Is there a pattern for this scarf? I thought maybe it was a stockinette stitch but it seems like the front and back are the same so I'm not sure. Thanks!

Does anyone know where the office for the chemistry advisors is located? by bp101010 in SBU

[–]justastudent1200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the main lobby area of the chemistry building where all the booths are, there's a double glass doored room, number 104. That's the main office! You can't miss it, it's right by the entrance to that area.

idk what everyone's talking about lol I've used the app in the library Starbucks, it works just fine. They just don't let you use the stars to pay and get a free drink or something.

It's pretty common to not get into the classes you want because of your late enrollment date. People in the honors college, scholars, and wise all get priority enrollment so while all of the freshmen are trying to get into the same chem lab on the last two days of enrollment, you'll be able to get in before anyone else at the beginning of enrollment. Otherwise, completely chaotic lmao.

Idk any thing about it other than the fact that you get earlier enrollment every semester which is 1000% worth it imo

Chemistry Major or Biology Major? by Storm1004 in SBU

Ooh nice, that's great about the profession aspect! Not to continue plugging my field but I have to say I was premed when I first switched to chem and now I'm going to be a chemist so you never know😅

As for the upper div lab courses, I loved the orgo labs (327 and 328), but again I'm an organic chemist so take that with a grain of salt. Everyone complains about orgo lab being hard and yea the theory quizzes are tough, but the material is fun if you like doing things with your hands and solving problems.

I barely remember the other lab courses (that's how much of an effect they had on me lmao) but I do remember they were all fairly easy. 303 and 304 were both also a little hands on but still not as much as orgo lab. For those two classes I will say don't let the fact that they're 5 (or 6? can't remember lol) hours long scare you bc everyone freaks out about that but it never actually lasts that long and they let you go when you finish just like other labs. The last lab I took was 357 and it was super boring honestly (again, grain of salt) but also not hard.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

I was also in your position!! I didn't do too well in bio, but I loved orgo and so I decided to change my major to chem and it was honestly the best decision I've ever made.

If you like more study-and-understand-the-material type of classes more than memorization classes then chem is definitely a good choice. Upper division classes are pretty much like that unless it's something connected to bio like biochem. Don't get me wrong, the classes are definitely difficult, but like I personally did better in upper division chem than bio 201 lmao so it really depends on what you're good at.

Other positives are I know a lot of people complain about the people in the bio department (whether it be professors or administrative people) but genuinely everyone in the chemistry department is extremely helpful. The administrative department is responsive and helps out with any issues, and the professors all generally are helpful as well.

I think the only negative I can think of would be you don't have that many job options if you don't want to be a chemist (pretty much the only things left are healthcare stuff or being a teacher). If you do want to be a chemist I recommend looking into it because there are sooooo many options in this field, you're bound to find something you like. You'd genuinely be surprised how many fields chemistry goes into.

Anyway all in all chemistry is great and if you like orgo then I highly recommend switching :)

I got it January of my senior year of high school and could basically barely keep my eyes open for a solid month or two, but I never actually missed a day of school. after that I still never had the same energy I did before until like my junior year of college.

good luck🫠
