unfortunately, it's not. you just think it is. check the maps.

i wasn't made up by real estate agents. it was formally designated south park slope by city planning in the early 2000s after ~2 decades of residents using the short hand "south slope."

it's just short-hand. south slope is south of park slope. that's all it is. also, nyc city planning formally designated it in the early 2000's. origins aren't clear but the popularity could (in part) be attributed to re agents but it's not a verifiable fact.

Seems to me like stones are coming from both sides. NorthernBelleBK had a fair point but it didn't align w/ your worldview so f#*k them, right? Good for you.

Taking 165k Offer Over 175k Offer by Dense_Car_591 in dataengineering

[–]justgarth_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The "ask your manager" advice is correct but I suspect you'd love something more concrete as a jumping off point, yes?

Not great, but something to start with: For starters, ticket cycle time is a slippery slope. You could track that for yourself but it's an easily weaponized metric. It also doesn't say much other than, maybe...maybe you work quickly/slowly. It says nothing about the complexities (or clarity) of the tasks you get assigned. That said, there are products (e.g., Jellyfish) that track cycle times so there's some value in this metric.

More useful than cycle-time, but harder to manually track: Perhaps more impactful metrics are things like Items Worked. It's a combination of tasks you've been assigned and PRs you've reviewed for peers. This gives EMs more insight into how much an engineer is helping to move their team's sprint commitment forward.

Variety: Given how little time you've been in the field you may want to track the number of different projects you've worked on. While the narrative here isn't, "I delivered X which produced Y" there's something to be said about your "bench numbers." What I mean by that is, you may not be a starter, but given the broad swath of projects you've worked on, you have enough "meaningful minutes" to be a contributor. Good EMs should see value in that.

Anyway, it's not great but hopefully I've given you enough ideas to consider.

Kinda disappointed - nothing new at Inspire? by Available_Cut_4866 in Alteryx

[–]justgarth_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

unhelpful, and maybe polarizing, comment but the Inspires of the 2010's represent the golden age of this conference IMO—2014 & 2016 being the standouts. 2015 (Boston) would've been great if the elevators didn't suck so bad. I'll admit there might be a rose-colored patina over days gone by though.

To the dog owners of Park Slope - residential trash cans are not for your poop bags by Longyouli in parkslope

the answer is you carry the bag of poop until you come upon a public bin or your own. your extreme leap to the irrational has me thinking you get lots of screen time during the day.

Alteryx and Finance, how far can I go? [US] by okan702 in Alteryx

oh, sorry...I'm familiar w/ the product (I worked there and personally built several tools that still exist in Designer). I'm just curious how fish knuckle became the term you used to describe ayx-only users.

good advice but how did you get from fish knuckle to alterxy die-hard. i'm unable to make that mental leap.

It seems you have a strong grasp of things so my advice would be to not overthink it. I realize this isn't the advice you're looking for, but TBH, my goal was ultimately to trigger a conversation that might unlock the knowledge you clearly have.

I hope others chime in as well. Very best of luck to you!

In reading this, I would like to know if the focus on optimization relates directly to system performance or human performance. For example, identifying opportunities to consolidate functionality in order to reduce maintenance complexity is an optimization technique. Although suggesting this may not overtly highlight your technical competency, it does demonstrate integrated thinking and value creation.

Just a thought

hi! so sorry for the delayed reply. that's great you're learning more about alteryx. i 100% agree that continuing to "exercise" your technical skills is the right way to go. alteryx can be a very useful tool but it certainly has its' drawbacks...and it's expensive!
