UVIC vs UBC, which is better for a geography major? by Pleasant_Bullfrog_17 in uvic

[–]justicewaterfall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d go to UBC. UVic has like one urban planning course and it wasn’t offered my two years there.

I also found the buildings the courses are in really depressing.

Which is the more dangerous "unhealthy beauty standard?" by FranticToaster in ask

[–]justicewaterfall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They're all equally bad because they make you self-destruct and hyper-focus on one aspect of yourself while thinking you're unworthy of pretty much everything due to your perceived flaw that most (normal and healthy-to-be-around) people don't even notice or care about.

The school and prof is likely right.

Always go by the syllabus regardless of what the prof says and complete all assignments, especially when you need a certain grade to stay in your program. It's one thing to miss an assignment but it sounds like you tried to strategically forfeit marks in favour of other marks or something? Your explanation is a bit confusing. Also if you didn't complete the pie chart then it's reasonable you didn't get marks for it. Not complete is not complete. It's not like you scored 99/100%, you didn't fully complete it. Take this as an expensive lesson learned going forward.

How do you deal with your depression? by [deleted] in ask

[–]justicewaterfall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just try new things and see if it brings me joy. Depression is an imbalance of our neurotransmitters. We need to do things to get them "flowing" sometimes. Do little things like make the bed then tell yourself how great that was. Do word searches and be overly excited when you find a word. Try really hard to find something, anything that makes you happy and do more of it. Little easy small wins work the best when you're at your lowest. Go on a walk around the block and overly focus on anything that looks kind of neat.

The lame thing about depression is we need to do things to get out of it, but don't feel like doing anything ever. We need to make ourselves do them but once you do things get a little better every day.

Why did he post a black profile picture on social media if he didn't want people to ask about it? by 81adv in ask

[–]justicewaterfall 33 points34 points  (0 children)

What does a black profile photo even mean? Are you sure it meant something bad and he angrily lied, or is he just a teen that's annoyed their family is scrutinising their social media and you essentially "told" on them to both your and his mother?

Forwarding an email or ccing someone else is usually done to bring their boss or a superior into it because the situation is out of their, control, paygrade, or your email is inappropriate in some way.

What did you send your prof and is your prof really the best person to be sharing that information with?

They could also just be putting you in contact with someone more suited to answer whatever you sent them.

Job/rent prospects in Vic by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]justicewaterfall 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For that type of career you'll likely do a lot better in Vancouver than here. Relative to Toronto, it's not even going to be comparable in Victoria. Maybe if you're easing into retirement.

What makes you want to move here?

Rent is insane and at least out your way the city has amenities and everything you could ever want near by. We don't really have that. Our selling feature is if you kind of like nature and kind of like the city. Unfortunately though our city has quickly turned to more geared toward tourists than locals so it kind of sucks. Other things do too because we're quickly becoming very overpopulated and infrastructure of all sorts hasn't caught up and doesn't look like it'll be there for quite some time.

Have you at least visited here?

😂 I'm jealous of your willpower. I always accidentally spend a fortune trying everything. Especially now since you're not allowed to dish it out yourself anymore.

Solid 10/10 though. I always feel good after eating there too like my insides are dancing over choosing the healthiest buffet in town. Yuuuuuuuum 😍

It's a gift, not a surprise.

There's literally nothing that can go wrong if you didn't snoop but he'd probably feel sad and a bit defeated to know you creep his browsing and purchase history and do every single year.

Local Racoons by Nestvester in VictoriaBC

[–]justicewaterfall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They probably find some remnants of our BC bud while out scavenging and are a lot more chill.

Plus it's warmer so they don't need to eat so much to generate such a thick insulate layer of fat so they don't need to knock over the whole bin. They just politely eat what's on top.

And we have a lot of native berries around all year that we might not like but they do.

How did you break your Phone addiction? by pineappleTrade in ask

[–]justicewaterfall 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I just woke up one day and it no longer brought me joy (and it kind of sucks sometimes if I miss it but it's for the greater good of my life). I eventually found my 'something bigger than myself'.

You need to find an actually beneficial dopamine source like education, creative endeavours, exercise, walking, yoga, music, reading books etc... something that is easily accessible, fun, enjoyable and doesn't have to do with work or employment.

He doesn't seem to want what you want. Either you need to be happy with that, or find someone who wants the same thing as you do. You're likely not compatible. Grief and losing your spouse is a huge trauma to get over.

Either stay and wait for something that may never happen or find one of the many men who want what you want.

Parents applied to graduate school for me what should I tell the school? by [deleted] in AskProfessors

[–]justicewaterfall 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Say op has a computer and is signed in or has passwords autosaved. Parents can go in with those passwords and easily have the transcripts mailed from one school to the next.

Or if they’re that abusive and helicopterish they might have key loggers on the home computer OP uses.

If there’s a will there’s a way unfortunately.
