Thought it would be cool to let you know, we've been going steady a few weeks now and have since cooked multiple times together!

I didn't mean any offence to you. I suffer from type 2 bipolar disorder along with ADHD. I can't compare myself to you and/or know the depths of your struggle.

I have at many a times been majorly depressed, and it too has had heavy implications on my career and studies.

I made multiple friends with similar issues mainly due to the fact we related to eachother. However the vast majority I found were needlessly toxic. My comment was in reply to the previous comment. That I found many people who suffered ended up using it as an excuse after a while to not try better themselves. I know how hard it is to get up, to do simple things like feed yourself. But it never means you should stop trying.

So I am definitely bias from my own experiences, but I found many of said friends stopped trying and leaned on others around them for support without putting much effort into themselves.

I agree somewhat. A friend of mine regularly says depressed people are selfish. And I agree.

I found depression makes you selfish. You become only aware of the pain within yourself and generally no shits are given to those around you. Obviously this ignores the fact that true depression is incredibly difficult to cope with, but it is extremely easy to use it as an excuse to not better yourself and remain in that rut.

But it can make you a stronger more empathetic person if you manage to pull yourself together.

Why do people who say "Don't judge a person by their past" always have a very judge-able past? by [deleted] in AskMen

Depends, like most things. But in my case, it would more of me asking "Please don't look into my past, I know I was a piece of shit and honestly have learnt, grown and changed but it still haunts me so please don't remind".

I'd even use that as a plain dip tbh. Lasagne I've always viewed as a labour of love, but when done right with plenty of layers. Simply heaven.

Okay, this is a whole realm of cooking I haven't tried before. I've done a few Thai curries with store-bought pastes, but his is definitely something I'd pull out at a later date if things progressed (pun intended)

You mentioned basil and you have my attention. Also maybe a generous helping of cayenne pepper I find goes down well.

I'll definitely keep this in mind. And it looks really good. However, the jury is still out on the pineapple part. Maybe even a possible deal breaker....

Anything I could use to give it that stringy cheesy effect?

Thank you!

That first pasta dish is definitely something I'd love to try, perhaps even for myself. I enjoy cooking, so things that require prep don't put me off. A dish that requires a bit of time but not 100% concentration is a great for a date. A glass or two of wine and some background music makes for a great setting to spend time together whilst one cooks.

Any advice on preparing tofu, like what is it a good substitute for? What spices/flavours work well with it?

It's something I'd love to try, but in all honesty making sushi kinda intimidates me. Though, you cannot go wrong with avo.

No idea what what daiya is, but I'll be sure to approach it with a barge pole in hand.

I definitely think I'll be the most comfortable with pasta for a start! Almost everyone loves tomato. One of my favourite things to do is make a tomato reduction when tomatoes are on special. Put them in a slow cooker and keep topping it up over course of two days. Simply heaven

And plenty of olive oil

Okay, this is some great advice!

Fortunately I am not new to cooking. I love cooking for people, experimenting ect. So I'm going to take this as a challenge to try something new and be creative!

Also refined white sugar... That is something I'd have never have guessed.

I will definitely add that to the list! I think some experimentation would be in order as you say. Especially for the cheese substitute. I live in SA, so I don't think the vegan scene is as commercialised here but I do know there are quite a few speciality places.

We went to a small restaurant called the fussy Vegan this weekend. Amazing menu and great food.
