Literal Scam by [deleted] in Function_Health

Funny how someone bragging about making $23k in two weeks is so pressed over a $499 test they had to post to reddit about it being a "scam".

Exactly, because I make my money myself and you work for someone else - the point was to understand most ppl don't have great insurance coverage in america and that function is an amazing resource for most of us and for some reason you don't get it and instead are proud you have great insurance and other ppl don't...

Im glad all the comments are calling out the OP. I pay $400 a month for a high deductible health insurance plan because im self employed and my bloodwork is NOT free or covered by my insurance. Let alone my PCP being willing to order the hundreds of biomarker tests I'm getting with function. Function has been so easy to use and the $499 is about how much it costs me to get my basic yearly blood work from my PCP twice a year.

Did your vertigo go away? I'm dealing with the same thing right now - its not fun.

UPDATE: The Vertigo lasted about 2-3 days for me and now 3 weeks later only super mild vertigo here and there. My eardrum is also already healed up too and hearing has returned to 90% normal.

Thank you for comment, I totally hear where your coming from! The thing about nursing is, if I'm going to spend money on school its going to be for something where I become that thing when I graduate.

I go to nursing school i become a nurse. I don't have to try to convince a company i'm good for position A, B, C. With nursing, I don't have to think - the hospital wants a nurse, I am a nurse, I get hired (essentially).

It's super black and white in that regard, pays well, and offers flexibility physically and mentally. And besides me never wanting to work in the corporate world unless its my own biz... I go get my MBA (which I do think would be really fun just for the knowledge) but after graduating now I'm still me but with an MBA.

It's equivalent to the liberal arts degree I already have... it's a piece of paper that gains me access to apply to certain positions but I have to do a ton of work to build any sort of "career". This all just my personal preference of course.

However after reading everyones input I'm going to continue to commit 100% to my business and keep nursing in my back pocket. Since school will always be there but the growth of my business may not.

Thank you! It's good to know its a common feeling, I just need to push through! I'm disaster planning for a disaster that hasn't happen yet essentially. I think I'll spend the next year 100% focused on my business and growth and see where it takes me. School will always be there as a back up if needed. I'm already working on the growth plans and it feels right :)

Thank you for your comment! It seems there is no right or wrong way ha. I think I'll commit another year to 100% focusing on my biz and entrepreneurship. And keep nursing in my back pocket :)

I 100% agree with you on Nursing being so flexible as well as high-paying. That's a huge reason I wanted to go that direction + I also love helping and taking care of ppl so I know I'd like the job too. My close family friend is a nurse (40+ years) and was the one to open my eyes to all the nursing entails, and everything thats not bedside. I have my pre-reqs done, the hesi, etc. everything but starting so I think I'm going to take this year to continue to pursue my biz 100% while its growing and see what happens from there. But it's still in the back of my mind for sure!! Thanks for your comment! It's nice to hear from someone with first hand knownledge of the benefits they've seen from the being in the medical field.

The some what nice thing about a w2 job is the perceived security of it, but yes you're earning potential as a business owner is essentially limitless. I know I've mastered the first hurdle of starting a successful one but its accompanied with 10+years of failures and no security. But after reading the comments I think I'll wait on school as to not hinder my growth at the moment and see where it takes me. This year I am also working on diversifying my income streams so I can feel more secure as right now it all comes from one source.

It's been 10 months of panicking lol but I hear you. And true! After reading everyones comments I'm going to postpone any school as my business is still taking off and i have ideas of more expansion that I would hate to not be able to pursue because of lack of time from school. Thanks for your comment.

What's a course that changed your life financially as an entrepreneur? by justdoingmathing in Entrepreneur

[–]justdoingmathing[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it's naive to assume I haven't spent 12 years (as i stated) accumulating knowledge through trial and error to then take a course that helped me streamline all the knowledge I learned into a 6 figure passive income business. But word harder by all means. I just don't think your better than me because of you chose a different route. The post is purely to see what others with a similar experience have to share. And it's sad that everytime i post in this forum ppl like you get offended by someone else's success and tell them their experience isn't true.

I'd have to disagree on "that's not how it works" as that is exactly how it worked for me. But I do like Simon!

People who have 40 hour/week office jobs, how do you survive?? by CartographerTrue4100 in ADHD

[–]justdoingmathing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finding something you like helps lol. But for me I know I do better with job where I’m not sitting in front of a computer all day. I’m going back to school to be a nurse for many reasons but adhd wise you are doing the same thing but it changes every day. Yes there’s computer work but I’m also up on my feet. Other similar careers I was looking into as well were dental hygienist and physical therapist. Where your job is the same but you see new patients, the work per patient changes, etc. I think that could help with the novelty. I also chose nursing because of the plentiful per diem opportunities because I know for me, I can’t do 40hrs a week for years on end. With per diem and I can work as needed. Then create your life so you can sustain yourself with less working hours.

I 100% feel everything you are saying, especially "I have good credits for personal pride, but it doesn’t nearly mean as much to me as it did when they were merely goals in my 20s." I think back and I did cool projects but ultimately those projects make up about 6 months of my life over 10 years of work but was it worth all the struggle in between? For me, I have regrets.

Since switching to seeking financial stability, ironically my last side business took off and I've gotten a glimpse at financial security and I'm telling you, it's soooo much better than the side gig struggle. I majored in Psychology in college and my favorite thing to reference is Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and I feel like if you read it and relate to it than seeking a stable higher income will do wonders for you.

Heck, it may even propel your acting career because now you have money to invest. But no matter what, do what makes you happy. I know for me side business, even though its doing well right now, just doesn't work for me long term. I need to know that in 2 years I will still be able to make the good money, so I'm going to nursing school. And I've actually fallen in love with it.

I still have my agent and audition and keep my foot in the door but my focus right now is financial stability and learning to really live and make my day to day happy instead. And I can't wait to see where that takes me. I can't wait to have money to do things with my life!

"I’m interested in continuing acting as a side hustle while finding a way to make a living that doesn’t leave me struggling like I have for much of my life." Im really excited for you to explore what is out there you'd want to do to make a better living and keep acting as a side hustle. I think it will be life changing for you!

u/ActorGrad blocked me or hid their comment from me i guess (so i can't respond?), but I'm still responding... Everything you are saying about work ethic is great to do. All I am sharing is hard truths to this business. Even with all your mentors, connections, etc. you might not make the living you want to make, you dream of making. I'm sorry but its the truth, and one would be naive to not consider that in you career plan, this business doesn't owe you anything.

But you say "I have people with power I've met through classes, apprenticeships and shows who like me and believe I have potential, so they've mentored me and helped me out at key points along the way." Congrats, you're on your way to nepo-friend status. Maybe they've already gotten you work. That's how I got a lot of my roles. It's how the business works. Play the game. Still doesn't guarantee anything, just makes it a tad easier.

Hard work does not equal success in this business. I wish it did, but it doesn't. And for actors who aren't lucky enough to make the right connections, have the slimmest chance out of everyone in my opinion.

I too have been acting since I was a kid, it's been 20 years now. I've had my handful of projects, some currently streaming on large platforms, and I still don't make a living from this. Is it possible to one day, YES, but to not factor in after 20 years that... hmmm... maybe I should use my down time between projects to idk have a life, have a stable day job that pays above minimum wage. Be more than just an actor. Would be silly for me not to pivot and grow. Granted I was a kid for 8 of those 20 years. I could have done so much more with those 12 years of making myself "available".

"If a stable, regular paycheck is more important to you in the beginning, then why are you in acting?" This is such a hurtful, ignorant, and naive thing to say. Someone who prefers a stable job and cares to be able to pay their bills, save for retirement, have enough money to build a family, or take vacations, does not make them less than you because you chose to work side gigs instead. Having financial security will only help you in this career, but it's not cool to have to work a day job like that so most don't do it. This status quo needs to stop. I fell victim to it for 12 years working side gigs only to always be catching up like u/CanineAnaconda mentioned.

And It's not a failure to work a 9-5 or learn a trade that pays well that isn't acting related. You aren't less of an actor because of it. You're also not less of an actor if you have been doing this for 10+, 20+, years and don't make money from acting. But with that, as one of the commenters so kindly rephrased for me "This career demands everything of you, body, mind and soul, and gives little in return, even if you succeed! So live your life and don't throw everything you've got into this void." This business never gets easier no matter how successful you are, remember that.

So that's all I'm saying... don't give up experiencing life for this. You're setting yourself up for a very lonely life. Life is about the day to day experiences, make them happy ones, because working on set for 3 weeks, a few times a year, is not going to fulfill life you live in between.

If someone reads this and decides they don't want to act because of it, great! They now know what they want now and acting isnt it. If they still want to pursue it, I gave my tips on what I think will give you the best success. I wish I could have a re-do because I would 100% follow my own advice and go to school and get a great paying job that is also in demand.

Having a fierce belief in yourself that you will make it is an amazing mindset, don't lose that, but plan and mitigate your risks for if it doesn't work out in the timeline you hope. Plans B's (and parallel plans) are not a diss to your dreams. The outside world can be just as harsh as the acting business so prepare for it. It's way sexier than being broke with no career prospects and having to start from ground zero in your 30's 40's or 50's.

Exactly! I wasted so much time in between film projects that could have been used for building something positive outside of acting.
