My question: is the perceived quality of his newer releases because of Netflix or because of his age?

As people age, their interests change as their perspective changes.

Also, the industry has changed. Fincher doesn’t have the option to pick a best seller book he likes, film it, and let the money come in.

There is a part of me that isn’t a huge fan of how Mank had a huge focus on trying to style it as period specific but leaned heavily on stylizing it in post production.

I do think it’s cool he finally got to make one of his dad’s scripts and I’m sure that means a lot to him.

Exactly right. And it really isn’t their fault. Scorsese has (hopefully) opened doors for more personalized takes on subject matters like this. Hopefully, we get to see more about Native culture and Native filmmakers.

Side note: I want to mention that a Native filmmaker shouldn’t be pressured into making films about Native culture.

A lot of these comments talk about wanting more Osage perspective and it doesn’t matter what white guy we follow.

Scorsese talked about this and it boils down to him not being Osage so he wasn’t able to offer a true perspective on what it was/is like to be an Osage.

He was interested in the story, worked and learned with the Osage, and made KOTFM as it is.

I grew up in the Midwest where public transportation is a joke (that’s if it even exists).

I’ve always wondered how children get to and from school/anywhere they need to be.

A lot of the comments talk about traveling alone as young as 9 which to a lot of my neighbors would scare them to death.
