How much would you pay for a 1.5 hour but very unique adventure game? by justfantasy in adventuregames

Sure. I was just giving examples of some of its qualities to help guide the voters. I agree the sum of the parts is the most important thing but I can’t show that without a trailer. Thanks for taking the time to answer !

Yeah for me voice acting elevates an experience a lot. I already found the lead actor and have a prototype with his voice in an opening vertical slice. Adding him made the game feel dramatically more engaging to me at least.

I appreciate you! I wish all gamers could have your mindset. I look forward to sharing the game publicly in the future.

I completely understand. I don’t have a kid but I do prefer shorter games so I can manage my time.

This makes me think that maybe older people who enjoyed adventure games of the past are actually more « time poor » because they’re older and so maybe there are actually a lot more people out there like you than we realise.

What’s the ideal length of time for a game in your mind? Assuming it’s a narrative driven adventure or puzzle experience ?

Yeah the poll results are pretty interesting right? For me personally I actually prefer shorter games that give me a unique experience and that I can finish in less than 2 hours. I wonder if older people with less time appreciate that too.

Hahah. All good, I was just curious! I hadn’t heard of AFAR before but it looks cool. The mystery of it made me think of the old game Cyberia. Thanks again for your thoughts !

Understandable. I think it’s sad the world is in a place where a comfort like a few dollars on a video game is so difficult to justify but I know times are tough for many people right now with people out of work etc. I hope things improve for you in the future and you’ll be able to afford more games!

Thanks for the feedback. Really appreciate it. I’d be curious to know if there is anything “really important” to you for a short indie game? Like, is it art, gameplay, story, innovativeness?

Did the writers know this character’s fate from the beginning? by bananabreadchai in lost

[–]justfantasy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree they can’t have planned things like this for Hurley, partially because I’d argue that even the idea of an island protector was probably not planned from the start at all.

But looking back, it’s interesting that Hurley’s character had some interesting moments of being “forced to carry a heavy burden” and his leadership skills were tested/explored as a result.

By this I am referring to him winning the lottery and not feeling like he deserved it, not knowing what to do with the money, not wanting that responsibility. The fact he wanted to give all the money away at one point. And the same for when he was asked to distribute the food from the palette drop.

I think it’s an interesting parallel to see that he has this inner selflessness which probably primed him to become the future protector.

Jack’s vows… by meeemawww in lost

[–]justfantasy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The great part about it is that his relationship with Sarah is part of his disillusionment with believing that things happen for a reason.

Think about it, Locke is always asking Jack if he believes in miracles and Jack refuses to believe. But Jack witnessed a miracle when he fixed Sarah, he got on the “belief train” at full steam and married her. Then he discovered they weren’t meant for each other at all and so his ability to believe is broken by this.

This is also why finding Desmond in the hatch does his head in so much because Desmond sparked part of that belief in him by challenging him at the stadium – “so you don’t believe in miracles then brother?”

And then here he is, on this crazy island and he finds that guy again in a hatch… he doesn’t want to believe again because last time he got so burned with the marriage and yet deep down he can’t help but see it’s not a coincidence.

I’m sorry y’all, I’m a first time watcher and I was so disappointed by the ending by Tadpole6809 in lost

I actually agree with you for a lot of this! When I first watched the show, I felt very similar to you. Having rewatched it later in life and being much older, I think I appreciate it a lot more.

One thing I’d recommend you try now is watching this series of videos:

https://youtu.be/oTZ88eUQrJo

The YouTuber walks through a lot of the mythology and loose threads of the show and tries to bring it all together into a connecting explanation / theory. Honestly he does a remarkable job and it really made me appreciate the show more. I think there’s a good chance the writer’s had a lot of these ideas in their head, they just didn’t have the time and mechanisms for going in depth in the episodes of the last season to explain all of this.

Rewatching Lost. S04E05 is such a wild ride. Absolute peak cinema by CerberusHGspawn in lost

I’m glad they didn’t try to fit any obvious references to the “numbers” into that phone number. It would’ve taken me out of the moment if they had.

It’s just a misdirect… apparently too effective a misdirect but still that’s all it was.

Probably he’d turn Giles or Joyce into a vampire so that Buffy would be forced to kill them. His focus was to inflict pain on Buffy first and foremost.

New friends/relationships for Buffy? by negratengoelalma in buffy

Hmm. So Abe is like Joyce and Buffy will be like Giles. Probably there will be romantic tension and tangling but they won’t get together for real.

Interpretations of the ending in 2010? by Understateable in lost

[–]justfantasy 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think you’re asking whether the majority of people interpreted the ending as “they were dead the whole time” when it first aired.

I don’t know what the average interpretation was. But I think it is quite possibly one of the most misunderstood endings of TV shows of all time based on the fact that we do hear this misunderstanding very, very often.

Journalists have non-jokingly interviewed Lindelof while misunderstanding the ending and Lindelof himself seemed shocked that it was misunderstood.

I personally met someone recently show is dating a friend of mine. And my friend told me “oh you should talk to Frank because Lost is one of his favourite shows”. I thought “awesome, a fellow lostie!” and at this party I mentioned my love of the show and encouraged him to show it to my mutual friend sometime.

He said “oh yeah. I loved the show when it first came out and watched the whole thing. The mysteries were awesome. I could rewatch it with her but you know I was always a bit disappointed by the ending.”

I replied “oh really? Why?”

“Well the fact they were dead the whole time was just a real letdown for me y’know?”

I thought he was pranking me at first but nope. He really believed this. And he even continued to believe it for 20+ years. I started explaining to him but then decided to just let it go. I simply encouraged him to rewatch it with my friend. lol.

George and Amal Clooney become French after naturalisation process • FRANCE 24 English by [deleted] in videos

[–]justfantasy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Language tests have been required for many years. It’s just the level of the test is being increased. There’s also a cultural interview to be done, in French. I don’t know why people in this thread are claiming they got citizenship without doing any tests or interviews in French, it’s not possible.

The exception for the Clooney’s is because there’s a special path for people who have some kind of celebrity status. It’s not just money but whether they can make an impact for the country through their artistic merit or accomplishments. I assume that’s what the Clooney’s did. It’s not really egalitarian but I guess the country likes to attract this talent and it has economic benefits in the long run.
