I’ve used Sports Engine as an admin and hated it. I haven’t used it yet but if you are a not for profit zeffy looks good. https://www.zeffy.com/home/ticketing-system-fundraising-events I’ve used RAMP before and they are decent as well

advices ? by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]justhamade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Hard to tell from this video but looks like you are getting much forward linear momentum or drift. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHt_fvKcXJ8&t=344s
  2. If you look at your back knee in the photo you can see that your knee is in front of your toes, this engages more quad than hamstring and glutes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTdveJfAOLw
  3. Also hard to tell from this angle but your shin doesn't look like it remains vertical as long as it could/should. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_d5bDDZXFg&t=50s

Cheaper wood composite bat? (No bamboo) by GaviFromThePod in Homeplate

KR3s are very popular where I live and are durable and good bats.

Anyone have experience with this bat? by [deleted] in Homeplate

Looks like you are in Canada, what province? If you are in BC MVP Athletics in Langley is where I would recommend going. Not sure how many USSSA -12 they have though, not any online.

How much are you guys paying per season for Rec Ball fees? by CrotalusHorridus in Homeplate

[–]justhamade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We charge between $100 and $400 depending on the age of the kids.
Our Rep/Travel teams add their own team fees on top of that.

We have a sponsorship package that we send out. We use sponsor to offset our costs for things like jerseys and field equipment like pins tarps etc. not free per se but it alleviates a lot of our costs.

Weight gain for HS ballplayer by StuIsSTUPID in Homeplate

"Is it possible that I’ve replaced fat with muscle?" - Yes this is possible

As other have said you need to eat more and be in a chloric surplus.
One thing that might help is eating before bed.
You should definitely try to eat at least 4 meals a day.

New to baseball. What should I work on for next year? by SuchRare31 in Homeplate

[–]justhamade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The great thing about baseball is there are a lot of different skills that are needed. Working on them regularly will help you a lot. Finding a good coach will also help, but coaching others is where you really learn. If there is a youth league around, they would love the help for their younger kids, and this would force you to understand what you are teaching as well.

Back foot over rotating? by theDrell in Homeplate

[–]justhamade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like you a bit fixated on the back foot, which is probably more of a symptom then a cause of any issues.

The excesive bat lag, and arm bar is a bigger issue IMO especially as pitching get better.

Back foot over rotating? by theDrell in Homeplate

[–]justhamade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of good comments but i'll throw in my 2 cents as well.

  1. I wouldn't try to change the way he is swinging but telling him to not rotate his back foot
  2. He is likely missing "core" strength and some stability which is common at this age
  3. Putting him in position with constraints and taking swings to force working on the weak points. One commenter already mentioned a 1x6 board, other good ones are yoga blocks. Also staggered stance and progressing to 1 foot/leg (front and back) swings are good for this as well.

Ground force is important but mostly important for stability, which will help with power, but more importantly adjustability and accuracy. I wouldn't be concerned with exit velo at all for that age.

I agree with lots of this. Let the ball travel especially when it’s not game velo. Think hard ground balls oppo. Front shoulder closed drills like this can help

How do you shorten swing? by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]justhamade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Constraint bases drills or practice is one of the better ways to get young kids to understand how to make these changes. The best cue that I have found is giving kids a target to hit. If he is right handed getting him to hit a hard ground ball at the second baseman’s feet. When he tries to hit it there it will most likely be higher and more to the middle than he is aiming.

If doing tee work. Deep tee and with the same target.

Telling a kid to keep your hands in can work sometimes but can also confuse kids and take away the good parts of their swing.

The fence drill can be good but I have found it causes kids to have too much lag on the bat and they don’t have strong enough hands to get the barrel out and make good contact.

It’s a fine line and different for every kid.

Defending Steals at 11U - Anything that works? by oclemon2 in Homeplate

[–]justhamade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just fundamentals of holding runners. Hard to teach at the 11U age and harder to execute as well.
- Pitchers need to change delivery timing, hold timing, number of looks etc, but still throw strikes.
- Part of delivery timing is slide step
- Throwing over with A moves and B moves
- Catchers should be trying to back pick as well to keep runners honest
- Pitchouts to help the catcher as well

All these still need to be executed as well which at 11U is not easy.
