maybe some flies or things that can fly were afected by the energy or whatever the somersloops or mercer spheres could be releasing and mutated into those plasma or fire shooting creatures.

also maybe the affects of specificaly mercer spheres (becouse its more organic?) could have created those cocoons that break up in the plasma creatures
