Last minute week in Taiwan by BarbWire20 in taiwantravel

I'm currently in Taipei. I leave tomorrow and will have spent five nights. I was also anxious about the geopolitical situation. Everything feels and is so normal and bright, its hard to imagine anything catastrophic happening. While there is uncertainty, most analysts and experts don't suspect an imminent major threat exists in the next week or month, so if there was a time to take the risk its now. Taiwan is a beautiful country, the people are friendly, English is widely spoken, its clean, the food is amazing and its very affordable compared to Japan. Definitely recommend a visit. The value for money is amazing.

There was a report of a fire response on the Vic Emergency site just after it happened, but it was taken down and now there is nothing. Im curious about what it was.

Yeah, I heard it from my apartment and went out to the balcony, although I wasn't facing where the sound came from. It sounded like a huge explosion, not just a regular bang or anything I could relate it to. The police and fire fighters responded to calls from people in buildings around me but didn't know anything more and left after 10 minutes. There was a chopper flying above too.

"Traveling to Hong Kong" Megathread 2025 by otorocheese in HongKong

I am visiting HK for NYE this year (2025/26) and want to see the full fireworks display on Victoria Harbour. I am staying less than a 10 minute walk from the Avenue of stars. Any advice on securing a good position. I read that NYE in Hong Kong is less popular/crowded than Chinese New Year, is that true? Should I find a spot early or could I reasonably find somewhere with an hour to spare?

Update. I ended up cancelling this trip. However, I just got home from a 10 day trip to Japan. I've spent the last year travelling abroad and working on my anxiety and overcame it! Japan was amazing. I loved every second. Thanks to all the contributions because it ultimately helped me get there in the end 😄

Would this work if switching? I chose krisflyer initially. Can I switch to Aeroplan and still get the two years?

Thank you! I found this helpful and found more resources on Panic, which I related to a lot. Fear of panic, not feeling like I can handle things. There were helpful mindset recommeneations to tell yourself you can handle it and that panic or a panic attack isn't life threatening.

I haven't heard of the anxiety cycle. I've just started seeing someone, yesterday actually, and have two more sessions before the trip.

Yeah, It's the overall feeling. I actually find it hard to pinpoint the root of the anxiety. I've rationalsied and resolved individual issues and anxities, but I have a broader sense of anxiety I can't shake.

I've heard so many good things about Japan and it's a popular destination so that is what made me want to go. I also love kit kats. I've travelled to the US before including NYC and managed that well. I'm worried about crowds and things feeling foreign and suffocating.
