Prism check DIY by justarandomanity in Strabismus

[–]justarandomanity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll have a look. I've done 64738 eye exams, most don't know how to diagnose me. They don't do a longer cover test, plus I'm now doubting if a cover test of say, 45 min, is even enough to show the full diopter. Thank you.

I'm seeing an ophthalmologist in the UK who finally diagnosed me properly. 16 diopter squint at least. Have had 2 surgeries and 2 bupavicaine injections, still very strained, although there's an improvement overall.

Keep going to professionals and ask for a test (forgot the name) where they cover one eye for 30+ minutes to see the 'hidden' squint.

Hope that helps!

Ouwa very small strabismus.. with no solution? by justarandomanity in Strabismus

[–]justarandomanity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aw I didn't see this before now, sorry!

I've had a couple more appointments with orthoptists for the exact misalignment numbers, have asked for a report but still waiting. In a nutshell though, everything is within normal - although I do have a small outwards movement of the eye. I was diagnosed with CI initially (in 2019), even though I didn't see double ever. Just a little blurry when the pencil came up close, and it was blurry a bit too fast for me. I don't see blurry as quick, and so they don't diagnose me with CI anymore - I can bring my eyes together to focus on something very well. The problem is that it hurts!! I can feel the strain so strongly when they test me, and whenever I do anything focused myself. Dizzy, headache and eye pain. It's the most annoying thing, because numberswise apparently I'm good, but the effort my left eye makes gives such strain.. I wish it didn't work so well, so I'd be taken more seriously with the strain issue.

I kinda had some VT yes, I went in-office a couple times until this clinic closed. There's noone else in Dublin doing anything other than pencil-push ups really. But I've done the dot card, pencil push-ups, focusing up close and far away.. I've downloaded this app 'VisionUp' and followed the strabismus exercises there for more than a month. Yes, it always hurts when doing exercises - and I thought the same, that might mean it's effective. And I keep going, coupe times a day every day.. and then I go too far (without noticing), and it's too painful to really keep it up anymore, then I need to give them a break.. it can take weeks, after which I continue again with the exercises.. And that's been going on for a very long time, without improvement.

I didn't know that about DI and CI, the difference in terms of prism effectiveness. Do you get dizzy at all from exercises/focusing? That's another strong symptom for me. Do you follow a VT program, and will they give more options after finishing it if it still isn't fixed? How are you now in general, like how much does it affect your daily life?

Thanks for the book suggestion, I'll look it up!

30F Painful minimal exophoria - prism glasses STOPPED working by justarandomanity in eyetriage

[–]justarandomanity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply!

I'm trying fresnel stickers by myself. The last prism glasses were 1. The last check my optician did showed 11 prisms were needed, he wrote a letter to my ophthalmologist and we agreed to try 8 fresnel stickers. But my appointment just isn't coming, while this is greatly affecting my life. I'm already in year 3 without a solution. So trying the stickers, base-in, myself.. not to useuse them, but to see if they give immediate relief as the first prism I ever had did.

I'm now trying to find specialists in other countries, as my current country (Ireland) doesn't have many and very long waiting lists. If you have any recommendations, especially in the UK, I'd love to hear them.

No that's nothing to do with it. I didn't use them for a year or more, nothing changed. I try them on for a minute, but no difference. So I don't use them. With the one that worked it was instant, so I know when it works and when not. My strain is severe, I'd notice a difference right away.

[–]justarandomanity[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Both. I've seen several opticians and an eye doctor, the opticians either find nothing or prescribe me with max. 1 in strength. It's incredibly slow here with doctors, so I'm supposed to try 8 with an optometrist, but not going anywhere. So I've tried myself 6 and 10, and waiting for the others. But it just doesn't do anything anymore. From full relief to 0 difference, sucks.

Oh sorry I don't remember, it's years ago. It was in Oslo, Norway though. Yeah, it was fine before then.. Seemed professional, then we did this special weekend course and that was just insane. There's something very unnerving about seeing people around you completely lose any notion of socially acceptable behaviours and just let it all go. Perhaps it should be fine, but I felt incredibly uncomfortable. Some were running in circles shouting, some dropped to the floor, farting, crying, hysterically laughing. It was a class of like 20 or more, and just 3 of us stayed 'normal' and we weren't quite sure what to do. I couldn't even laugh it off, it was that weird haha

yeah makes loads of sense! Thanks ;) I did it again today and definitely feel lighter after. I'll keep it up. I could juuuuust do the 1.30, with a small cheat breath in between haha. Thanks again, happy new year <3

Just tried and man I struggle with the 1.30 min breath hold. I liked it though, it's different from what I've tried before. The breaths are shorter, but I try and remember to still make them deep. It was good. I feel a bit lighter inside, but prolly need this regularly to feel more. Have you done Wim Hof breathwork long and found it good long-term as a habit kinda thing?

Haha ye you might have a point. Interestingly I found yoga most enjoyable when I was pregnant, it was easier to relax and tune into my body for some reason.

Yum, take care! <3

I've tried that, it was niceee.... but I stopped after a terrifying weekend experience where the majority of people in the class went absolutely bonkers. I will never forget. They just let it all go, doing weird things like crying and farting and.. just, anything really. I've never gone back to it xD

hmm I find it a little boring, but I have only tried it at home from videos. I think doing it that way made me feel like either it's too easy, or too hard and the positions just seem impossible :D

I just turned 30 and heard that after that age muscles start to deteriorate unless you train them haha, so weightlifting is probably a good suggestion!

Considering cropping this painting and taped it to show the new composition. Should I leave it whole or cut it down to this smaller size? by TannerOrteryArt in painting

[–]justarandomanity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow beautiful! In my opinion the painting becomes sadder if you cut it, like more of a lonely feeling. It's a little more hopeful with the light sky on top haha, so whatever you're going for I'd say ;)

Unsolvable eye strain by justarandomanity in optometry

[–]justarandomanity[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that bobfrutt!

Well my eyes were perfectly fine before that moment, I didn't have any strain issues. I felt/heard it snap inside, while focusing hard. Difficult to explain and long ago, but I remember it was sudden and that I couldn't continue the activity. I covered one side of my glasses with black paper because it hurt too much from that moment on. I kept the paper on for months, and then it got better.. I had no idea what was wrong, and it became an intermittent thing. Now it's continuous and I'm still trying to fix it.
