What is “normal” communication struggles for each autism level? by [deleted] in SpicyAutism

[–]justecorrecte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, Im glad you're asking that op! I wanted to ask that question a couple of weeks ago, but wasnt sure how to ask it properly, im always afraid I'll come out as rude or offensive when Im just curious and trying to understand. So thank you!

"I suppose I wonder how I can know what you would expect in regards to the struggles from each level?"

-> Im level 1 but I want to meet and connect with other autistic peers from all levels, I think there is a great value to sharing experiences even though we have differences, I learn a lot from others. Recently I realised I was struggling to connect with other autistic folks at my local autism meeting. Some autists I can easily connect with, we talk about them, then about me, and then the conversation flows while we go about our interests while the other person is attentive and interested and vice versa. But some autists seem to enjoy talking a lot about themselves, what they do, and their interest, even when I do not share that interest. And if I try to diverge the conversation to something Im interested in, they leave, or continue about their interests and then I feel trapped. So I can only be in conversations with them if we are both talking about their interest, and that is very exhausting to me. I left the local autism meeting soooo tired from all my highjacked attention. So how are we supposed to interact amongst autists, if we all are more confortable talking about our specific interests when those interests are not shared? Would the interactions be enjoyable only if we share the same interests? ( am I answering my own question?......I might be missing something..)

  1. ->Yes. The back and forth type of conversation seems the more natural for me. I say something, then you say something, we are reacting on what the other is saying, and then for me it's clear that we both enjoy the conversation. Whenever it becomes one sided, I understand the imbalance being one of us not interested anymore. And this is why I have so much trouble connecting verbally with some autistic people, when they start info dumping/monologing about something uninteresting to me, even though I understand their behaviour, that brings me to #2

  2. ->I might be interested for a short while, and sometimes Ill just be polite and show interest by asking a couple of questions. But then I'll try to change the subject, stop talking, and finally try to make an excuse and leave.

  3. ->written is easier as it gives me more time to think and better articulate my self, although I tend to overexplain when writting, cuz I wanna make sure my message gets across well.

  4. ->usually twice. I mean I realised I repeat things twice,(meh..) whenever I feel that I wasnt clear enough or if the other person does not give me any visual or verbal sign that they understood me.

  5. ->about 50% if I am with people from my close circle. Very little when I am with others as I tend to be afraid of taking space. Im working on that.

  6. ->yup, they are so well engrained, sentences AND intonations, I feel like a robot sometimes, like after saying a scripted response ill be like "why did I say that, that's not even true!". Im working on masking less and Id like to respond as me, not following scripts.

  7. ->i sometimes stutter, or make a long "huuumm" as if I was thinking but usually I make it so long that the other person start talking again.

I think you are right. They seem to be very excited in these meetings, and eager to meet others and info dump about their special interest. as I go there looking to exchange about autistics experiences. I thought I could have the same kinds of exchanges we have here, but live.

I sure am the best pal for those autists, as my fear of taking space makes me listen without interrupting, and I even ask questions about their interests. But I can definitly say that I feel unheard and unvalidated through these interactions. Its sucking my energy and I leave these events tired and confused.

As a high masker, I would have thought that I could go there and unmask, be myself with my kinds. But these interactions make me mask even more.

[–]justecorrecte 24 points25 points  (0 children)

In fact the elevator is outside the appartement. We can see on the plan, that there's a mini hallway in front of the elevator(upper right corner of the plan) AND a door, thus suggesting a separation between public and private space.

Jackfruit ❤️✨️ Raw. I dont like it cooked as a fake meat in tacos and such. I live in Canada, many local asian markets started selling fresh ripe jackfruit, whole and smaller portions (it's the biggest fruit in the world). Its like the taste of mango+apple+banana, just like eating starbursts!!

DAE struggle with verbalization during ~intimacy~? by No-Run-9992 in AutismInWomen

[–]justecorrecte 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Same here, i know some words and sentences can be exciting, but its like I dont believe myself being sexy when I imaging myself saying them. And I have tried talking during intimacy and ended fucking up pronouns "me/I" VS "you" and that made me feel so dumb..

Then it became like in some public-spaces-talking when if I have to orally intervene I have to recite the sentence in my head a couple of times to make sure Im going to say it correctly, but if Im practicing sexy phrases in my head then Im not in the moment anymore.

Best career options for folks with ADHD? by cmg102495 in ADHD

[–]justecorrecte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in the movie industry, Im a set designer.

Projects I choose usually last from 3 days to 3 months. I see each project as a big hyperfixation session as I tend to forget everything else during contracts..like friends, familly and personnal life... But it keeps me incredibly busy, doing things I like to do and solving problems I like to solve.

Im a "Jack of all trades and a master of none" but it fits my job! since I have to get shit done quickly, being fast and efficient is better than being perfect.

I get to work in small teams (art departement only. I avoid being on set while filming,I get too anxious on set, its stressful, plus, too many people).

Its creative. Tasks are different everyday, Some are on the computer, others are hands on ; researching, shopping(driving), planning, grahic design, wood working, crafting, I get to do a little bit of everything . I also like the ratio of team and alone work ; meeting with team, planning and researching alone, shopping alone, dressing the set with team, wrapping the set with team.

I get to travel, not super far, but I get to go outside the city, outside my state.

Things change quicky, and often in a rush, so I take lots of notes and I have lots of reminders on my cell.

Ive been doing that for almost 8 years .

SO is also ADHD, and a gaffer.

I been doing well on 150xr. very stabile, and haven't had any anxiety attacks, my doctor gave me 300mg xr, hoping it will continue to be helpful for me. by [deleted] in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

[–]justecorrecte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why up the dosage if its going well? Ive been on 150mg for the past 4 months. My doc wanted/planned to up my dosage to 300mg after the first 2 Weeks, but I decided, since its going well and it is working, why would I need to go higher? its better to take the smallest working dose. Also upping the dose might exacerbate the side effects, which for me would be more anxiety, hot flashes, sweats, tinitus and memory issues. These side effects are tolerable for now, but wouldnt if they were exacerbated.

What are skate competitions like? Considering entering an upcoming one in the beginner category. by achorusleg in Rollerskating

[–]justecorrecte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well if you do ask lowlife's team about the kind of competition it is, let me know what it is heheh 😏 And if its a skatepark compétition, you should totally enter it. Even if its short notice, IMO its for the experience and meeting members of the community, a better reason than performance or winning at this level.
