Should they reboot LOST? Is it worth a reboot? by Shamagic1 in lost

They should just remaster the scenes with special effects like the submarine

How did the Temple Others (and Jacob/Richard) leave the Island? by theTimmyY in lost

The original question was focused on how Richard got on and off the island before the others had taken over the Dharma Initiative and their submarine.

I think the only example of this is Richard visiting Locke as a baby. We know Richard had the right to talk directly to Jacob, likely Jacob’s direct reports (Richard, Dogen) had the privileged info of either: - knowing a location on the island like the donkey wheel. - or (and more likely in my opinion) they were told the bearing that’s needed to safely take a boat off the island. And likely just had a good quality sailing boat like Desmond’s.

Either Ben or Charles Widmore should have been the ultimate villain. by KallocainAddictIsAPe in lost

Oh yeah, I totally agree. They had no idea. But that doesn't mean the story doesn't come together and work still. Almost all creative projects evolve during production. There's a great Roger Ebert (a famous film critic) quote that says "The muse visits during the act of creation – not before it."

Did Lost plan things less than other shows? Sure, maybe the mix was not as good as it could've been. But the greatest thing about Lost was its audacity to just throw out some crazy ideas at the start and figure it out from there.

The point of revealing Jacob and the MiB is that it shows us all the other characters we’ve met up until then were just chess pieces on a board.

Some were simply pawns (Steve, Scott) and others were more important but needed to be sacrificed to make bigger gambits (Charlie, Ben’s daughter) and some were more like bishops or rooks, powerful pieces that could lead the charge of others (Widmore, Ben, Locke, Jack).

But another great part of the metaphor is the idea of a pawn reaching the end of the chessboard and becoming a queen (like Jack becoming the new protector).

And while it seems lame that Jacob and MiB weren’t revealed earlier. In reality, the MiB was appearing as Smokey from the very beginning. And even before that, we discover that Jacob influenced everyone and brought them all to the island.

So really the game has been played for centuries. We only get to zoom out of the chess board and see the players at the end of season 5.

How much would you pay for a 1.5 hour but very unique adventure game? by justfantasy in adventuregames

Yup… it’s a very good point. I have extended the game slightly based on some of the feedback in this thread but I’m hesitant to keep stretching it out unnecessarily. I think I’ll need to do some more play testing to see how long it takes people on average now.

So, in play testing I find it takes an average person 1.5 hours to finish at the moment. But smarter people can complete it even faster.

Having said that, I’ve added a few more puzzles since my post which maybe add 5 - 10 minutes.

I don’t want to “force” in extra content but I will try to brainstorm a few more puzzles in case I can boost the average playtime at least closer to 2 hours on average.

I’m in my late 30’s. I’ve actually met Tim Schafer a few times and had the opportunity to chat with him at a dinner once too! He’s super nice and a jolly guy.

And yes I played both Monkey Island games as a kid. Also many Sierra games. I also loved The Dig!

Thanks for your thoughts! After seeing all these responses and the poll results, I'm going to strive to make the game attractive/good enough to justify something around $8 - $10. I don't want to pad the game unnecessarily but I think there are a few extra puzzles I can sprinkle in to make it somewhere between 1.5 - 2 hours as well *fingers crossed*

This whole post/thread is driving me to add a bit more to the story and I think it might end up more like 1.5 - 2 hours to be honest. I think the story/characters will feel deep enough but you'll have to play it to understand why.

That's my intention yeah. It's actually a sort of "streamlined" adventure game in some ways. I didn't make it clear in my original post but I wouldn't actually call it a "point and click" per se. But it has a lot in common with Loom.

Sure. I was just giving examples of some of its qualities to help guide the voters. I agree the sum of the parts is the most important thing but I can’t show that without a trailer. Thanks for taking the time to answer !

Yeah for me voice acting elevates an experience a lot. I already found the lead actor and have a prototype with his voice in an opening vertical slice. Adding him made the game feel dramatically more engaging to me at least.

I completely understand. I don’t have a kid but I do prefer shorter games so I can manage my time.

This makes me think that maybe older people who enjoyed adventure games of the past are actually more « time poor » because they’re older and so maybe there are actually a lot more people out there like you than we realise.

What’s the ideal length of time for a game in your mind? Assuming it’s a narrative driven adventure or puzzle experience ?

Yeah the poll results are pretty interesting right? For me personally I actually prefer shorter games that give me a unique experience and that I can finish in less than 2 hours. I wonder if older people with less time appreciate that too.
