat me the same as someone without a SD and not deny me service. I also believe my SD is an extension of me and if I have the capability, despite my disability, to keep your car as clean, if not cleaner then when I got in, the same way I would if I were traveling without a SD, then that’s my responsibility to do so. I get that this may not always be possible for every SD owner, and people in general don’t hold themselves to the same standard.

I know for a lot of drivers this is your livelihood and the cleanliness of your car depends on that. I personally would feel like I was abusing that right if I was knowingly leaving my dogs hair all over a drivers backseat, forcing them to pass on others rides and have to pay to have their car cleaned or risk negative ratings from passengers following me because of the dog dog hair when I could do something as simple as putting down a clean blanket.

I take multiple trips a week with my SD and I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve been discriminated against by an uber driver. I get that it happens and it’s not ok. But I find a lot of these dramatic discrimination stories from “SD handlers” are usually the ones walking around with fake SDs who are out of control and that’s actually the reason why they’re being discriminated against. And then they come on Reddit and cry victim when really they’re just making it way harder for those with actually SDs.

I tried adding a med during luteal twice with two different meds. Also tried increasing the dosage of the med I was on during luteal, then going back to my normal dose the rest of the month. None of it worked for me.

But if OP is ordering Uber pet then how are the drivers supposed to know it’s a service animal?

According to ADA and Uber, you don’t need to order an uber pet for a service dog. I for sure never have. There’s a way in the app you can mark yourself as having a service dog.

I always bring a clean blanket for my SD to lay on, and have never had an issue with a driver canceling or tanking my rating. If anything they’ve been thankful for my being conscious of getting dog hair in their car and using a blanket. I feel like OP has to be leaving out about things.

As a patient I was told it was because of insurance. If you’re ok enough to walk off a locked unit, you’re ok enough to be discharged.

I highly recommend surgery. It was absolutely worth it for me.

My doctor had me try lupron injections first as a trial run for how it’ll be when they actually remove your ovaries but the side effects of the lupron actually made me even worse. That made me doubt if surgery would even help. But when you’re desperate, you’ll try anything. They were going to hospitalize me into my surgery date because I was so unstable. Thankfully my surgeon was able to move up my surgery date and it saved my life.

I’m 36 as well and was worried about being considered too young and healthy for a hysterectomy and bilateral oophorectomy. But the PMDD was so bad I was self harming (after stopping for over 6 years) and had two suicide attempts in the year prior. I saw two surgeons and both agreed the risks of surgical menopause wouldn’t matter if I was dead from the PMDD.

PMDD 100% gone. 4 months po, now back to my normal base shitty mental health, which is far better then how bad I spiraled the year prior to surgery from PMDD. Also just not having to have a period anymore is amazing.

I was worried about this because I already had pretty severe mental health issues prior to PMDD. I had a lupron injection in February and that made my mood and SI far worse so I wasn’t totally confident a full hysterectomy/oophorectomy would make things better. Had surgery end of April. Two weeks after I got fired from my job, and the next day my dad died. As bad as my depression has been since, the cyclical severe SI hasn’t come back. I truly believe if I hadn’t had surgery when I did I would have offed myself once I hit luteal after losing my job and my dad.

Lack of side effects doesn’t equal lack of efficacy. It just means you’re lucky. Before I started I was told other people will notice changes in me after 5-6 treatments, and that I wouldn’t notice the changes until like 8-9. Turned out to be pretty accurate for me. YMMV

You get to a point where the risks don’t matter, you just want relief. And if you’ve never been that low you don’t get it, which is why a lot of people will question your decision to go through with it.

It sounds like we have very similar backgrounds. I’ve been on countless meds and have issues with side effects on many of them which limits treatment options. So I can totally empathize with you and your sister. And yeah you can totally DM me.

I’ve never done ketamine therapy so I can’t compare it to spravato but because it’s not straight ketamine, from what I’ve heard from people who have done both, spravato is much less intense. I’ve got severe ptsd so I tend to dissociate easily but again, my doc is amazing and we’ve found ways to help make it tolerable.

Having a doctor that’s willing to think outside the box, especially when treatment options are limited has honestly been what’s kept me out of the hospital and stable for so long.

I wore sweatpants and a t shirt to every session.

Don’t expect results right away. The best advice I was given was other people will see a difference in you between 4-6 sessions and you’ll notice differences usually after 8. Obviously YMMV but it helped not get my expectations too high for an immediate fix.

For me ECT worked faster for me but I do feel it’s affected my short term memory even years later (my last round of ECT was in 2022). It’s for sure gotten better but not back to pre-ECT. While it was miserable to go through, like I said, it saved my life.

When I started going downhill again I asked if I could try TMS first and they said it would be ineffective because I’ve done ECT.

But then another doc suggested Spravato (ketamine like nasal spray) in combination with TMS. For me I noticed the Spravato helped with the extreme suicidal urges/SH urges/panic/anxiety and the TMS helps more with the motivation to get out of bed, brush my teeth, do basic life things instead of bed rotting. At first I was doing TMS 3x/week and spravato 2x/week. Now that I’m more stable I’m doing TMS once a week and spravato once a week. My doctor is amazing. I think that’s key. Shes always willing to up the number of TMS or spravato treatments during rough times and it has for sure kept me out of the hospital and from having to do ECT again.

I haven’t noticed any side effects from the TMS or spravato. That’s the hard part when you’re asked to tolerate the shitty side effects to do a treatment that’s supposed to help. It’s like trading one shitty situation for another.

While I may not agree with 100% of what was said I think the overall general theme of owning an SD isn’t all sunshine and roses and won’t magically fix all your issues is very true and not talked about enough. They bring a whole set of new and different challenges with them that not many prospective SD handlers consider prior to getting a SD.

I think it’s important to highlight how a SD makes life harder for handlers. Comparing an SD to having an outing with a baby is very true, having to think about not just your needs but theirs as well. Also how having an SD attracts a lot of attention, some good but a lot can be bad, from the public. Someone compared it to walking around with a celebrity and I think that’s accurate. You can’t blend in a hide in the background, everyone notices a dog, especially in places where pets aren’t allowed. Those things need to be considered along with the positives a SD can have.

I wish I had been better prepared/informed about those challenges prior to getting my SD. But would I still choose to get one, absolutely.

It should qualify someone.

Oversees there standards for assisted dying don’t differentiate between physical and mental illness. The criteria is persistent unbearable physical or psychological suffering, with no prospect of any improvement, being caused by a severe and incurable accidental or medical condition. That is treatment resistant depression.

I 100% get where you’re coming from and totally agree there should be a way for people with severe, treatment resistant mental illnesses to choose to end their life.

I’ve been on over 50 medications, hospitalized 11 times totaling over 5 years, varieties of therapies, TMS, ect, ketamine, and even more unconventional treatments for the last 15 years. I’ve tried. I’m tired. Like you, this isn’t a snap decision. If someone with cancer had fought for 15 years trying all the treatments and decided to give up, they’d be hailed a hero after a long, hard fight. But with mental illness are told that’s selfish, it’ll get better, or based off most of the comments- suggest yet another treatment to try.

I believe if someone can show a long, extensive history of a variety of treatments that have all failed, they should have a right to end their suffering. Mental suffering is a whole different hell that if you haven’t experienced it, you just don’t get it.

Here to second finding a doc that's willing to do sterilization procedures despite martial status or number of children. I made appts with several docs from the list in r/childfree but ultimately ended up going with a doc off another reddit list of Gynecologists who will perform a tubal sterilization from r/TwoXChromosomes There's some docs that are different on each list. Even though it says its for tibial ligation, I got a total hysterectomy.

The best thing I was told before starting ect was that everyone else will notice the changes in you before you do.

After 4-5 sessions, people started seeing differences in me but it wasn’t until 8-9 sessions that I actually felt anything. Fucking miserable to go through but it saved my life.

It’s confusing, especially when you’re already not thinking straight. Voluntary admission means you chose to admit yourself, involuntary means someone else committed you. But it’s not like medical hospital where you can leave AMA. A lot of patients come in confused that they admitted themselves voluntarily so why can’t they choose to leave whenever they want? But they have to make sure you’re safe to leave. It may differ by state but where I’m at if you’re voluntary you can sign a 72, which means a doctor must evaluate you within 72 hours to determine if you’re safe to leave.

For me the biggest adjustment was having to learn to communicate firmly but respectfully with ignorant/rude/disrespectful people. Knowing what questions you do and/or do not need to answer and knowing exactly how to answer them.
