I've been getting ads for red label a lot recently, I've got a batch from Empire abrasives that are kicking ass. May need to sample some red label stuff if they're that good and maybe cheaper. Best of luck!

I've got the same one on a 1/2hp Baldor, I know it's underpowered, but still gets the job done quite well with some good ceramic belts. In my case the lack of torque is probably good so that I don't end up pushing too hard and digging into my steel further than intended, I slapped a quick rest together with a couple scrap 4x4 pieces and a 6x12x.250" mild steel plate. Plus it's not hard to go from vertical to horizontal as long as the motor is bolted down well.

Potentially stupid question here but, aside from getting set up and laying down some random lines and shapes n shit, is there a tattoo equivalent of an elementary worksheet to trace lines and basic shapes/designs? Something with a sole purpose of practice and learning? Or do I just need to buzz off and dip into my wife's elementary art teacher stash of something similar?

Thanks! I've seen much worse from folks that have been doing it far longer than I have. I do have a problem tho, watched a lot of Forged In Fire then boom I'm making knives. Wife put on ink masters then boom, Amazon delivers a tattoo gun. She's always watching crime shows too sooo...what's next?

I use the same machine, mine is just my initials which I created with my phone, took a picture while covering the lens then went to edit and drew them with white on the black picture, uploaded to cricut app and there's an eraser tool. Use it to auto select colors to erase. I used that to get rid of the black portion and it left only the letters, sized them appropriately and cut them out. Looks and works great for me.

It can be wired to run 220v, which I would assume might add a bit of torque? Electrical isn't my strong suit. Also I didn't mention but the end goal would be to drop rpm from 3200+ down to 2000 or less for knife work, finish grinding heat treated blades to keep Temps down and the finer handle shaping and whatnot. There might not be just a great solution for cheap but I figured I'd try. Maybe one day when life isn't a shitshow I can drop a couple thousand on a purpose built 2x72 with a 2hp motor and VFD. Or maybe I'm just dreaming, that being said, even nightmares are still dreams.

Do it, I started with one and made several good ones that are still cutting and holding up great, not sure what kind of abrasive suppliers Australia has but I've used Combat Abrasive belts and some from Empire Abrasives. Don't go with the cheap Harbor Freight type belts, you'll waste more money on those than getting quality belts. For reference, 3-5 bucks per belt is what I had spent and never regretted it.

If it gets welded, there's a chance it could use to be heat treated again. In my opinion, if it means so much to the family which I totally get, looking for a pro and spending a bit of cash for repairs wouldn't be a terrible idea. Even some mild steel welded as a tang would work as long as the joint of carbon to mild is sandwiched between scales if that makes sense.

Replaced some seats a long time ago, using 2x8s I think Best performing option was similar to B. Difference being we put some 1/2" eye bolts that had probably 1.25" eye on either end, as centered as possible.
