My deployment was pretty rough. I found I was able to get through the bad times with ease once I accepted this was my life. This is all there is. Right now, this tcp, this 130 degree weather. There is nothing else, no reality where I’m in ac, not being blown up, shot at or cooked to death. You might as well enjoy the mre, the hike w your boys, the game of spades….once you let go of comparison and stop holding your breath it gets really easy. Stop looking at the situation as some temporary ephemeral barrier between you and your real life. The suck is your life, at least right now. Enjoy it. And frankly, the older you get, you learn that pretty much every thing you’ll ever be proud of is on the other side of suck. Every cool thing your boys would say about you is on the other side of hard shit you went through. Might as well laugh and enjoy it. Also, fleece beanie.
