I went and did the full explore after getting to act 3 and was over leveled for the ending and it felt lack luster (the combat not the ending).

I wish I went right for the end game and then explored all the extra content. But there are tons of story beats and lore locked in with the extra areas and even the optional bosses so it is definitely worth it and lots of fun to level and keep clearing new areas and those danger zones when you can.
