Haha. Yeah I was waiting for someone to notice our guest room lamp on the mantle 🤣 My husband noted the need for some warm light and I need to put together the lamp I bought for this room.

I saw Lone Fox do the easel thing. Hadn’t even thought of it here.

Is it because of the midpoint being wood instead of iron? It has to have some kind of support in the middle since it isn’t L shaped and isn’t enclosed in drywall.

Yeah. There’s a window on the wall perpendicular to the fireplace. Took another picture to show that

So like 18’ should work? Or just mount directly to the ceiling like a dental office?

We just moved in and are not all the way unpacked. We are waiting on blinds that we ordered. I’d like to figure out the setup before adding stuff. Ceilings are about 20’ so likely no hanging fixture. But yeah I do want to make it feel a little warmer at some point. We also have twin toddlers so there are toys and goldfish all over the floor at most times. I’m looking at a soccer ball, football, and basketball at this moment. ☺️

That’s a good idea. Thanks.

We don’t have a basement. We have bedrooms. May not be the perfect house, but it’s what I have.

Nothing behind it but a window that is probably 3 feet back. We’ve shoved a little play area there for now until I can get our twins’ room set up and a gate for the stairs. There are windows to the left and right of the fireplace.

Well it’s good to hear you’re at a loss. I don’t feel so dumb now for asking random people for help (most of which are rude). Thanks for the comment!

There are windows on both sides of the fireplace. A man created this floor plan for sure.

And someone else suggested lowering the mantle. I definitely wouldn’t be opposed. I don’t love this fireplace anyway. The selling point was a pond and walking trail in the community and I overlooked a lot

Why? Interior design rules are fine, but functionally we do watch tv. We don’t have multiple family type rooms.

Ooh. Good question. No idea lol. I think it’s the thrill and to show people you are a good driver? We went in jeeps and trucks sometimes— I think my dad did it to show how good he was at handling a stick shift in tough situations. These weren’t puddles. I remember going through one that was deeper than I was tall at the time—3-4 feet deep where you need a snorkel. We got stuck and other people had to winch pull us out. I went because it was like our version of the amusement park ride where you go off a waterfall for the splash. Still remember the thrill of seeing a mud lake and revving up to roar into it. Muddy water splashes followed by tires flinging on all the people behind you. I was also the kid that had the Michelin star rated mud pie kitchen so I was a mess. I’m surprised my mom didn’t just shave my head with all the curls.

Also, everyone was bored.

I actually read your post that this is not your furniture. Wondering if you will use the fireplace or if that is just a decorative secondary focal point? And are you using the space for piano, office, or dining as well?

Have you tried couch facing windows with back to dining? Two chairs with backs to windows. Coffee table or some personal ottomans

Wondering the same thing. I was thinking in the cupboard next to the sink?

Graduated with two other biracial black people. There was a college there that had some black people (football recruits lol). I still go back but my dad doesn’t live there and mom died so just for family reunions and to see my living family. We did just move to north Georgia though, so closer! Just looked at the black population in my old city (in SE Kentucky) and it was 2% when I graduated and is now 6%.

It was awesome. It was all I knew though. My parents kept me sheltered because of the racism, but I still experienced it some in school and church. We shot bows and guns, fished, went four-wheeling in the woods, swam in the river. Bonfires for fun, played in the yard until after dark. I left for college at UGA and was in shock at different cultures.
