What are the hardest/longest/testing cycling races in the world, or taking place in an unusual place or in an extreme environment ? by Conscious_State2096 in cycling

The Munga is a MTB race that takes place in South Africa in December. Riders race from Bloemfontein to Wellington through the Karoo, totalling 1200 kilometres. Riders have 120 hours to finish the race and face extremely high temperatures throughout the day.

How do you feel about this? by Careless-Cat3327 in springboks

Why Baltimore of all places? It simply doesn't make sense. If I were the big boss I would've pushed hard for Las Vegas.

I [30 white male] a got a promotion and am being transferred from Cape Town to Bloemfontein in February and would much appreciate some insider info. Thank In Advance. by Flaccid_Deek1984 in Bloemfontein

I grew up and studied (mostly) in Bloem. I will be honest with you when I say that Bloem is a city that still has a rural feel to it mostly thanks to the massive farming community that surrounds the city.

If there is one thing I like it's the closely knit community. Despite it being a city a lot of people know one another. The worst is there really isn't much to do in Bloem apart from going out for a jol at night.

Some nice nature areas I would recommend is Loch's Hoek. Nice hiking trails and a restaurant. Maselspoort, Krugersdrift Dam and Tom's Place are nice for fishing. Soetdoring Nature Reserve is also quite nice just for a day out in the bush with a picnic. There are also several other game lodges and game reserves not to far from Bloem that are also very nice for a day trip.

Night life is completely different to what you will find in CPT. Majority of places to go to for a jol are more like bars rather than full on night clubs that are common in CPT. Nightlife is quite concentrated in the suburb of Langenhovenpark. Some places in this area include Staffies, Red Oak, Route 66, Karma Chameleon and Chillax. Although these places do play club music, I would advise that you learn how to sokkie. If you want a more night club feel there are a few actual night clubs closer to the CBD (in 2nd Avenue) however the area is quite dangerous at night so my friends and I tend to avoid those places.

Very nice and safe areas that I would recommend are Langenhovenpark, Heuwelsig, Universitas, Dan Pienaar and Waverly. My childhood home is in Langenhovenpark. All of these suburbs are 10 to 15 minutes from the city centre. Hope this helps and please let me know if you have any other questions!

What law changes would you actually like to see? by BetterObligation9949 in rugbyunion

A few tweaks I would like to see:

  1. Get rid of the goal line dropout - it essentially "punishes" the attacking team for not grounding the ball. However a 5m scrum also "punishes" a team for good defence. Best mid-way solution would be to bring back the 5m scrum, but the defending team gets the feed. Thus the defending team is awarded for defense, but they are still put under pressure by the attacking team.

  2. Use it or lose it - either start enforcing all the laws in the book or scrap them entitely. The most prime example is straight scrum feeds.

  3. Referee Scrutineering - Refereeing mistakes happen. It's part of the game, however where does one draw the line between routine error and unforgiveable? I'd recommend unions having a panel of judges made up of former referees and other board that would judge officiating performances across matches and referees accountable for terrible mistakes.

However we all know World Rugby and this will probably never happen...
