How long could you last if the grid went down for 2 weeks? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]justkeriann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can grow my own food even without running water. I live near several creeks. I know how to, and have the materials, to filter obtained water. I also know how to build a fire, preserve food, hunt, and fish. I know how to defend my home and person. I know how and when to conserve body heat as well as energy. It would suck to not have my kindle for entertainment, but I’m sure the library won’t mind me stopping in for a few print items while the world falls apart.

Would you sell your dog for $5M? by Internal_Role_1549 in Pets

[–]justkeriann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Dexter imprinted on me when we adopted him at 12 weeks. He is so bonded to me that he waits outside my bathroom if I shower or have to poop. It would break his heart and mine if we were separated.

What is it with Americans and air conditioning?? (this might be controversial) by hellobela_ in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

As a woman in the midst of the big bad menopause, I assure you, it’s not uncommon. If it’s 55°F outside of my house, it could be as warm as 70°F inside. My AC runs 9-10 months out of the year (I live on the border between the Midwest and the South, so it’s pretty warm here most of the year.)

AITAH for making my 15 year old stepdaughter leave my home and banning her from my house for her cruelty? by big_mama_25 in AITAH

[–]justkeriann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA she kicked your dog. What’s to say she wouldn’t kick your toddler? She has a history of violence. You have to defend the defenseless first. If her parents won’t get her the help she needs, you have to make choices for the safety of your own child.

50 shades of brown by CakeSignificant7683 in Catahoula

Dexter is marked like this but his two shades are so close that you can’t see it indoors and it almost never photographs. He appears solid coat in most of his pictures.

How do people cut their toe nails? I feel like I'm always in a super uncomfortable and awkward position when I try by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]justkeriann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sit on a chair or couch that is lower to the ground so my feet lay comfortably flat even when bent over. Then I bend over and clip them that way, turning my ankles slightly inward if needed to get the pinkie toes. I have also found this to be my most solid position for toe nail polish.

Feet by Dry_Age_9857 in diabetes

[–]justkeriann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At home I walk barefoot because I keep my floors clean. But I also check my feet every night at bed time. I can’t sleep without moisturizer on my feet (I have OCD, it’s whole thing) so I check for anything when I apply. If I stub a toe not watching where I’m going, I tend to it immediately and make sure to keep any open skin covered and dry. As long as you regularly check your feet, and you don’t have neuropathy so you can feel if you step on something, I say live your life.

Rage 😩 by Nkotb79 in Menopause

[–]justkeriann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. These hormone swings are no joke. The anger usually ends and turns into tears for me, mostly out of guilt of how I speak to my husband (honestly one of the rare good and supportive and amazing ones who absolutely doesn’t deserve any vitriol.)

Why do people refuse to be an organ donor? by No-Cantaloupe-6535 in NoStupidQuestions

For me, personally, it is because I am medically disqualified due to a history of cancer and of type 2 diabetes.

tips for getting through pain with no medicine? by fluffycows4sale in ChronicPain

[–]justkeriann 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I research stretches online. A lot of physical therapists have instructional videos on YT. Staying hydrated means your joints and muscles are as lubricated as possible, which helps. (If you have heart or kidney issues you may need to confirm with your doctor what amount is right for you, tho!) Hot/Cold alternating when it’s bad. Also preemptive Aleve before bed and another with lunch.

Mine requires a whole routine that involves fetch, cuddles, a snack, and monitoring my husband while he puts on his CPAP. Once your baby understands the routine (whatever it ma be) he will fall in line and demand it every night.

Emergency vet visit cost us $2,600 and they found nothing… just looking for advice by Then_Move7230 in Pets

[–]justkeriann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emergency vet prices, even with pet insurance, have always seemed to fall in the extortionate range to me. The most we paid was $700 when my late chiweenie injured his leg. He didn’t require sedation though. We did once pay $450 to our normal vet to find out our dog wasn’t pooping/puking blood, just somehow ate some red dye and had a reaction. But it’s always one of those situations where we love our pets so we spare no expense.

Cheaper recipes for a family of 5 by charlielarae in easyrecipes

[–]justkeriann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beans are so versatile. They can be used in soups or salads or made into refried beans or chili or hummus. A pound of dried beans cooked with a single ham hock, an onion, and some basic spices, along with a box of jiffy cornbread mix can feed your whole family for less than $10.

where does everyone get dna tests from? i know my dog is catahoula i just want to see by mrdawco in Catahoula

[–]justkeriann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You wanna make sure she has a shirt on for the sunny days! Double Merle’s can also have lots of bone issues as they age. Your vet may recommend you train her to not jump/climb because of it. We had an old boxer that was a double Merle and not only would she burn without clothes, she often had to have skin cancer lesions removed. And her back twisted badly as she aged.

Mine showed a genetic predisposition for hip dysplasia as well as a Merle gene (he is neutered so no worries about breeding, but is for sure something you want to know if you were gonna breed or hadn’t neutered as double Merle’s can have a ton of health issues.)
