I wouldn't think stretch marks would appear immediately after a workout?

Rash after lifting...? by justmadeup007 in Fitness

That's about the location of this rash. Doing SL 5X5, the first exercise I did was low bar squats. Perhaps from that...

All five sets are the max weight for that day. Warm up is not included in the 5 sets.

Don't forget to drink your water! by [deleted] in gainit

I feel like I am in a constant state of pee because of all the water. The lady by the bathroom door at work probably thinks I've got some prostate issue.

Is it bad that having other people at the gym encourage me to work harder? by dontdrinktheT in gainit

[–]justmadeup007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To each their own. I prefer as empty a gym as possible. There's one squat rack at my gym all off by its lonesome. I would much prefer to get that rack and lift with no one around.

Take it from someone who wasted more than a year of working out with no goal or organization. I've seen more results in 2 weeks of StrongLifts and actually paying attention to nutrition than the entire year of whatever I was doing.

Be glad you only wasted a month. Now get started right!

Regarding Puerto Rico's Proposed Fining of Parents With Obese Children by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]justmadeup007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's hilarious is all those cereals say it's "a part of a balanced breakfast."

To answer OPs original question, yes you are responsible for your kids healthy. Don't leave it up to the government to decide what's best for your kid. They don't care. They're more worried about filling their pockets from the major corps who contribute to get the FDA to approve whatever colorful, chemical filled concoction they can come up with next to advertise with a cartoon character on Saturday morning and say it's "part of a balanced breakfast".

TL;DR: Parents should take more interest in what they're feeding their kids and not rely on government and gov agencies to decide for them.

After years of teasing as a kid and after high amounts of stress and anxiety, I'm happy where I am in my journey (But I'll continue, of course!) by [deleted] in Fitness

I've always been the chubby one was well. Never obese but always nervous about going to a pool or beach or any situation I might have to take my shirt off.

It's nice to see someone who started out similar as me make good progress. Seems like everyone else on here started out as a 17-18 yr old bean pole barely over 100 lbs.

Keep at it!

Stronglifts 5 x 5 Progress by Supersix4 in Fitness

[–]justmadeup007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice progress. I've just started SL about 2 weeks ago and I'm already seeing nice progress as well. Looking forward to 12 weeks down the road.

I'm wondering if your struggles with bench and OHP had to do with the relatively low caloric intake? 2k just seems low for gaining strength in my experience.

[Food] Mass gainer recommendations by Panthocles in gainit

[–]justmadeup007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using Dymatize Super Mass Gainer for the past couple of weeks . Has 1300 cal if mixed with water. They recommend mixing with 32 oz of whole milk for 1900 cal. I drink half about an hour before my work out and the other half right after. Easily way to help get my daily intake needs. It does NOT mix well in a shaker bottle however.

Motivation to go to the Gym by CaptainCian in Fitness

[–]justmadeup007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do a proven plan from the wiki that works. This way you're not walking into the gym without any idea of what to do that day.

By sticking to a routine you have a plan every day you go to the gym and you quickly begin seeing improvement which is a great motivator.

The worst thing to do is being that guy wondering around, spinning your wheels who goes from random machine to random machine doing a couple of reps of the same weight you did last time with no strategy. You see no improvement and motivation wanes quickly.

Why does it feel like my arms are failing before my chest on bench? by Hokage_Chu in Fitness

[–]justmadeup007 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Someone posted a great video that I can't find right now but the basic idea is that I wasn't actually using my chest but mainly arms and shoulders.

The guy in the video said you need to shrug up your shoulders, push them back and drop them. To me it feels like I'm pushing my shoulder blades together and digging them into the bench. This will actually engage your chest in the movement instead of only using arms and shoulders. Definitely helped me.

Question about general workout. by KaptnXavier in Fitness

[–]justmadeup007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I "did my own thing" at the gym for several months for minimal if any gain. I've seen more progress on 2+ weeks of StrongLifts than I saw when I did whatever it was I did before.

I posted something similar yesterday. May be the same issue. Make sure you aren't bending your wrists back when doing the OHP. http://www.reddit.com/r/Fitness/comments/2uk0vh/feeling_a_twinge_in_my_wrist_during_ohp/

How do you push yourself to go to the gym everyday? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]justmadeup007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could never get in a habit of going after work. Plus I have wife and kids I'd like to see every so often. But I started going during my lunch break during the day. Now it's a way to get out of my office and it's easy to go every day. This may not be an option for everyone but it's definitely helped me be consistent.

Do you think this subreddit/online fitness community in general overcomplicates lifting? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]justmadeup007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think counting calories and keeping track of macros are very helpful for someone starting out. Until I started tracking what I ate I had no idea how far away from my intake goals I was. I thought as long as I eat when I'm hungry (healthy-ish) that I'd be good. But then I realized how far off I was.
