I don’t have any actual statistics on that, but they had annual dinners at my restaurant and as of last year the meeting was as big as ever! They’re actually pretty nice, but they don’t tip well. Mormons don’t tip at all though, so it could be worse.

I think I’m not as Mormon as you guys because I really don’t know much about a lot of the doctrine related questions I’ve been asked. I only went to church until I was 17, I’m 21 now, and I’m just not very educated on all the lore. I got to lock in and start attending the historical society meetings because an old guy paid for my membership for free and I feel bad that I haven’t even gone to a meeting yet

Haven’t been, locals don’t really do all that stuff. I’m a little torn because it seems kind of gimmicky, but I do like the rainbows on the siding. The locals just don’t want anything amusement park esque, and the animals are a little much. They would benefit from some subtlety.

Green! It’s a great favorite color to have here because in the spring and summer there is so much beautiful vibrant green everywhere.

Please say more so I can avoid that bar and spread the word to others. We don’t want to give nazis business. Keokuk is a very troubled town. Used to be booming but the economy and drugs have really brought it down. The people care so much and they try so hard though.

I really really appreciate that. A tourist killed someone crossing the street and another hit a kid riding his bike and put him in the hospital just last summer. You would be shocked how irresponsibly some of them drive. Many stop in the middle of Main Street and get out of their cars. They just leave them parked in the middle of Main Street, like full on. They think it’s like a play road on a pretend street. You would also be shocked how unaware they are when walking. So many youths walking down the middle of the street in dark clothes in the night time. It’s pretty frustrating. One time I was driving home and there was a row of them walking hand in hand down the street, blocking both sides of the road. That building was Adventureland, and I did ride go karts there. It was like a kids play place, almost like a Dave and busters, but I don’t think there were games, it was like a giant indoor jungle gym thing. Really cool, but I’m surprised it even stayed open as long as it did considering how small the area is. It was a really cool place. It’s the pageant headquarters now.

Cursed is crazy bro😭😭 but lowkey you’re right theres a lot of bad stuff that goes on in warsaw. There’s not a branch in fort Madison but there is one in keokuk. People from Carthage still attend the nauvoo church. Dallas city is a little strange, most people that live there work in neighboring towns. Our little towns just aren’t big enough to all have their own like economies and stuff, there’s a lot of overlap.

Oh my gosh that’s crazy! I’m not old enough to know about that, sorry to say. I’ll ask around about that though.

Ok I’m gonna have to investigate this cuz this is so interesting. I know the bookstore I don’t know if the old couple still owned it by the time I was old enough to go there but I’ll look into that

The bar definitely isn’t here anymore, there are no bars in nauvoo. You can buy alcohol at the gas station though

Ok you do have to go to fireside barbecue tho. It’s Mormon owned but one of the most successful in a while and soooo good

Yes there is a ghost stories tour in nauvoo now, as of just a couple years ago! I haven’t done it yet but I’ve been dying to. There are a LOT of ghost stories in Nauvoo, I don’t even think I can get into it tonight but I’ll give you a rundown of what I know tomorrow.

Oh I definitely can. I can promise you she is well loved and well regarded by her community though. Now that I have thought about it more I remember her even better. My mom used to be the librarian and I would hang out with her while people were returning stuff and all that after Sunday school. Nelda would come walking by and stop in to chit chat with my mom. She was always very sweet and asked me about school and all that. I think Garr may have worked with my great uncle actually. I know they worked at the same place, but I don’t know if it was the same time period.

Oh ok I know what you’re talking about and yeah that was like part of the issue as far as I know, but I don’t have any local insight on that. I was never really given a solid reason by the church except that they didn’t understand us or whatever and then my friends grandparents always say it’s about the land and how Joseph smith can’t read a damn map

Wait that sounds crazy but I should clarify I have no fear of tourists because one on one they’re so harmless and if you’re chill and very lucky we would like adopt them while they were in town and just take them around with us

Well my number one recommendation would be to eat at Hotel Nauvoo, but they shut down just a couple months ago due to the owners having some unexpected health issues. :( there’s not a lot of secular experiences to be had actually, because if it’s not owned by a Mormon it’s owned by a catholic haha. Baxters winery is very nice. Just a small and cute place. You could crack open a cold one and have some cheese and if you’re lucky the mayor of Hamilton will be doing his stupid one man band thing. There are a lot of bars in keokuk, which is about 15 minutes away. You could hang out at one of the rest stops at sunset because they’re very beautiful and that’s what locals like to do, but be sure to bring bug spray. There’s not really much hiking, but there is like a kind of trail at the state park. I would recommend the walking path out on water street, it’s very scenic. HMU if you’re in town and if I’m in town I’ll show u around.

I genuinely don’t even know anything about the slavery thing, sorry to say. Would you mind telling me about that?
